After skirting the issue for months,
Nintendo recently dated the third game in the
Metroid Prime series for North America: August 20. Today five new images have been shoved out the door to keep the buzz alive. Content-wise, the shots are mostly ho-hum and don't show off anything radically new in the series. But the image above does raise a few questions, such as "What kind of hair gel does the purple lady use?" and "Have her arm muscles gone on vacation?". Let the rampant speculation ... begin!

The graphics in these screenshots look like gamecube caliber or worse.
perfectchaos @ May 22nd 2007 9:51AM
so far it looks like mp2, which is definitely not a bad thing considering that game was sexy
Konny @ May 22nd 2007 9:53AM
You know, a sign that a series is going to the sh!ts is when they start introducing non-sense, tertiary characters.. take a look at what happened to Sonic. Waggle controls wont save MP3.
Wii'ed Out @ May 22nd 2007 9:55AM
Finally maybe a game that will be worth my Wii.
Mep @ May 22nd 2007 9:59AM
Imo the graphics in these screenshots look ugly as hell. Yeah, yeah, graphics aren't everything, but seriously, did they need to remove it altogether? :S
mandark @ May 22nd 2007 10:06AM
What a surprise ! another crushing dissapointment for for the wee. It actually looks Worse than the game cube versions !
Why does nintendos joke of a console still sell like
crazy !? I just dont get it !
Its like the entire video game industry have been
transported to the Twilight zone !
samfish @ May 22nd 2007 10:00AM
Brilliant observation, Konny! Introducing new characters, probably villains, is going to kill the game! Can't win with the Nintendtrolls. Don't add new characters, a la Mario – it's stale. Add new characters, you're bogging it down with useless crap.
Sheesh.
Anyway, try as I might, I could never get into the Prime games. I just don't like FPS's.
...although I did enjoy them about as much as I liked Doom and Quake. That's something, coming from me, personally.
Lou D @ May 22nd 2007 10:01AM
This game looks great.
Finally, a real Wii game.
Now if I could only beat the MP boss and then finish MP2...
wallapuctus @ May 22nd 2007 2:26PM
I'm very disappointed in the graphics. It looks like they put zero effort into the engine. Seems like everything is under muddy water.
baby sea tuna @ May 22nd 2007 10:02AM
Cortana? Is that you?!
perfectchaos @ May 22nd 2007 10:03AM
@Wii'ed Out
What, Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, Wario Ware, Raving Rabbids, SSX Blur, The Godfather, and Trauma Center (not to mention everything else) weren't already worth it?
aparrish @ May 22nd 2007 10:02AM
Can anyone tell wtf is going on in these screenshots?!
Sir Josh @ May 22nd 2007 10:08AM
i know this has been brought up already but is online multiplayer confirmed?
perfectchaos @ May 22nd 2007 10:05AM
@Mep
If they did that you'd be staring at five blank screen shots, now wouldn't you
mmxzero @ May 22nd 2007 10:06AM
MP3 didnt needed saving in the first place.

Cheez-It wins.
Jonathan Tran @ May 22nd 2007 10:09AM
Yeah I will admit it's a little hard to tell WTF is going on in the pictures. As long as the controls are tight, I'll get this on release...
Jack of No Trades @ May 22nd 2007 10:12AM
This games looks cool. Can't wait to buy it!
Rahnyc4 @ May 22nd 2007 10:12AM
i dont know about you nerds, but im going to wait till i see a trailor before i judge the graphics. most SD games dont really look good in pics, so im going to wait till i see the trailer, instead of being quick and judging the game from the pics. us smart people do that, you know ;)
Einhanderkiller @ May 22nd 2007 10:13AM
Er, wtf?

Very good samfish. And I thought "I" was the only master of the strawman argument.

Matt B @ May 22nd 2007 10:14AM
I have no idea what is going on in some of those pictures.
David @ May 22nd 2007 10:14AM
Actually Konny is right. Super Mario Sunshine added new annyoing charaters to the game and it sucked.
megaStryke @ May 22nd 2007 10:14AM
@Jack
Have you been emasculated? My God man!
ScreamingSkull @ May 22nd 2007 10:15AM
Sheesh, I had serious hopes for this to be my "I'm getting a Wii to play this" and these really disappoint me. I know it wasn't going to come out looking like Crysis or whatever but this is a gamecube 1.o game, not a 2.o game.
Tim @ May 22nd 2007 10:16AM
Why does this game look like throw up.
Jonathan Tran @ May 22nd 2007 10:19AM
The game will look better once they figure out how to implement dynamic lighting through the DTM (Duct Tape Matrix)
arrrgh @ May 22nd 2007 10:19AM
....and the haters come out again to try to prove to the masses that they were wrong in buying the Wii...just go back to your caves
Jack of No Trades @ May 22nd 2007 10:20AM
Mega
If I have fun I will get banned. So im just going with the flow. It sucks ass.
redneckvampire @ May 22nd 2007 10:22AM
"Why does nintendos joke of a console still sell like
crazy !?"
Just to piss off Sony & MS trolls.
On topic, I'll have to wait for some reviews before picking this one up. I loved Prime, Prime 2 not so much.
megaStryke @ May 22nd 2007 10:23AM
Let's ignore the fact that these are scaled-down, extremely low-res jpegs and home in on the fact this game has shitty graphics. We can do that, OR we can think back to last year's playable build at E3 in which the game was described as rivaling Halo 2. Now, add a few months of development time and what do you get?
These must be the same people that complained about the Halo 3 beta.
Mep @ May 22nd 2007 10:24AM
@perfectchaos
It's always nice to exaggerate a bit :P
Erwos @ May 22nd 2007 10:34AM
I hate to troll, but the aliasing is just terrible in those shots. I got a visceral nauseous feeling just looking at them. Maybe gameplay will be great, but that doesn't excuse the graphical shortcomings, either.
JodyAnthony @ May 22nd 2007 10:26AM
generic positive comment
baby sea tuna @ May 22nd 2007 10:27AM

...so if someone actually bought a Wii (like I did) and is genuinely dissappointed with it (like I am,) then that makes us haters and fanbots and automatically invalidates our opinions? Right...
PS. MP3'll probably get better by the time it comes out, but these screenshots look like coathanger abortions.
Slaziman @ May 22nd 2007 10:28AM
The aliasing looks horrible, but it's not the game, that kind of aliasing isn't normal. Not even MP1 had that. Low-res awkwardly scaled JPG's ftw
Jeff @ May 22nd 2007 10:30AM
Jaggies heaven.
Jack of No Trades @ May 22nd 2007 10:31AM
Hey Jody
We should fill the threads all with generic positive comments.
perfectchaos @ May 22nd 2007 10:31AM
@megastryke
for a 360 game the graphics in the halo 3 beta weren't that impressive and they aren't likely to that much better (if at all) before release either so...and that's not judging by small, shitty screen shots either.
here, on the other hand, we have a handful of screen that show off the more mundane areas that, of course, nobody is going to crap their pants over. we all know there have been other places show in screen shots that do a better job of conveying how good the game looks.
as a side note, more importantly this game should be more of a showcase for wii fps controls than one for the graphics.
Jack of No Trades @ May 22nd 2007 10:33AM
I love how the graphics look. Im so excited!
I love how the gameplay looks! Will be nice on the Wii!

Hey, if I can't troll then you can't troll buddy. Only posistive Nintendo comments or get struck down by the all powerful C. Grant.
aC @ May 22nd 2007 10:37AM
Hmm... I've always been a Wii supporter, had one since release (although all my recent PT has gone to my 360).
I think there is a lot of fun in that little system, and I definitely don't regret buying it, HOWEVER, this is REALLY looking dated.
I don't mind if most games are cartoony Mii-ish graphics, so long as they don't strive for nice visuals and come up short.
After staring at pictures of Crysis and UE3 engine shots recently, it just makes this look... old. And yes a Wii shouldn't be compared to a top of the line PC, but sometimes it's hard to separate those things.
However if the game is immensely fun, none of this even matters, and I hope that's true. But I was never a big Metroid fan to begin with (outside of Super Metroid, and the one for the original gameboy, both of which I LOVED!)
antV @ May 22nd 2007 10:38AM
whoa, I'm hoping that its just the screen captures that make this look bad. these screens dont even look as good as the first metroid prime... is it gamecube 1.5 or gamecube 0.5 ? I seriously expected a little better from retro, if they cant even impress within the wii's limitations, then I really don't know what else to say.
Striderhayasa @ May 22nd 2007 10:37AM
these shots are ass. I love the Prime series but to be fair, screen shots have never done Prime justice. Wake me when we get some new footage and then we'll talk.
DarthDavid @ May 22nd 2007 10:38AM
Not bad....the videos at the show were better. Now I have to go back and finish Prime 2...I'm sure the final product will be amazing, this is the first true "made for Wii" game its gotta shine!
JodyAnthony @ May 22nd 2007 10:39AM
100 jack of no tradeses can't be wrong, this game will be fun (and looks great)
Alex @ May 22nd 2007 10:40AM
I'm... really not looking forward to this game very much at all, and it's only made worse by the fact that they seem to be running with Echoes' aesthetic.
Never before have I been at such a loss to explain why a seemingly identical sequel was so much worse than the game that preceded it, I'll say that much.
The Wii really is in kind of an odd state at the moment. So far the games that I've enjoyed the most - Kororinpa, Warioware, Wii Sports - have been the ones that seem to offer the least "value;" I haven't been too enthused paying full price for any of them. Meanwhile, the big-budget thirty-hour titles that nobody really questions the $50 worth of - obviously, Twilight Princess and Super Paper - have bored me to tears. In part, I guess this is to be expected from such a novel control mechanism, but there's no doubt that a good bit of it also stems from Nintendo's franchises being weighed down by decades of self-reference that they wouldn't dare leave out.
I'm still maintaining hope for Galaxy and Brawl, at least, and truth be told 'hope' is something of an understatement.
perfectchaos @ May 22nd 2007 10:40AM
is it just me or are jacks sarcastic pro wii comments even better than his trolling
