How is creating an item or power from a 'recipe' that is made by the game's designers considered NEW powers? The video didn't do a very good job explaining how the user has any control over what is being created.

there are no new powersets or new powers avaliable, just enhancements. I belive the writer was mistaken or unfamiliar with the game.

There are new powers, in a way. You can make baseball bats, sedgehammers, and other little thing. Nothing major that upset the balance of the game. You can also make wings and boots, so it more then just making enhancements. If you had watch the video, you would already figured that out. It is something different then doing missions and Task Forces 90% of the time. Still rather play this then WoW.

I love this system, it almost made me want to take a long break from WoW and get back to my old level 37 defender. Had a blast over the free weekend, introducing friends that were new to the game and trying out my powers with some of the new invention enhancements.

For the record, I still play it. Aie, actually restarted it after issue 9, and I must say I found back why I love the game.(The community is loveable :p)
On the inventionsystem. You can actually craft new temporary powers, and new costume pieces. So it's not just enhancements as someone said.

Anyhow, I like it. Thought I'd just give my opinion quickly :)

God this game could have SO easily beaten WoW if it was done better.

I played the game till the level cap when it first came out (20 iirc) and it was really just so poorly constructed but the general superhero/customisation concept was SO good.

I just wish it could have been worked out better. I really would prefer to play CoH as a game than WoW...if they both had the same production standards and player base.

Oh well..back to my level 70 rogue on WoW.

@#8/cheesebanana:
"God this game could have SO easily beaten WoW if it was done better."

Couldn't the same be said of any MMO? If they were done better, they could beat other MMOs?

COH is so far the only MMO I ever hit the level cap, also a 36 month vet. it's not perfect but it's easily the best PvE group experience around. Teamwork and the synergy between archetypes gives you infinite group options. A good group is an amazing experience. The game is well suited for soloing.

Am I the only one that thought that this just looks like a basic crafting system, something most MMOs launch with?

Yea it more or less is a just a crafting system. But it has changed the game over what it had been for the past 3 years. It's opened up tons of new options as far as character development.

Crafting was never a major issue in the game before now. In truth without a crafting system gold farmers, kill stealers, and spammers have never been a problem because there's no profit in it. And besides how much crafting have you ever seen wolverine or superman do any crafting?

It's nice to have but no critically necessary.

@12: Yes, that's what it is. Something they talked about adding for a long time, and while pretty simple, some of the things you can make are kindda nice. Gives you more loot to pawn over while you play too. Always thought CoH needed more interesting loot.

Played after issue 9 came out (Cryptic had a free week if you had an old account, and I think most people missed it), thinking about going back, but i'm waiting to see if Vanguard is going to fix anything. :)

An added bonus to this crafting not mentioned in the video or comments are the addition of sets. Yes, set pieces are an old idea, but add a new dimension of fun to CoH. Sets range from 3-6 enhancements, and with each additional set enhancement piece inside the same power, it gives you small bonuses to your whole character, such as debt protection, regen rate, recharge rate, etc. Potentially, if you get all of your powers outfitted with sets, the aggregate bonus' you receive will really set you apart.

I still play but in an on again/off again manner. I've tried just about every major MMO since UO came out and this is the only one I've really stuck with over a long period of time. It's a grind fest just like every other one, but the setting and players are what makes it so worthwhile for me. Superheroics is vastly more appealing to me than yet another fantasy world and it seems that it attracts far less l33t teens.

So far the invention system seems fairly well done but I haven't had that much experience with it. I ran the invention tutorial and have made a few enhancements but nothing else yet. I'm interested in seeing what the costume inventions are like and the temp powers.

Cryptic needs to stop creating things nobody asked for and focus their resources and creativity on what's weak about their game..

I don't care one bit if I can build wings or not for as long as the ENTIRE GAME still consists of roaming through one of 3 static warehouse layouts at level five fighting Hellions to roaming through the EXACT SAME LOOKING/PLAYING warehouse at level 50 fighting Malta. It's sub-korean in it's grindyness and lack of creativity.

On top of that, where are player-colorable powers? Hell, where's some Electric blaster/electric melee sound effects that sound thunderous not pathetic?

Cryptic's never seeing another dime from me until they expand the core of their game and stop making big deals out of insanely minor, barely game-impacting chopped carrots. You can punch in the same 3 warehouses in a CAPE! oh it's a year later, you can punch in the same 3 warehouses with ROBOT WINGS!

You suck, Jack.
