I've heard this before and never before have I said it, but the PSP's graphics are better than the Wii's. There, I said it. OK, frame rate and pixel count are worse than Wii's, but the models and environments look nice.

Between Castlevania, a couple Star Oceans, some Final Fantasies, and this game, it sucks that I'm going to have to get a PSP by the end of 2007.

....chalk that up to an early build. I just started using my psp again after allowing it to collect dust for a few months (I bought a ds in feb). I was re-amazed at how nice the graphics and sound are on that thing. I think The Warriors on PSP looks better than anything put on the Wii so far.

The parts involving the invading Persian army are clearly nothing but American propaganda designed to humiliate Iran.

Oh I do hope so. Oh please let their be a minigame where we force the enemies down to their birthday suit and force them to masturbate for our amusement...

I guess my question is why does this have to be put on a handheld when it's basically the exact same game as the console version (story aside)? Grand Theft Auto makes slightly more sense since it's a pick up and go game but with something as epic as this game, why not leave it on the console since it's basically the exact same gameplay and graphics as it's big brother version and who wants an epic game in short bouts?

Anyone else think they had a little bit of Rancor envy while making this game?

@Doug Kaplan

Maybe because they want to sell more PSPs?
"OMFG!!11!! GoW on PSP!!!!1 I'm gonna buy one just for it!!11" - Screams a God of War fan that doesn't have a PSP.

lol. If by "anything put on the Wii so far" you mean Happy Feet and Barnyard then I might agree. ;)

@Doug Kaplan
I share your confusion. I don't have a psp but if I found out I payed $40 for a psp game only to have the same game ported to the ps2, I would be pissed that I wasted $40. There is no part of me that doesn't prefer this game on the ps2. I hope it does get ported over.

Well, doug, why does the DS have to get RPGs or the PSP for that matter? Sometimes you want a console game to go. Daxter, Ratchet & Clank... both could have been done on the PS2 to a much larger audience. Siphon Filter: Dark Mirror as well. But in the end, if you keep all the epics on the consoles, what does that leave the handheld players?

Some people play handheld games for longer periods than 15 minute spurts, you know...

Doug Kaplan, do you feel laptops should be denied desktop software?

Thing is, the PSP is 16x9, portable (it's not tethered) and infinitely pause-able. You can play for a bit pause, unpause then play some more, so on and so forth. You can even do this while others watch the TV. It's really quite marvelous. You should give it a go.

and the part about killing Greek mythology gods are just humiliating the Greeks, right?

probably the dumbest comment of all time, because we all know the main character in this game is Uncle Sam sporting a jumper with American flags on it.

I think it all depends on what you think the general idea of handheld gaming is. To me it's gaming on the go and the laptop comparison isn't fair because laptops can replace desktops but the PSP can't replace the PS2 which basically means most people who have a PSP will also own a PS2 and why not own the superior console version with better controls, dual analog, especially when the graphics on the two are virtually identical.

Yes, I own a DS, but you won't see me buying a DS game that I basically own on the Wii/GameCube. I bought Trauma Center on the Wii, not the DS and Cooking Mama on the DS, not the Wii, I find it kind of dumb if console games get moved to handhelds but back to my original point, the very nature of portable gaming to me doesn't lend itself well to epic action games. RPG's in my mind work better than an action title like God of War.

Did I rant and possibly not make sense? Yes.

Doug, thanks for expounding upon your point of view. I don't think it's a given that most PSP users have a PS2. I don't, nor do I have a system that requires a TV&2analogs. I do however have many portable systems (GB,GBP,GBC,GBA,GBASP,DS,PSP).

Some of us actually want more out of our handhelds. I have a DS Lite but I rarely, if ever, play it because it doesn't have the kind of games I like to play. If I want to play mini and casual games I can do that on my cellphone. The PSP makes it easy to play epic games on the go. If you need to stop playing you just put it in sleep mode. When you're ready to play again, you start right back from where you left off. Even though there's room for improvement (controls, media functions, ergonomics) it's a great system and I enjoy having what is, essentially, a portable PS2.

@18 @Doug Kaplan
"why not own the superior console version"?

so what about games like the New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Super Mario 64 DS, Trauma Center, Cooking Mama (both of which you mentioned), Animal Crossing, Star Fox, Rayman DS, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, Yoshi's Island DS, Castlevania, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Animal Crossing, etc etc...

These games all have their console counterparts, but no one questions "why buy the DS version when you can get the superior GC/Wii version?" The fact is, there is a market for portable games, even though it may be a watered down version of the console version, and there are many reason for wanting it.

I mean, sure maybe laptops can replace desktops, but what about PDA's or smartphones? Those cannot replace desktops, but they do have watered down applications in comparison.
