Super Smash Bros. Brawl still on for 2007
It's tough going to the party without a date. Earlier this week, Nintendo laid out its release plans up until September 2007, notably leaving a still dateless Super Smash Bros. Brawl out of the whole affair, forcing it to watch as Metroid Prime 3 marched to the ball with an alluring 20th of August on its cannon arm. With no solid release window in sight, the Wii's frantic fighter must have considered going on a lonely drinking binge and slipping into a coma until 2008.
That is, until Reggie Fils-Aime administered an unforgiving slap to the face and instilled hope once more. Speaking at the recent Nintendo Summit in Seattle, the Nintendo of America president confirmed that the musically rich Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy would both be out before your Official Iwata Swimsuit 2007 calendar becomes worthless. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for DS was given similar assurances and will likely join the anticipated Wii duo in this holiday season's battle for shoppers. You'd best start stocking up on that financial ammunition.

It's tough going to the party "without a date."
It's tough going to the "party without a date."
Oooooooh, double meaning based on word association!
Mac Aoidh @ May 23rd 2007 5:59PM
The 'Coming in 2007' is conspiciously absent from the European Smash Bros pages...
Dustin @ May 23rd 2007 6:13PM
It's still so far away... at least Halo 3 seems closer now.
number40one @ May 23rd 2007 6:23PM
Grrr. "Surprise surprise," but still... grrr.
Fernando Rocker @ May 23rd 2007 6:36PM
This game its going to move more Wii's than the consoles Halo will move. My prediction.
Mr Khan @ May 23rd 2007 6:39PM
I've got a good feeling about this (December 2007 all NTSC), and that feeling is reassured by the fact that i correctly guessed the months of Strikers (July) and Metroid (August)
the rumormill is saying December for Japan, and Melee wasn't even (technically) localized, it had both languages crammed on the GC disc
syco @ May 23rd 2007 6:39PM
SSB:M sold something like 6.5 Million copies. I still play that game, which is over 6 years old now. Honestly SSB:B may be the biggest thing to happen to the Wii since the Wiimote.
jay @ May 23rd 2007 6:46PM
I was about 15 at the time. The whole family went on holiday leaving me with a wad of cash and a big TV. Looked up on Gamefaqs and they said Smash Bros Melee was hitting Europe today. Set off before the shops opened. Bought it. Got home and haven't stopped playing it since.
Brawl is undoubtedly the most important moment of my gaming calendar. I can wait till late 2007, in the mean time I'll play Melee for another nonstop week.
StevO @ May 23rd 2007 6:46PM
Hell, it's about time.
kelekod @ May 23rd 2007 6:47PM
at least there's a daily update...
Link was confirmed (no surprises there), which I also read its going to be the Twilight Link, so maybe he might have a morph into wolf move similar to sheik and Zelda from SSBM.. now that would be pretty cool.
The first few characters that get posted will be the obvious ones from the first 2 games, it'll be exciting on some of the new ones, or "surprise renewals" from Melee. At least I have all summer to try and beat MP1 and MP2 and start the fall with MP3. Which starts once I beat the newly picked up Super Paper Mario.
Platy @ May 23rd 2007 6:55PM
lets see .... metroid, mario and smash to sell thousand of consoles before anything good come to ps3 (metal gear/ff) ? ouch =x
and lets not forget that with this ... wii will be the first next gen console to receive solid snake ! xD
and to finish .. i just want to add that with 2 daily blog posts every weekday they will have to show new info pretty soon =3
Platy @ May 23rd 2007 6:57PM
oh !
and the "design of THIS particular Link" may confirm the speculations that there will be a young link too ... like the cell shaded link =O
NvM @ May 23rd 2007 7:29PM
When friends come over, we still play melee more than any of my wii games.
I haven't anticipated any other game like this,(twilight princess comes close) ever.
Tron Knotts @ May 23rd 2007 7:55PM
Was this game originally supposed to be a launch game?
I really think it's going to come out in the fall, like Sept/Oct. Kojima recently commented that he was playing it with Sakurai, and that the game "would make Nintendo millions of dollars if it shipped tommorow" or something like that.
I think Nintendo has had this game and Metroid Prime 3 finished for a while, and they are just waiting to release them until it is sound with their strategy for competing with the other guys.
BPM @ May 23rd 2007 8:08PM
Tron, it was never mentioned to be a launch title, as far as I know.
And while Kojima may say that, he really isn't part of the programming team. He (with Konami) is just loaning Nintendo Snake for Brawl. I doubt he really knows how close to completion the game is (then again, he seems to be good friends with Sakurai, so who knows?).
Whether it comes out now or by the end of the year, all that matters is that it will come out. And if you really want the game, you'll still buy it no matter how many times it is "delayed."
Joshua @ May 23rd 2007 8:16PM
The exact quote was that Nintendo "could put it out right now and it could sell millions of copies."
And it can't be released in September, because that month was covered in Nintendo's last release list, so it's going to be October, November, or December, basically a year after its original launch title status (though that claim was made before the game was even in development!)
No matter what date it is released, however, it will be one sweet sweet day.
Tom @ May 23rd 2007 8:17PM
Sweet! I head Mario Galaxy will have online co-op with Luigi. Oh and Metroid will have 16-player online death match mode! Also, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are all unlockable characters in SSB Brawl!
generaldane @ May 23rd 2007 9:11PM
i heard that pigs will start flying tommorow
Meloche @ May 23rd 2007 10:27PM
I say November for Brawl, and December for Mario Galaxy. Well, I hope it's something like that. Or maybe before.
J44xm @ May 23rd 2007 11:12PM
I'm pleased that they are taking their time. This game has to last us for four or five years or so, so let them iron out all the kinks. No rush jobs.
Scumdog @ May 24th 2007 1:59AM
I'll say Smash in October and Mario Galaxy in November. Companies like to have their biggest titles on store shelves before Black Friday so I think a December release for either title is out of the question.
Damn, Wii shipments are finally getting larger and the Wii is starting to take a bit longer to sell out...come this fall there will be shortages all over again!
mo @ May 24th 2007 2:28AM
@18
thats a rumor, they wont start flying until nintendos next fiscal year, and even then with hell freezing over its not looking good
mo @ May 24th 2007 2:31AM
@16
they could put up empty box's with the name smash brothers on it and it would sell millions before anyone figured it out
Joshua @ May 24th 2007 7:33AM
Gooey Bomb!
Charles @ May 24th 2007 7:33PM
Bachelor party with Brawl > Bachelor party with Melee. Time to push back the wedding? d'oh. If SSBB isn't out by August I'll be annoyed.
In other words, I'm already annoyed.
MariovsSonic @ Jun 7th 2007 6:10PM
Joshua, they obviously have uncovered September. That was the past. Now they're in a tight situation where they NEED to release SSBB as soon as they can and get it off their backs. That being said I say Brawl for September, Mario Galaxy for November and MP3 I am not sure.
jack @ Jun 12th 2007 11:53AM
i think it would be sweet if Brawl added characters from Street Fighter, Ken and Ryu would be an easy fit
Judge Jeremy @ Jun 28th 2007 6:11PM
I am in a vortex of nothing. I saw on two different websites stating that Super Smash Bros: Brawl, is set for release on 12/31/07. Quite frankly, I do not wish to believe this, or I refuse to, becauze 95% of my summer vacation depended on this game. I can only enjoy 5% of it now. For some reason, Melee is not helping. I've played Melee, I can beat a team of 2 level nines, I need this game. Anyone feel this hunger? By the way, I dont think I'll be back here, but incase I'm not, find my MySpace; myspace.com/judgekillacruz, is it. Since most of you will not visit it, it is totally contributed to Brawl. But anyway, if anyone figures out a "date", please message me, or something. I would very much appreciate it!
MariovsSonic @ Jun 30th 2007 8:57AM
If Bowsers not in, I'm gonna kill the idiot who decclined his entry.
MariovsSonic @ Jun 30th 2007 9:04AM
SORRY, I DID NOT MEAN TO USE THE WORD KILL.
MariovsSonic @ Jun 30th 2007 9:15AM
I didn't mean that guys. Its just that the less popular Bowser gets the graeter the chance of him in SSBB.
Toadem @ Jul 2nd 2007 5:50AM
i hope dk isnt in brawl he really sucked i just couldent use him i could even use yoshi better then him!
Judge Jeremy @ Jul 5th 2007 6:02PM
Brawl will be released on 9/9/07. This is from tha Nintendo Administration.
P.S. Thanks, Lorenzo (I think thats how u spell it)!
Judge Jeremy @ Jul 6th 2007 8:44PM
Hey! Tha release date I put up there is from the Nintendo Administration! Super Smash Bros: Brawl WILL come out at that time! If not, then mabye a day or two before it.
HoboofDeath @ Jul 8th 2007 2:17AM
Bowser is comen back his final smash turns him into giga bowser for a lil bit :) go to Smashbros.com to find all this out ^^
Judge Jeremy @ Jul 10th 2007 4:38AM
I had a dream, that I waz playing this game. Mario's Final Smash is tight, and my sister sucks at using Zero Suit Samus. Hey, how doez she attack with tha lazer whip? I havent seen any video footage, or imagez.
MariovsSonic @ Jul 11th 2007 12:35PM
Gamespot says it comes out December 3rd. Please tell me this is wrong.
roy4 @ Jul 22nd 2007 4:34PM
