Ninja-based indie platformer coming to PSP
Raigan Burns and Mare Sheppard of Metanet Software have gathered plenty of praise and awards (such as Audience Award at the 2005 Game Developers Choice Awards) for their 2004 indie platformer, N. You take the role of a ninja who must flip, walljump, and climb your way through hundreds of levels, many of which were created by fans using the in-game editor. It's a simple game on all fronts that captivated players with realistic physics and plenty of non-violent ninja-ing.Now, Atari and Silver Birch have announced a publishing deal to bring N to the PSP, cleverly titled N+. The game comes packed with over 500 levels, including 50 user-created stages from fans of the original game. The PSP incarnation doesn't appear to contain any additional content over the free PC/Mac/Linux game, but portability (and a decent PSP title to own) might be the biggest selling points.
N+ has also been announced for Xbox Live Marketplace and is scheduled for release this fall.

It's an ok game if you like microscopic characters. Not worth paying for though.

This is awesome. I love N. Unfortunately I do not have a PSP (I'm a DS owner) but I'm happy that N is getting the recognition it deserves, regardless of system. It's truly a great platformer and one of the great (but few) awesome 2D games made in recent years.

Wow, that is just amazing.

I used to keep that game on a USB stick. I'd rather see it on the DS, too, but what I'm really glad to see is independent game developers finally starting to get their due. Makes me want to start coding again.

This is one of the greatest flash games ever made, so simple yet so deep. This is one of those games that appears stupid and easy at first, but ultimately requires such ridiculous planning and precision that every level success looks like some kind of speedrun art.
This game is like lode runner meets sonic 3 meets ninja gaiden meets some arthouse flick. A++
I would get this on the PSP except I don't have a PSP, and hell it's free on PC.
PLAY N NOW.

Hm. I would have thought this was coming to the DS before the PSP. But more N is good anywhere. Go indie!

Rock on!
So now with Crush, R-Type Tactics, N+, Every Extend Extra... I might end up buying a PSP after all. Oh God, did I just say that? I feel unclean...

There's some misinformation in this article that I've just got to clear up. :)
Atari and Silverbirch are producing N+ for PSP, and also DS. Woohoo! Both are scheduled to be released later this year.
Also, we have not confirmed how many levels there will be in any version of N+, and also have not confirmed any user-created levels. The stats in this post sound much more like they belong to N v1.4 for PC, not N+.
We'll post this officially on the Metanet news page shortly!

Hey, the Metanet website is all over this DS business now! Well hell yeah!
yojimb0 @ May 24th 2007 5:31PM
this is awesome news! if you haven't played N, mos def go and check it out... it combines a lot of really cool stuff from new and old school platformers into a pretty goddamn tight flash game.

This will quite possibly make me finally update my psp to the latest software.
I've been saying since i first got my psp...N should totally be on this console.
Its so perfect for the platform and now finally it is :D
Kritz @ May 24th 2007 6:08PM
Wow. This may be the first game I'll own for the PSP, ignoring the two titles I got when I bought it.
Better yet, it might make me want to play the damn thing again.
Well, depending on how much it costs. I'm not paying $70 AU for a handheld game when I could spend $100 AU for a "real" game.
Suppose I'll wait for time to tell.
Next-Gen-Gamer @ May 24th 2007 10:18PM
I think John meant PSP...and DS.
SKI @ May 24th 2007 10:40PM
It's also on the DS, which is the version I will get.

I've been playing video games for 20 years, and I can honestly say that I consider N to be one of the greatest games of all time. It has complex gameplay that emerges from a simple control scheme, and it constantly challenges you to become better, learning new moves that you never thought you could pull off before.

that's funny, N coming to psp. i love the game, it great. the thing that so funny is N is actually a flash game. if the psp was given more flash memory, we could actually play the version of the internet. i guess people got to make money some how.
