First Guitar Hero III tracks revealed, Les Paul guitar licensed

Remember when we decreed yesterday big hair day at Joystiq, to commemorate the announcement of seven new tracks for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s? Lucky for us, we didn't shower and Activision has rewarded our sloth, and our big hair, with some new details regarding the upcoming Guitar Hero game ... the one hitting all new-gen systems (even Wii) and the PS2, being developed by Neversoft. So, what's the news? First, some songs:

"Paint It Black" (by The Rolling Stones)
"Cherub Rock" (by Smashing Pumpkins)
"Sabotage" (by Beastie Boys)
"The Metal" (by Tenacious D)
"My Name is Jonas" (by Weezer)
"Knights of Cydonia" (by Muse)
"Rock And Roll All Nite" (as made famous by Kiss)
"School's Out" (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
"Slow Ride" (as made famous by Foghat)
"Cult of Personality" (by Living Colour)
"Barracuda" (as made famous by Heart)

Next, they're making wireless guitars "available" for all platforms; no word on whether they'll be the default axes, or optional peripherals. Furthermore, they've gone all Rock Band licensing the legendary Gibson Les Paul guitar for all new-gen platforms. Those afraid of change get the decidedly less legendary Gibson Kramer, available for the PlayStation 2. There's also a "new button color design" to confuse anyone thinking about sticking to their old axe. We're still expecting Guitar Hero III (not its real name, yet) in the fall of 2007 ... just after Rocks the 80s rocks our summer barbecue parties. Our carpal tunnel is acting up just thinking about it.

Seriously, we can't get some Gravity Kills up in this bitch (preferably Fifteen Minutes)? Or some Twiggy Ramirez licks thrown on? How about some Rasmus, She Wants Revenge, or even Offspring? Violent Femmes?

I mean... some of this looks good but they've barely scratched the surface on bands and they ALREADY have recurring bands? I call shenanigans.

Yikes....this is scary...this looks like its going to be one HARD game!!! Paint it Black will be fun on Expert...Cult of Personality will be hard as balls, thinking of that solo is making me cry!! And....Fog Hat?!?! can't wait!....make the Flying V for the Wii!!!!

I second the violent femmes suggestion. Would be going to see them in Chicago soon but I have to go to a wedding the day they are playing :( sucks.

holy hell, I was so hooked on the thought of les paul that I missed that SABOTAGE is going to be in this game. This will be the first guitar hero I plunk down $90 for.

So there's no reason for me to buy GH2 then, right? Just wait for a new guitar this fall.

There are many better, more guitar-intensive Muse songs, but I'm happy to see Muse there.

They should release a Guitar Hero: Heavy Metal edition, and stop releasing shitty songs (Weezer, WTF).

I mean... I Im not saying that this are bad songs, but, the game name is Guitar Hero... I dont think that Weezer guitar player is a guitar hero. Or like the other Guitar Hero games, like Sum 41, The Donnas, Nirvana... that doesnt contribute nothing musically speaking. I mean, I respect the music preferences of people, but those song should not be in Guitar Hero.

You should respect double negatives. And believe it or not, but a music game has to go with a popular preference while throwing in more obscure stuff. I mean, hell... even Amplitude had to add POD and Pink.

Kind of a weak lineup so far, but at least it's a good variety and we're seeing more original tracks. Oh, and Tenacious D sucks.

Im so glad I've held out and not purchased a guitar hero yet, and all I have to say is SABOTAGE!!!! Time to get my Beastie Boys on.

It will be interesting to see if the guitars for the Wii will be thier own controller or if they will use the wiimote as a battery/input. I could see them making you plug the controller into a slot on the back of the guitar and having it click into place(there is already grooves on the side of the wiimote for that to be a possibility.

More Muse would be sweet, Stockholm Syndrome would be insane.

Well, if they change the color scheme, I think the millions of people with the game already would probably riot. All they'd have to do, of course, is just have an option in the game.. You know, OPTIONS you stupid developers out there? Just have an option for the "old color style" and everyone will be happy.

Wait, wait---are they saying you can't use your GH2 controller on the PS2? Or you can, but the colors will be all screwy? Oh man, if that's true, I'm going to be so pissed off beyond-all-pissed-offedness...

About the Colors: I really could care less, I don't even look at the colors on the guitar. I figure all the notes as distance from center left or right.

I think I'll get this on the 360, just because multi-play will be better integrated, and I like the thought of DLC, just not at the current price.

Awesome, I was just fantasizing about Cherub Rock in Guitar Hero the other day. The song is alright, but I listen to the song from time to time only for the guitar. :) Paint It Black!!! YAY!

Yeah who cares if they change colors, just as long and there is still only 5 notes. Who actually looks at their guitar while playing?

Never thought I would see Muse on anything video game related. Guitar Hero must be made outside the US then? I could play a whole game of Origin of Symmetry for sure. Knights of Cydonia is the new Microcuts though. I'd like to see Microcuts on Singstar as a super-impossible unlockable.

I'll have to buy a new guitar anyway, because I think I'm gonna want to go for the Wii version. I have two PS2 guitars, but I just don't know how much longer that poor machine is going to last. I have to mess with the drive frequently to get it to work...

The 360 version would be fine too, if I have one by then. It's on my wish list! (Read: Buy me one.)

Smashing Pumpkins AND The D? Fuck yes!

If Nintendo is smart their version will be cheaper...use the Wiimote as the power source and tilt sensor, (MAYBE SOME RUMBLE AS FEED BACK?) and the Guitar itself would be cheaper to make.....MAKE IT A FLYING V FOR THE WII!!!!!!
