Japanese hardware sales, May 7 - May 13: Hidden in Halo edition

After a group of modders dug into the Halo 3 Beta code and seemingly discovered some embedded weapons and vehicles intended for the game's September release, we immediately set out to confirm the information for ourselves. Is there really a flamethrower hidden in there? Just what exactly is this "Chopper" vehicle? Depressingly, our frantic scratching through the code yielded no answers, only several bizarre items and unexpected discoveries.

First item: This week's Japanese hardware sales chart. It's appearance in the code seems awfully contrived, but it's sure to be useful during intense fanboy debate!

Seventh item: Serious Cat. He seemed thoroughly... unamused when we pulled him out from under a nested If statement.

Eighth item: The ending of the next M. Night Shyamalan movie. Woah, the taxi driver was without a license all this time?!

"Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War" was released for the PSP this week, and it was the #1 selling game of the week (and the only Sony game to make it into the top 20), yet that didn't even drive PSP sales!

No we are truly the Nintendo Task Force. Nintendo doesn't need defending rather we need a counter-offensive force tasked with errrr... revolutionizing news agai... I mean not allied with us.

I'm surprised all the Game Boys increased sales. I guess that Wii and DS were redirected for SPM and Pokemon D/P. That still doesn't explain the drops for Sony's unless the summer seasons were characteristically slow times for games.

You know whats funny (and ironic)? There are less PS3-is-doooomed comments on this common board as compared to the same article on PS3fanboy (though you do get a lot of gloating Nin-fans)

Doesnt this prove that the Japanese are not about "I wanna buy only my country's stuff"? They are not keen on the expensive PS3 unless it gets more good games - evn if its Japanese.

In fact, I would say its the americans who are xenophobic - millions of them bought the 360 in its first year, despite the fact that it had zero exclusive games at that time and no backward compatibility

It proves nothing of the sort. Whether or not you believe the Japanese-buy-Japanese-goods theory, no one ever said they buy anything Japanese (aka the crappy stuff), just that they don't buy non-Japanese game systems.

Well, that's just plain wrong. The 360 had tons of exclusives - you certainly couldn't get Oblivion or any number of other later-ported-to-PS3 games on any other system at the time.

Wii sales dropped, I guess people are starting to realize you look stupid while playing minigames. Just as stupid as you look while playing Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution. I remember being at the Santa Monica Pier when DDR was new and some chicks were laughing at the guy that was stupid enough to waste his money and dignity on DDR. Same thing with Guitar Hero chicks think you look like a moron strutting along with a cheap little plastic guitar and making a fool of yourself at parties. Those guitars look even crappier than the toys poor children play with. The Wii is the new DDR, and Guitar Hero.

Oho~ I agree wholeheartedly. However, I think that is a very good thing. Personally, I have a blast playing DDR, Guitar Hero and the Wii. Really fun stuff, IMO.

By the way mate, not all of us decide which games to play by what makes us look cool, believe it or not. Yea, playing DDR makes you look like a moron, but I actually got my girlfriend to play it the other night and we had a great time :)

You show very obvious signs of low self esteem. I don't say this to be mean, but out of the fact that when you see girls laughing, the first thing you think is it must be because playing DDR is a bad thing and that it makes you deserve being laughed at.

Girls will laugh at guys who are doing something amusing, but this is not always a bad thing. Girls like a guy who can make them laugh. Girls also enjoy DDR, or wish they were good enough at it to be able to enjoy it.

And on top of that, the 90% girls who do enjoy DDR are freaking HOT.

Also, I can only assume you're being sarcastic about the Wii dropping 48% actually meaning anything bad, because everyone else dropped about 30%-40% as well. The only reason they had such major percentage change is because they utterly dominated in the prior week. Where they did roughly nine times the sales of the PS3, and that was after coming down 1200 units from the week before that.

I am not trying to start any wars so lets just leave this as a healthy thread....the wii fail nearly 50%

so is this because Nintendo couldn't keep up with demands...hard to find wiis...or something else?....hello?

threads like this one usually get comments up into the hundreds....especially when the ps3 is the only one to have a drop in sales, everyone have a million reasons why sony and the ps3 suck.....sooo..whats the deal with the wii?....I personal think it has something to do with hard to find wii consoles or Nintendo can't keep up with demand....

but the PS3 dosent exactly have the high ground when it comes to sales, so they have to stay hush hush until another trolling opportunity arise's, like a wii gameplay photo......they just hide and watch, ready to strike at an unsuspecting spiderman 3 trailer, or smash brothers photo

but dont let your guard down, at any time the can STRIKE, so always be ready with the wii's sales chart to put them at bay
