After a day of wearing out our F5 key, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl webpage has finally made its promised update. Unfortunately, we have yet to find any huge megaton announcements. In fact, some of the content is a little too non-megaton-- like an explanation of the (unchanged) basic rules of Smash Bros.
There is neat stuff to be found, though, most obviously in the form of a few screenshots that, while they still don't show any new or new-to-Brawl characters, do show off a day/night cycle. Also, the list of composers contributing to the game is massive-- a total who's-who of Japanese game music. Some of the composers, we're sure, are only credited for having created the music from Smash characters' original games. But Jun Fukuda and Masafumi Takada from Grasshopper Manufacture are on the list, and that is really exciting.
The website promises updates every weekday, so don't let the somewhat underwhelming first day put you off. Keep checking the site for the inevitable character announcements and control scheme explanations!
[Thanks, Tigeron Starfire!]

Here's my guesses on the calendar:
Judging by Kojima's comments, they probably got the majority of the gameplay and engine finished in March
They've been spending April putting in all of the content (models, music, etc.)
May through June will be refining the codebase
July will probably be when they finish up the missions, adventure mode, trophies, etc., as well as the online code.
August will be extensive stess-testing (read as weekend-long Smash parties in the HAL offices) to stamp out the bugs, and go into production in late August
September will see the JPN release, and the US release will be sometime between late September and December 11

Uh... guys...
Doesn't anybody of you feel weird to find, on the site, a "how to play" section with an icon of what no one would miss but being a Wiimote?
Is it *gulp* going to be played with the wiimote??

@2 nullset:
In some Famitsu scans a while back, there was a small graphic to the left showing how to operate Link's sword in Brawl with the Wiimote. I'm taking that intelligence as blatant confirmation that we're going to be Smashing with the Wiimote. However, I remember a quote earlier saying "Don't throw out your 'Cube controllers just yet", implying there will be a "classic:" option

I had the same reaction nullset. My prediction? Support for the traditional gamecube setup as well as a new, optional control scheme with the wii remote-nunchuck combo. If they were to outright scrap GCN control support, though, I would cry. Seriously.
Besides. The photos show mario doing Up-tilts, and we know that the traditional move-sets are in the game. You just have to expect multiple schemes.
Other than that, the site looks nice and it is my new homepage. Anybody know a link to download the menu music posted? Also, do any of the composers lead you to speculate about new character additions?

So is the previously unknown developer, referred to be Sakurai only as "The Studio" really HAL after all? It does say "HAL Laboratory" in the copyright statement at the bottom of every page.

Note that the front page promises daily updates!
And yes, that is a surprisingly exciting list of musicians, from enough varied game series that one cannot help but fantasize about the character roster. We have people from killer7, Grandia, Ape Escape, Devil May Cry, Wild Arms, Mother 3, Golden Sun, NiGHTS, Chrono Trigger, Meteos, and Kingdom Hearts working on this! Yeah, it is unlikely that there will be characters from all, or even most, of those games in this, but... it is fun to fantasize about, isn't it? (I don't know about you, but I think it would be endless fun to beat the crap out of Dante from DMC with just about any other game character that exists.)

Just the list of composers made my day. Of course I want a release date, more confirmed characters, and maybe some videos, but I'm getting really excited with Brawl [Nintendo knows to do this] and surely the Menu 1 remake is great!
