Steve, by that argument, this game costs 620 dollars.

Also, the SIXAXIS reportedly cannot handle spin, so this game instantly fails. What's the point of accurate motion-control bowling if you can't add spin with rotation in your wrist?

And finally, holding that controller sideways has got to be a pain.

Huh, why does this sound familiar? Oh I know! They said something similar back when the PS3's motion sensing controller was revealed.

Ummm... no. That's not what his argument means at all. This games isn't packaged with the system. The cost of Wii Sports is factored into the cost of the system. It should also be noted that Wii Sports is sold separately in Japan.

"Wii Sports Bowling allowed me to break 100 in real bowling for the first time in my life!"

Wow... just wow. I don't bowl, at all. And I gotta hit the wombly water pretty hard before I drop under 120.

@David

Your arguement has already been defeated though. Because, not only has Xavix already been on the market since August 2004, but it actually has an even more intuitive controller for bowling. We could even go into PlayTV arguements while we're at it. We could, but why would we want to.

Look, I know what you're trying to say. The person who delivers compelling *snicker* software first for said innovation gathers all the credit. And you're right. After all, Game.com and PDAs have had touchscreen style games for years before the Nintendo DS was even announced. Hell, Metroid Primes control scheme can be seen on Quake for PDAs. But Nintendo was the first one to deliver a Mario 64 port with this technology so for the last at the party, goes the spoils. I know this can be hard for you but follow along.

Sony introduces The Walkman worldwide, roughly 4 months after a german engineer introduces a similar device in germany. Sony had no clue about this. Suddenly, Sony found themselves in court, lost the lawsuit, and had to pay a shitton of cash to this man because "he was first." So why does this same principle suddenly disappear once it comes to Nintendo?

Look, I like my Wii. But I have no doubt in my mind that Konami's Mo-Cap Boxing and Fighting Mania
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Mania
played more than a little role in the inspiration of WiiBoxing. I wish I could remember the name but I do recall another boxing game around the time of CyberSled which was a dual monitor setup with Wii style views and you gripped handles and controlled just like Wii Boxing.

Everything has it's roots. Nothing is original. Doesn't matter if the roots weren't "entertaining enough" for you or not, they were still the roots. This is how Ralpha Baer managed to take down Nolan Bushnell after Bushnell stole and built his empire from Baer's Brown Box.

Bushnell's defense? "Ralph is a good guy. He just doesn't know how to make his stuff fun. So he has all this technical know how, just lacks the ability to market it." Hear that, kids? Bushnell's "making things fun" equated to making Ping Pong from the brown box into a standup arcade machine and labeling it Pong. That's the kind of arguement you're standing with, David.

O Rly? Do you recall those two weeks before E3 2006?"

Look you two retards, that's ONE developer's experience, and doesn't preclude others from knowing about it.

Face it, SIXAXIS was NOT thrown together in the last minute like Nintendo fantards want to beleive

Why? Because Sony is ripping off one of the minigames that is on their pack-in title? So what? The lineup of available titles for the system still sucks.

But since that ONE developer was the one making the showpiece for sixaxis at E3, I don't think they would have tapped them for the job if they were significantly behind other developers in implementation.

It's much more likely that the sixaxis really *was* unknown to everyone until the last minute. Not certain. But likely.

Yes, unless you are being sarcastic. Yes, you can.
the Weemote is not a true motion controller.
It does not know where it is in a 3-D space. Basically it has accelerometers in it that are very sensitive. It only knows that it is moving, it does not know in what direction other than a very general one. It can point at the screen and the game depending on the developer kinda knows what the Weemote is doing by an infrared signal.

This just in....Nintendo copied the infrared remote sensor....oh no.

In my opinion, the Weemote is just a gimmick, and in a year or 2 years at most...most real gamers will see it as such.
The Wee will be relegated as the party machine for casual gamers.

Meanwhile on the PS3 and somewhat on the 360, we will be immersed in bigger and more believable complex game worlds.

So, by making a bowling title, we are suddenly allowed to claim that any other game which features bowling is copying off of the first title? Shut the fuck up, Sony.

so to put 50's comment more acurately, wouldnt that mean that bluray copy of 'Taladega Nights' is 620 and comes with a free PS3?

I honestly don't care about what's going on here with either group. I just want good games, who cares who did what first!

Would one of the geniuses from this comments section like to remind me when exactly it was that Nintendo invented the sport of bowling? Or do Nintendo just take ownership of everything they put in a game?

I've lost count of the times I've been bowling, and I had to use my arms and everything, just like in the game! I'd better turn myself into the cops for being the filthy thief that I am.

@52:

Steve suggested that Wii Sports is not free because to get it in America, you have to buy the console. There is no Wii Bowling on PS3, 360, PC, etc.

I suggested that by the same argument, this ten dollar game is 600 dollars more because in order to play it, you have to have a PS3. There is no ... whatever the heck this is... for Wii, 360, PC, etc.

I don't see any logical fallacies in my argument, do you?

Squeek:

Your grasp of logic is underwhelming.

Steve was saying since the "free" game is bundled in with the cost of the system, you're effectively buying the game. (In Japan, the system, sans Wii Sports is about $50 cheaper.)

That does not apply to this PS3 game you have to pay for, because it is not a forced purchase. You are comparing apples to hardcore sex.

Who was arguing about sales? Either way, they buy a lot of crap over there I would never buy (dating sims, horse racing, etc...). Take that as you will. I mean, Wii Sports is no $50 game. It's more like an $10 XBLA game. And Wii Play blows, but at least it comes with a Wiimote, so the game itself really is about $10.

I would have paid $50 for Wii Sports. It is by far the most played game in my library, and I think a fair number of Wii owners would say the same or close to it. It's certainly enough play experience for the money.

Now here's my question:

PS3 - $600
Game - $10
1080p HDTV - $1000+

How many lawsuits are going to be attempted when people start throwing their Sixaxis through their TV? I certainly don't see any wrist straps on those things.

Ahhh, I love the point we're at where having to buy a $250 console to play a game still qualifies it as "free". Of course, that is still cheaper than the $610 game... :-)

Wii Sports is a demo, simple as that. The content that Sony is offering is obviously a game that, I'm sure anyone could admit just from looking at it and reading the gaming news, is a lot more in-depth than Wii Bowling. Sheesh they have sold bowling video games before, and just because of timing and a mildly similar control scheme, they are accused of copycatting.

You should give it a rest. If I cared to know how 'innovative' Xavix was I'd buy it. But, you know it [Xavix] was marketed and sold as a toy whereas the innovation of WiiSports is that it's designed from the aesthetics to the gameplay interface to the marketing to attract all kinds of people.

They make Pac-man and Xevious for Plug-and-Play too! I don't no stinkin' Virtual Console!
