Today's newest game video: Assassin's Creed trailer
The Ubidays event that Ubisoft has Ubigoing on right now has yielded a new trailer for Assassin's Creed that tickles our "over the top" meter. Slow-motion, flying doves, spraying blood, and old school ass-kicking ... in a hack and slash swordfighting game?
That's right. No hints here of the possible time-travel aspect that's been rumored to be in this game, but there's a lot of other stuff to look at. The musical score sort ain't bad either. I'd almost swear that Assassin's Creed: The Movie was due out this weekend.

this game is why i plan on buying a 360..
Heliophage @ May 23rd 2007 12:09AM
The embargo on this trailer lasts until tomorrow morning. Oh well XD
That was pretty.
It's not time traveling so much as it is 'reading' the past through subtle imprints on DNA in the future. Almost as if the story plays in front of you via cutscene, and you actually play a flashback for most of the game.
kingofwale @ May 23rd 2007 12:11AM
When did this game become an xbox360 exclusive, Kevin Kelly?
Heliophage @ May 23rd 2007 12:14AM
Yeah... this is definitely a PS3 game, too.
To be fair, it was 360 first, went under the radar, became PS3 'exclusive,' and then was finally admitted to being multiplatform. I can understand a little confusion.
Even so, yeah, it's a PS3 game too.
Kevin Kelly @ May 23rd 2007 12:15AM
Did I say it wasn't?
Jonah Falcon @ May 23rd 2007 12:15AM
"No hints here of the possible time-travel aspect that's been rumored to be in this game,"
Except for the titles that pop on like medical digital numbers. Be observant, sheesh!
Jade R @ May 23rd 2007 12:17AM
*Yawn*
kingofwale @ May 23rd 2007 12:19AM
>5. Did I say it wasn't?
your tag line said "Microsoft Xbox 360" only, which would explain the first comment.
now, shouldn't this also be PS3 tagged? as well as PC tagged?
Kevin Kelly @ May 23rd 2007 12:20AM
Jonah, give me a freaking break. If you think those onscreen credits are indicative of time-travel, then what you're saying is that EVERY game has to have titles pertinent to the era they're set in. Ridiculous. Be logical, sheesh.
Heliophage @ May 23rd 2007 12:20AM
It's filed under the 360 and not the PS3, it seems. That was his point.
Heliophage @ May 23rd 2007 12:21AM
Nevermind, he already clarified.
sheppy @ May 23rd 2007 12:22AM
"Did I say it wasn't?"
You're missing the Playstation 3 link taggage at the top and lesser folk like kingofwales look for this stuff when complaining.
Gotta say, though. Platforming bits look interesting but I fear for the combat. Why? Prince Of Persia. First few times you fight, you're like "yeah, this is awesome." By the time you face the former king (about 25% done with the game), you're sooo damn sick of combat you wish the title was purely the magic of platforming puzzles.
The combat in the trailer looks sick, but I could see it becoming a bad thing if overdone.
Kevin Kelly @ May 23rd 2007 12:22AM
#8 - whoops, you're right ... I missed a couple of tags. Fixed, corrected, unflubbed, and I sooooo wanted to add a Wii tag on there. :D
Zach @ May 23rd 2007 12:22AM
So does anyone know who the group is that did the song?
kingofwale @ May 23rd 2007 12:26AM
>I sooooo wanted to add a Wii tag on there. :D
nah, it would've been Prince of Persia on Wii all over again. ;)
btw, just so we are on the topic, I believe this game is ALSO coming to PC (according to Wiki, which I know isn't the most reliable). I hope Jman there isn't rushing out of the door to get his xbox right now. lol
Imadogg99 @ May 23rd 2007 12:34AM
Wow. This refreshes my memory as to why I am eagerly anticipating the release of this game
waf @ May 23rd 2007 12:36AM
Yup, this is the game that is finally going to get me to pony up for a 360.
Varli @ May 23rd 2007 12:38AM
Nice video. One thing thats been bothering me, though. What is that song? Anybody know?
eldee @ May 23rd 2007 12:39AM
great trailer.. although I would've liked to see more actual gameplay footage and not so much fluff.
mccomber @ May 23rd 2007 12:39AM
That song is Lonely Soul, by UNKLE, from the Psyence Fiction album. A 5 star tracks for sure, fits the trailer really nicely.
Mike @ May 23rd 2007 12:41AM
I'm very excited for this game.
console_fan @ May 23rd 2007 12:43AM
This game looks amazing! Although I am a bit worried if it does not have time-travelling ability [aka a do-over] that was present in the Prince of Persia games.
kingofwale @ May 23rd 2007 12:44AM
UNKLE - LONELY SOUL
very good song. trailer looks good, not great, definitely a game worth checking out, but buying a console base on a trailer? OH COME ON. at least save it for an AAA game like Halo or Gears for war.
Jebus Crust @ May 23rd 2007 12:47AM
Well looky what we have here...a game that makes the PS3 and 360 look like a much better next-gen system than the Wee.
It is only gonna get worse from here Weeboys...you get MP3 Craprution and the PS3 and 360 get....well, you have seen it, have you not?
Remember $250 for a MOTION that does not even know where it is in 3D space controller.
Haa hah (think Nelson from that show that used to be funny)
Varli @ May 23rd 2007 12:48AM
>That song is Lonely Soul, by UNKLE, from the Psyence Fiction album. A 5 star tracks for sure, fits the trailer really nicely.
Ah ok. Thanks mccomber.
Vidikron @ May 23rd 2007 12:58AM
Due to the song I just kept thinking about The Beach while trying to watch the trailer.
3cubedminus3squared @ May 23rd 2007 1:20AM
I want this game to come out already. I want this more than GTa4.
EihBeir @ May 23rd 2007 1:36AM
You heard it here first, folks. Assassin's Creed: The Movie due out this weekend!
mflynn00 @ May 23rd 2007 1:42AM
am i the only one that thinks they were trying to channel some mad world - gears of war with that trailer?
the vast majority of gamers. @ May 23rd 2007 1:47AM
Yup, I'm definitely getting an Xbox 360 when this game comes out...
...oh, I see it's also coming for out for PS3, well isn't that interesting...
Let me repeat: I'M DEFINITELY GETTING AN XBOX 360 WHEN THIS GAME COMES OUT!
Einhanderkiller @ May 23rd 2007 2:26AM
The animation seems a little wonky in spots.
accidental @ May 23rd 2007 2:33AM
That was one of the best trailers I've seen in a while. Either they should be epic, or like a film trailer, or both.
ill trooper @ May 23rd 2007 2:35AM
Good to hear that UNKLE/Richard Ashcroft track in there, fits well... New UNKLE album on the way I heard? No Shadow for several years so I don't really check for the UNKLE records like I used to...
As for the game: I think the motion capture on the character looks amazing, and much of it looks to be the in-game engine (judging by some of the awkward transitional animation from crouching to standing or turning; I doubt anyone making a pre-rendered scene would leave the sort of herky-jerkiness you see at the start of his last leap). This is the first time this game has ever intrigued me but that looks good and physical.
I like climbing part with the dust! Nice touch. I hope CRACKDOWN hasn't ruined "moderately realistic roof-climbing"in another game for me.
Roflgoat @ May 23rd 2007 2:43AM
@24
I don't have a "Wee," but I don't know what the crap you're talking about.
Ghost @ May 23rd 2007 2:47AM
FUCKING.
AMAZING.
schmidt @ May 23rd 2007 3:31AM
Go frame by frame at the end, when the logo flashes and inverts there's a single frame of a molecular structure or something. Not sure if it means anything specific scientifically, but it's surely a hint about something.

NeverSage @ May 23rd 2007 4:08AM
schmidt,
You sir, are observant.
k0llateral @ May 23rd 2007 4:13AM
Nice F'n catch Schmidt!
Let's see what people have to say about that...
eldee @ May 23rd 2007 4:26AM
@22: Guess you'll have to stop sucking then :)
Allister Howe @ May 23rd 2007 4:40AM
Nooo, I'm already broke! Too many expenisve things coming out... Too many games, too many movies, too many trips this summer...
Looks amazing though. Can't wait to see what Ubi Montreal has cooked up for us this time.
FCOL @ May 23rd 2007 5:28AM
Nice. And then the little computerized fuzzout at the end when the title was shown to give a subtle hint of the grander plot. This game should be pretty cool.
ill trooper @ May 23rd 2007 5:51AM
Speaking of UNKLE:
from a few years back, an animation very much based on Tekken, Shibuya, and Futura's characters... Sort of Crackdownish, huh?:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ9yD-aDwqg
ShineDog @ May 23rd 2007 6:37AM
Wait, when was it ever about time travel?
It was always about some kind of genetic memory research being done to a distant relative for reasons unknown.
Interviews have basically confirmed this.
mor @ May 23rd 2007 7:43AM
@24
oh no.... i guess ill just have to play it on my PC then...
and you know what, im gonna use my wiimote to play it too
Theta @ May 23rd 2007 8:44AM
Looks good, stylized combat seems like an increasingly rare breed nowadays...for whatever reason. Was there supposed to be time-slow/bullet time action for this title?
Oh, and it warms the cockles of my heart to see some good news for the pathetic chest-pounding 12-year old fanboys who have a third game worth playing now. Watch out! The Wii is dead!
hahahahahaha
stafford @ May 23rd 2007 8:45AM
Can't wait to play this on the WII
JodyAnthony @ May 23rd 2007 9:03AM
damn day one purchase for me.
Huricos @ May 23rd 2007 9:18AM
Man, that song sounded a lot like the Verve to me.
UNKLE eh? Need to look that up.
Theta @ May 23rd 2007 9:53AM
Eh, the use of Lonely Soul is kind of a strange fit, I do agree that they went for the "mad world/GoW" angle, which I thought was pretty weak anyhow.
However, UNKLE is a really worthy outfit to look up, as they're quite well known in the electronic music and abstract hip hop scenes and has put out some seminal works.
ScreamingSkull @ May 23rd 2007 10:18AM
I love UNKLE, but I too felt it was a little off base, Mad world fit because it was set in a well, mad world. The lonely soul part works if you already know everything about the game already.. Still something less modern sounding would have been better.
