The Ps3 is an amazing piece of hardware, can't figure why its not on the list.

I don't care what kind of fanboy you are. How could they nominate the ripoff 360 Elite for an award? Surely there's another deserving tech product that would have been a better pick.

They recommend the Elite because quite frankly they are retarded.. and it's a pretty good indicator that PC World is a publication that can be ignored.

Spitkicker provides a great example of blind hatred for Sony. I never even mentioned the PS3. I also didn't say MS copied another system. I was referring to the fact that after so many people buy their $400 system, then they want you to upgrade w/o much to offer for it. That added to the fact that they want to charge $180 for a 120GB HD if you don't buy the Elite.

Even loyal 360 fanboys don't like the Elite. So, as I said before, surely there's another deserving TECH PRODUCT that would have been a better pick.

Yeah, its an excelent piece of hardware... PS3 can do
almost everything, play Blu Ray movies, surf the net, play music and video, it have WiFi, memory card readers, hard drive... and also can do medical research and research for proteins... you can even use the PS3 as a grill !... its capable of anything, except play games

The one I can agree with most is the Core 2 Duo; those things flat-out pwn (I have one :P )


And what I disagree most is the Xbox360 Elite..WTF? I'm sure there was something else out there better than that...most people called it a ripoff, and lacked all of the upgrades that people WANTED to see in it..

The Bullet Blender is an amazing piece of hardware and should have topped this list easily. That silly old PS3 can't make chicken salad in three seconds! Nor can it make drinks, smoothies, chop vegetables, do a nice cheese dip, and sit at the right hand of God like the Bullet Blender! All bow down to cooking made super easy!

The list goes to 100, but the PS3 still isn't there, nor is the Cell processor, or Blu-ray.

Even as someone who favors the 360, that's just not right...

Wow Wii is #3 that is pretty cool. Glad I got mine at launch.

In other words 1080p support and 120GB hard drive are great extras, but we like it because it has a great online service, great games, and downloadable videos (aka all the stuff you can do a standard 360) that makes the console great.
So while putting the Elite on the list leads you to believe that HDMI and a big hard drive puts it above the compitition, what they are actually saying is the 360 is still one of the best new techs on the market.

It's not really a media conspiracy as you guys keep touting. It's called bias. It's not popular to think of the last generations' huge success and post their recent work. Same thing happened with the PS2. OMGZ the dreamcast has more features with vmu and innovative ways of playing. It has more games out! The games look better. Plenty of third party support. Suddenly some PS2's sell a bit, and third party developers L2P (learn2program) and stop bitching about how much harder it is to program for than the previous generation. Then the PS2 takes off.

Not saying that has to happen this time, but I think one of the reasons the press lashes out at Sony is because Sony has threatened the blogs with libel in the past when they post damaging rumors as fact. The other reason I can think of, no one likes "the man". Every artistic type blames whoevers in charge for government issues. And every editorialist for a game market blames the stagnation of games (have yet to see stagnation start occuring kthx) on some head honcho company inadvertantly curbing competition.

Fact is the PS3 IS loaded with features. Blu-ray, Folding@Home, bluetooth, loads of usb ports, both wi-fi and ethernet connections built in, linux support. The fact that they didn't mention this hardware and they mentioned the other 2 shows a direct and obvious bias. I don't see how the 360's Live is so innovative, charging for a friend list front end that barely costs Microsoft a dollar a year to manage. A friend list that is free on the PS3, chat that is free, voice chat that is free, developer freedom from fixed price points, etc...

Seriously what has the PS3 done that was bad for the game market. What has it NOT done to be in a top gadget list? It has motion sensing, the 360 does not. It has Folding@Home, the 360 does not. It has full online playability for free, the 360 DOES NOT.

It's still just a couple people's opinions. What the hell does PC world know or care about consoles anyway? I have rarely seen it cover a non PC title. That is why it is called PC f'n WORLD.
PC WORLD is a publication, it doesn't mean it is jehova over all things electronic.

I would be lieing if I said the PS3 wasnt an impressive piece of hardware. However, you have to look into the economic side of it.

You can shove as many features into a unit untill its the size of a small car.

But the fact of the matter is, if its to expensive, people wont buy it. And when you have a price tag as high as it is, and a PR that has been anything but beneficial. It shouldnt be a wonder why the PS3 isnt on the list.

Its PC World, while the DS & Wii are understandable (and the 360 Premium), but no self-respecting gamer will waste their time on the Elite.

The question is not whether the PS3 is expesnive or not - it is, and so is the 360. The question is - which is the better, more exciting piece of hardware, the copycat 360 elite (where are all the xbots who keep whining about "Sony copied this etc etc" which has the same buggy, defective 360 design that showcases MS' lack of engineering skills (tray loader? seaparate power brick?) or the superbly built, sexy PS3 that just doesnt break down.

As much as I love my PS3 im not going to complain that it's not on the list. It's got some work to do in the games and features department before it really deserves praise, but the Elite? Come on.... I almost hear as much griping about it as I do people praising the Wii. Which, if you haven't noticed is quite often.

Either way this is one of the many reasons I quit reading the magazine long ago. I don't make a sandwich even if the bread is stale.

The PS3 is a great piece of hardware. But, when you are the successor to the Playstation 2, the game king, and you come out with a fracking MS console kicking your ass in the games department it looks like hell. It also didn't help that they made their graphics look like they would totally own, then came out and they weren't as good as second gen 360 games.

Remember how many more good Playstation games there were than Xbox or GC last gen? Who would have thought that the 360 would be getting C&C, Forza2, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Two Worlds, and Halo3 during the same time period in which the PS3 got an Xbox game remake (Gaiden) and Lair. I know it is just the PS3's first summer, but it is the f'ing PS3. You would expect 2:1 high profile console exclusives in its favor. What is going on!? The PS3's summer would have actually been impressive, but so many games are being pushed back.

I know $500-600 is a lot but I am still a bit shocked that the PS3 isn't doing better. I am waiting for the games to pick mine up and the games are waiting for me to pick one up. Where's the 1st party support to get this party started?

I guess the point I totally got away from is that the PS3 is a fine piece of hardware, but since it is falling short of expectations thus far as a gaming platform, it is hard to call it the best. I hate to sound like a broken record but adding blu-ray gave MS a 1 year head start and added $100 to the system. It doesn't seem to be worth it right now. And the rest of the PS3 is holding the cell's power back, basically handicapping it. You can fold like a mofo but you can't output any better looking game. Super.

I don't think I am ready to believe the whole "Sony picked on me when I was little, it's payback time" whacko explanation either. Maybe they thought the wii and elite were either more successful, proven, or worthy than the ps3 and they didn't want to put another gaming system on the list. You may believe the ps3 has every reason to be on the list but don't pretend for a second somebody couldn't make a logical argument of why it shouldn't.

If everyone here made their list of "top 20 products of the year", how many do you think would be exactly the same hmmm? "Hey, you didn't put product X on your list. You must hold a grudge against company A."

Isn't it time to stop posting news about the PS3? It's rather clear that it does not really sell and it probably won't in the near future.
I think it's rather logical that we have the news adapted to the amount of potential readers. If it because a major succes all of the sudden you can get back on the ps3 track but for now we should give it a rest.
It's like having PSP news day after day after day..., it's not logical and it will be another two years before the PS3 even catches up with the PSP...

I just bought a Playstation 3 and it owns! Oblivion and Resistance.. so much more to come soon. Before I was really really liking the xbox 360 but then I saw how crappy it is.. if I had it for free, I would still not be satisfied with it and maybe sell it to buy a 1080P monitor for my PS3 lol.

lame, the PS3 is a great console. While the 360 is great as well, the elite is little more than an upgrade to a year old console. However they should all of been on the list, imo.

Those who disparage the 360 being on this list obv. havent used one. The live experience is quite simply best in class. Movies, music and loads of games with loads of other people online to play with. It may not be a great piece of hardware (actually i think it is, but thats just me), but the tech rocks... The PS experience just doesnt even come close. I did buy a ps3 and kept it for a week... but resistance only took 4 days to beat and i couldnt find any english speaking players online to play with (actually i dont know if what they spoke.. as i suspect most didnt even have a headset!). So it went straightback.

I have seven games on the console, only one I don't really have an intention of completing (AC4) but that's more because of the excessively short missions and the fact that the garage and shop should be seperate. Granted, I have 16 on 360 but still.

1) raised the cost of entry to the current gen. (Also 60$ games, but MS is probably more culpable for that one, and they are just following.)

For the record I call shenanigans. Everything else on the list is software, computer versions, or display systems (ie PC things). Is it because you can go online with them? I don't think consoles belong on that list.

I guess it comes down to the criteria for the list. As hardware, the ps3 is impressive. As an overall package, it's impressive. As a gaming console, it's still waiting to launch.

Alright, I was always a Sony guy for the most part. I've always had multiple systems since the snes/genesis days, owning ps1/n64, ps2/gc/xbox, but by far, the vast majority of my games were for my Sony consoles, because that's where the best games were and the consoles were competitively priced. And therin lies my point and what I feel is why this generation will be different in regards to Sony domination. There is absolutely no way I can rationalize purchasing a PS3 when you can have a 360 AND a Wii for 50 bucks more. Don't get me wront, the PS3's an impressive piece of hardware, but it's about GAMES. Blu-Ray is nice and all, if you A) have an HD TV (not everyon does, so moot point for many), and B) you don't mind wearing out your motor and/or laser playing movies on your game console. How soon we forget all those people who's PS2's died from using it as their primary DVD player. Sony also lost most of their exclusives, save for a few decent first party games, but the 360 has at least pulled even, if not ahead, in exclusive titles. And while on paper the PS3 is a bit more powerful, anyone who knows or researches anything on programming for each system knows that you'll be hard pressed for a game to look better on the PS3 because its so much harder (and therefore more expensive) to program for. Therefore, the majority of the time you'll be getting 360 ports on your PS3. And not forgetting the Wii, anyone who's tried one, especially with some friends over, knows they're worth every bit of the meager $250 the cost. The controls offer a different and in most cases very fun experience, and while I'm by no means a Mario/Pokemon/many other Nintendo property fans, many first party games from them DO rock in spite of being a good bit less "next gen" looking. Twilight Princess is phenomenal, and I expect Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart Wii and others to be every bit the quality exclusives for the Wii as anything Sony could/will offer.
Bottom line, Sony got arrogant and complacent, counted too much on fanboy loyalty and placed too much importance on cramming their Blu-Ray format down our throats, and it's biting them in the arse. PS3 the same price and release date as the 360? I'd likely have a very different opinion. But things having gone the way they have, anyone who tries to argue a PS3 at $600 is a better value than a "Wii60" at $650 is nothing less than a delusional fanboy.
