No Final Fantasy XIII this fiscal year, not before April 2008

Wada's forecast comes just a day after Konami indicated that Metal Gear Solid 4 would squeeze into stores before the end of the fiscal year.

I really think this would do wonders for Sony if it remains exclusive, but an announcement like this just makes me even more comfortable with waiting to purchase one.

I cant wait! (even though I still have to finish xii and x-2, not to mention all the other rpgs i have that Ive yet to complete. and here I am replaying chrono trigger for the 5th time)

It's never made sense to buy a PS3 until at least the price comes down.
And if FFXIII isn't due in Japan until 2008, it might be 2009 before it comes to the US.

What are you guys smoking? Fall 2007 is full of exclusive new IPs and 2008 is already looking good with MGS4 and Final Fantasy in the first half of the year.
I guess Folklore will have to do for 2007 and it only makes sense tospace out the release of MGS4 and Final Fantasy. However, it's niceto know they won't be that far apart, so once you get finishedsneaking around you can jump into the final fantasy universe.

No Metal Gear of Final Fantasy for the PS3 this holiday season? It will be a long 2007 for Sony, especially since the other two console's best known AAA exclusive titles are due out this year.

Great more time to spend on the GBA/DS Final Fantasies I've just bought. Also it gives me time for the FFXII that is still sealed and FFVII I just borrowed from a friend. I don't think I'll need to buy a PS3 for a long while.

I'm surprised anyone actually did expect it this year (fiscal or calendar). After all, didn't FFXII appear shortly before this last Christmas? I wasn't expecting to see FFXIII for at least 1.5 years after XII anyway... minimum. And, really, the PS3 does have plenty lined-up in the last two quarters of this year. So unless they all get pushed back it should still be fine for this coming holiday season.

Off the top of my head... the titles with sme hype are Lair, Heavenly Sword (I assume these are the summer delayed titles you are referring to), Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future, Sing Star (personally don't care about this one, but it is getting some hype), SOCOM, and Uncharted. Then you have games like Hot Shots Golf 5 which are generally good and will have a fair number of people interested. Then on the side you have Home launching. Beyond that you have the cross-platform titles like Assassin's Creed, DMC4, Mercenaries 2 (PS3 is lead SKU for this title), etc...
Not too bad really. It's not like if you just have a PS3 you'll have nothing to do for all of 2007. Of course, that's assuming they don't get pushed back... but I doubt they all would. That would be a disaster. As it sits now, the last half of 07 still looks fine.

#19 Vidikron Problem with the games you mentioned is that they are no where near the system sellers that Final Fantasy, Gran Tourismo, or Metal Gear games are.
They are mostly unproven franchises or half-games. I am not saying they will be bad games, but I doubt that the general market will be camping out for Lair or Heavenly Sword.

Vidikron, yes it will be nice to finally get those promised summer games in my PS3.
but Sing Star and Hot Shots Golf not withstanding, and WarHawk and SOCOM being crippled to multiplayer only, i don't see any killer holiday timeframe game that will move PS3s.
i don't know if Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted alone can do it. Home and the inevitable price drop will probably sell more.

I think my point was that the PS3 does have titles coming out in 2007 as the list of titles above show. I don't disagree that MGS4 and Final Fantasy are system sellers, but people will buy the console in the holiday because it has the best lineup in the timeframe compared to all the other options. MGS4 and Final Fantasy will continue those sales in the Spring 2008 because they are console sellers and don't need the holiday shopping push to move systems.

Well, there is no doubt those don't have the same system selling power that some of the big 08 titles do (and certainly nothing like Halo 3), I was just commenting about the people claiming the PS3 was officially worthless in 07 without FFXIII or MGS4. If these other titles hold, that's far from the truth.
People also discount cross platform titles, but that's foolish as well. A good title is a good title. If someone really wants games like FFXIII, GT5, and MGS4 and can't afford or does want both a 360 and PS3... then good titles to play in the mean time are important, even if they are cross platform.
The titles I listed above would give anyone plenty to do this fall while waiting for the big titles of 08.

if you think about it, it might not be a bad idea to have new games come out early in the year, if you cant meet the black friday deadline. You miss out on christmas sales, sure, but you have all the people that got money for christmas, plus people that are returning things they dont want/need.
I see ps3 having a good holiday season. Maybe not as much as wii or 360, but still.

Almost every game can be a system seller. I didn't by the PS3 for any specific game. A friend came over and played Motorstorm, he went out and bought a PS3 later that week. Would you consider Motorstorm to be a system seller? I did after that.

I know 3 people that bought a wii just because of wii sports. thats not really a 'system seller' title either.

wii sports is a huge system seller....I've seen so many casuals and brand new gamers who only buy the system for that, they own no other game..not even zelda

No Metal Gear Solid and no Final Fantasy till at least Fall 2008. Sounds like the PS3 isn't worth buying until early 2009. Maybe by then they will drop the price down to $350 or something more reasonable.
Although by then the Wii and Xbox 360 will have an unsurmountable lead ahead of the PS3

What other big titles does the 360 have after the September release of Halo 3? Maybe I miss the memo, but news around the 360 has been pretty much about the Elite, Halo 3, and the ring of death. The rest of the stuff is multi-platform or just not a big name title or new franchise.

What RPGs are you trying to finish? I made a promise to myself that I will not buy FFXII or another RPG until I finish Dragon Quest VIII, Valkyrie Profile 2 & Grandia 3. I also got Phantasy Star Universe, but that's not even worth the effort.

I can honestly say that if this along with MGS4 are ported to the 360 then I have no need to buy a PS3. Sure, LittleBigPlanet seems pretty quirky and fun, but I'm sure that eventually, while it will take a little longer both FFXIII and MGS4 will be ported to 360. Making my initial purchase of the Wii60 combo all the sweeter.
If not, then I'm powersaving, because I loves me some good old FinalFantasy.

When is the last time you played Final Fantasy (not F11) on an Xbox console?
Let alone the fact Kojima has screamed over, and over, and over again - that it is a PS3 exclusive. They have absolutely no plans to port, and are building it for the PS3 hardware.
