Halo 2 Vista coming May 31 in US, June 8 in Europe

After a long wait, Halo 2 is coming to Windows Vista-equipped PCs June 8 in Europe; the North American version, which was originally pushed back to May 22 but obviously missed that mark, will arrive May 31. The game will retail for £34.99 / $49.99, respectively.

When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Microsoft said, "Halo 2 for Windows Vista did not release to retailers on May 22, as previously announced and will now ship from manufacturers on May 31. Shadowrun will be the first game to debut the highly anticipated Games for Windows – LIVE system on May 29. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers."

PC gamers have been waiting over two and a half years for Halo 2 to break free from its console chains. Xbox 360 users are currently enjoying the Halo 3 beta. Those who did not get into the beta can check out our sister site Xbox 360 Fanboy for extensive beta coverage.

Really? I couldn't care less.

Wait a second. I saw copies of Halo 2 Vista (which had 1 month subscriptions to X-Box Live Gold) at Circuit City when I was going for my $10 copy of WoW. Did Circuit City accidentally jump the gun (as the 22 was two days ago), or were they display copies?

Well is it's 20XX, you can wait in line with the Blue Bomber.

I wanted this just for the map editor (I have roughly 80 environments made in NVN toolkits not being used) but I'll be damned if I'm going Vista.

I find this story strange, I work for a electronics retailer and we got our copies in on Wensday of last week, and I've had a copy of my own since this past weekend.

Its about time we got a bloody DX10 version of this game! I support Halo 2, and I support George W. Bush.

the game is at circuit city, my friend bought it yesterday and has been playing it. it runs fine but there aren't many servers. gamestop doesn't have it though and that might be why it hasn't been officially released yet.

You know what else comes out next week? Forza 2.

on the one hand I could 'die of misery'

on the other hand, I can be lame enough to come onto a weblog and come up with the very original idea of putting 'sucks' after someones name and try to insult them to no avail.

Why is it in EVERY Halo 2 PC post the SAME users comment how they're not going to get it because it's on Vista. We heard you the first time. For the record, I'm not going to get it because I already have it on the Xbox and I don't care.

The two top rated games ever are Ocarina of Time and Half Life 2. Guess what? A LOT of people don't like either of those games at all. You are not special for not liking Halo. Guess what? Many people love that 360 Bomberman game and the Superman game on the N64. Go figure.

Who gives a fuck? There are a ton of excellent FPS games on the PC that highlight exactly how poor and uninteresting Halo really is. Why would I want to play a stupid port of a three year old XBOX game on my PC when I could play any number of far superior S games on my PC that have better gameplay and far better graphics?

Ignoring 'blah dee halo sucks vista sucks' posts, I already have it. I think they better start giving explanations for why it keeps getting delayed, especially so those who already own the darn thing know what's going on. It works fine for me, except for a few things (but I'm running under video requirements so..)

No thanks. Have it for xbox and it's dull compared to other PC FPS. On consoles it's a different story.

I picked up a copy on the 22nd from Circuit City.

There is one problem with this game, vista is a requirement...

Halo 2 on Vista is fucking crap from what I hear.

And the reviewers seem to agree with this.

Thats bull halo 2 WAS released to stores on may 22nd but the copies were defective, theres about 20 defective copies sitting in the back of the circuit city where I work.

if this is a european and american price tag then why isn't it in euro?

yeah really, I don't remember the majority of europeans paying in pounds. Please joystiq, remember that there are other countries in europe besides the UK.

I work at CircuitCity and we got copies of it and PC guys put them out well over a week ago. We installed it on one of the PC's on display and everything.

yeah circuit city put it out on may 22. We have it out here at our circuit city also. We never got the memo to hold it till May 31.

I'm sure the dozen or so people who's systems are still infected with Vista are thrilled.

yea, this has been in my local circuit city since about the 16th of this month(i think the origional release date). So what's the deal?

$50 for a 3 year old console port? Is Microsoft insane?

Anyone considering an upgrade to Vista just for this should just get themselves a Xbox360 and a used copy of Halo2.
