PSM: Sixaxis will rumble this year
According to a GameFAQs forum member, the latest issue of PSM revives the PS3 Sixaxis rumble rumors, hinting once again that Sony could integrate the "last-gen feature" into upcoming controllers. According to the magazine's rumor section, Sony will announce rumble support at E3 for a release in mid-November. The re-designed controller will allow both tilting and rumble, united at long last thanks to the settled courtroom battle between Sony and Immersion.

Where is the the "sixaxis" letters on the controller? On my controller it says sixaxis on the right of the USB connection.
Anyways, its about time for rumble.
BIGGEN @ May 24th 2007 8:42AM
wish they would redesign the actual controller. now that's last last gen.
Jake @ May 24th 2007 8:45AM
So PS3 owners have to purchase new controllers to get everything out of new games after this year. That has got to piss a few people off.
I'm actually quite happy. I plan to get a PS3 eventually and like rumble in my controller. Late adopters ftw!!
This thread should drag out the real nasty fanboys, though. MS added a larger HDD, black paint, and output port unnecessary for 720p games and the Sony fanboys absolutely went nuts. Now Sony is actually making you buy something(s) to enjoy all of the code on the game discs for a system you already bought.
How much are controller's apiece? My buddy, who has a PS3, 4 controllers, and likes rumble, is going to be soooo pissed. I can't wait to call him.
JodyAnthony @ May 24th 2007 8:45AM
sweet. i loves me some rumble. Maybe it will add some weight to the sixaxis as well.
Jdoki @ May 24th 2007 8:50AM
I'm sure the person most pissed off about this is Hideo Kojima; but it looks like he got his wish!
Quote from interview with Hideo in UK PlayStation mag... "That said, I miss the rumble, and even now I hope it will come back."
I wonder if they have time to add in some rumble support to MGS4? ;)
AssemblyLineHuman @ May 24th 2007 8:55AM
Cool. So I'm getting a PS3 after all.
Kye @ May 24th 2007 8:56AM
NDF on stand-by!!
Did the people at sony ever sit and think what they really want? You know, actually make a plan?
Or did a bunch of 16 year olds just sit around the table and had the following conversation:
Lets have 20Gb harddrive!
And a 60Gb One!
Yeah great! 2 models are better than one!
No, scrap the 20, lets have 80!
Ok.
Blueray?
Fuck yeah man!
Backwards compatability?
Errmmm...
Tilt sensors?
Isn't it too late for that?
No!!
Rumble?
Nah...
No wait...yes to rumble...
Are we sure 80Gb is enough?...
Jack of No Trades @ May 24th 2007 9:05AM
SDF now locked and loaded!
Nintendo's conversation:
-Should we design a brand new system from top to bottom?
NO!
-Lets put the Gamecubes CPU & GPU inside of the Revolution so we can acually make money this generation.
Sounds Good.
-All we have to do is convince these Mario follows that graphics don't matter so we can port all these unfinished games from the Gamecube to the Revolution.
Easy!
-Isn't this a rip off to the consumer when we are making $200 profit for every system sold.
Who cares! All those idiots will buy anything Nintendo!
*All Laugh* HAHAHAHAHHA
CakeOrDeath @ May 24th 2007 9:09AM
You are reporting on rumours of rumours now?
Basically an unreliable source is stating that a semi reliable source has some kind of source suggesting that rumble will be back in November.
Jonathan Tran @ May 24th 2007 9:14AM
Instead of redesigning the controller, why not re-release Starfox64 as a PS3 port, and include the Rumble Pak?
jay @ May 24th 2007 9:16AM
Just like the 360 and it's various iterations over its short life span - I think I'll sit out on buying any of these "next gen" consoles until they settle down. Whats next? HDMI 1.4? Gyros in the 360 controller?
megaStryke @ May 24th 2007 9:18AM
Sony, welcome to the jungle. We got fun and games.
Daniel @ May 24th 2007 9:23AM
Jack of No Trades: Your constant need to talk bad about Nintendo is more laughable than it is anything else.
"Oh... another PS3 or 360 related article on Joystiq? Let me flame about the Wii!"
I wonder how many times you refresh the Joystiq main page a day.
Jack of No Trades @ May 24th 2007 9:27AM
Daniel
The number of time I refresh Joystiq a day is the same number as my Friends code-

Thing is, Kyes is actually believable. drop the 20gb, introduce the 80gb, add rumble, mess up PAL's b/c.
Nintendo are using different CPU and GPU's, graphics have never mattered (what, did Jack prefer GC and Xbox to the PS2 because of their graphics?). Wii costs money because they shrunk components down (or paid IBM/Ati to do so) and experiment with gyroscopic controllers. Or do you think machines just appear with no previous development cost at all? I don't care if they're making a profit off me - it keeps them in business and makes sure we'll see a Wii2, whereas Sony and MS both have gaming divisions which could be discarded if they don't make a profit.
Kye @ May 24th 2007 9:31AM
That's the Jack Ive come to think as a worthy adversary.
I can imagine the heads at Sony now...
Sh*t even the PS2 is outselling the PS3!
What'll we do?
Have we tried giving away free Wii with every PS3?
Yeah, but we can't find Wii's for love nor money, they're selling so fast, those intelligent bastards at Nintendo! *shakes fist*
Should we do an about-face and include rumble?
But that would bring shame upon our ancestors.
Screw them, thats why they're dead, cuz they couldn't hack it.
Ok then its decided. We'll make nice with the rumble people and offer a free japanese school-girl to every PS3 buyer!
*the lights dim to reveal glowing red eyes and pointy tails*
Jebus Crust @ May 24th 2007 9:32AM
I think its a no-brainer that Sony will announce the re-introduction of rumble at E3. I also think that they will have Immersion's next-gen rumble and not the 2 rotating motors that the Crap60 and Wee have.
Hey Jack...
Here are some other parts of the Nintendo brainstorming session for you...
How can we make it irrisistable to the masses? Everyone male or female loves to play with wee's so let's call our repackaged GC a Wee.
Take our allready finished Zelda for GC and tak on some swing your arms around like a fool controls and release it before the GC version on our WeeCube as a launch title.
Let's make a bunch of mini-games with no depth that the non-gamers will enjoy.
Let's pretend that no-one has made a bowling game b4 and say that we were the 1st to do it. And hopefully Sony will be making a bowling game with motion controls and all of our Weeboys will say that Sony copied us.
Let's make more Mario games.
Let's make even more Mario games.
Let's make another Pokemon game.
Let's just rely on all of our 20+ year old franchises and tak on some motion control and say that we are the innovators.
Let's charge more than $100 more for the Wee than the GC for the motion control of the Wee so we can have an industry first and make money off a "new" console.
Let's hire a big American guy and have him beat his chest and say lot's of tough-guy smack talk so that we can hide the fact that we are doing nothing new except inputting a huge price increase on our GC console.
Let's keep bending over our fanbase and pound them harder, faster, and squeez out any dignity or individualism that they have left so that no matter what Sony or Microsoft does our Weeboys will blindly defend us to the death and keep buying all of our rehashed crap that we keep feeding them.
Let's wait about a year after the release of our repackaged GC and then release another one with DVD playback.
Jack of No Trades @ May 24th 2007 9:36AM

The R&D on the Wii shouldn't have cost too much. The real cost was in the patents. The CPU & GPU is extremly dated technology. ATI & IBM probably paid Nintendo to put the old chips in the Wii.
megaStryke @ May 24th 2007 9:40AM
@Jebus
Actually, Sony and Microsoft could learn from Nintendo:
"Fuck! They are making tons of money without doing any work? Why didn't we do that? The customer sucks balls!"
Jebus Crust @ May 24th 2007 9:45AM
Jay,
the PS2, GC, and XBOX were pretty much on an even playing field powerwise.
The 360, PS3 are again on the same playing field powerwise.
The GC, and XBOX were more powerful than the PS2 but all tree systems were of the same generation.
The Wee, is NOT.
You say grafix don't matter. BS, if grafix dont matter, why don't you buy a TRS-80 or Trash80 and hook up a Weemote to it. What does it matter if your character is represented by a block. No head, no body, nothing but a square block.
See, jackass, grafix do matter, they matter alot. They make the game more fun and more believable. Gameplay is very important...but gameplay without grafix is meaningless.
And no, Nintendo did not experiement with gyroscopic controllers. The Weemote has accelerometers....that's it.
The Wee's CPU and GPU are the SAME chips from the GC. Don't believe me? Ask IBM, ask Nintendo...they allready said it many, many times.
I know, I know, but...but look how many Wee's have been sold...see, that's proves that it is a better system.
Ya, ok, many of the people that are buying the Wee are people that have never bought a videogame machine b4. So, after the "fun" dies down for them, do you really think that they will keep buying software? I bet some of them think that WeeSports is the only game on the system.
Most people still believe that there is an invisible man in the sky that watches over everything you do and instills all of his knowledge and power to a few thousand old men in robes.
So, just because the masses are eating the Wee crap up...does NOT mean it is a better system.

I agree with megaStryke
Sony, in revenge for consumers buying Wii's & 360's have retaliated by screwing their customers over again and again.
Lets make our product with cheap parts and shoddy build quality.
Yeah, and lets never make up our minds about whats included.
Yeah, the bastards, lets screw them till the end of time. *shakes fist*

Maybe Sony should just repackage the PS2 and re-release it with a motion controller and charge more than $100 dollars more for it.
Oh wait....no, they cant do that....they would be copying Nintendo.

Jebus Crust @ May 24th 2007 9:59AM
Jack...if Sony did that, people would go crazy over how much Sony is ripping off Nintendo and everyone else by re-selling the PS2 in a new coat of paint.
See Jack, that is the difference.
Jack of No Trades @ May 24th 2007 10:01AM
Jebus
Yea, its crazy how Nintendo gets 200ft of slack but MS & Sony don't get an inch.
LongshotX @ May 24th 2007 10:02AM
I think someone should rip open a Wii and see whats really in their. I mean is it really new hardware. So far we have not seen a single game take advantage of the supposedly new CPU and GPU. Even top tier games like Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption look like they could have been on the Gamecube. I believe that's the problem I have with the Wii. It is insomuch that Nintendo had the audacity to "repeat" a last generation console at a $250 price tag. I mean where is the value. Is it in the supposedly revolutionary Wiimote? Is that it? Does that justify the price tag?
JodyAnthony @ May 24th 2007 10:04AM
rumble is something that was severely lacking with the playstation 3. i really hope this rumor is true. rumble adds a lot of immersiveness, at least in my opinion.
LongshotX @ May 24th 2007 10:06AM
No I'm actually a secret agent who has infiltrated NDF headquarters, in an attempt to understand why they defend such a pointless piece of trash. I am actually the Lt. in the 360th Armored Tactical Xbox Division.
pixpix @ May 24th 2007 10:06AM
Now, of course, you have to wonder why anyone in their right mind would buy a PS3 before the finished product comes out.
It's getting rumble.
There has to be a price drop, or Sony is dead.
Only ignorant losers would buy the system before these things happen.
JesseJames @ May 24th 2007 10:07AM
The 360 is all but old news now; the Little engine that could but never did. Sony's updates puts the 360 to shame. It was inevitable that rumble would be coming back; so what exactly is appealing about the 360? uhhhhh; Gears of War?; Great AI in that game; LMAO. Oh wait; Halo 3. They can keep it. MS has NO CHANCE AGAINST SONY!
PS
Good Morning to all the 360 Fanboys!

The maturity of Sony supporters like JesseJames all but guarantees that the PS3 is really headed for the crapper.
1. Children cannot afford this system.
2. It seems these days that only children are defending the system.
3. The system will fail.

I have seen a game designed to be played by a blind person. It was compelling, suspenseful, and fun.
And you say...?
Daniel @ May 24th 2007 10:27AM
Anyone who thinks that the Wii has the 'exact same chips' as the gamecube is totally ignorant.
Apparently nintendo has an incredible shrinking ray that will turn a 180nm chip into a 90nm chip.
This, combined with the pixie dust that comes with every Wii as well as the sensor bar mind control techniques, guarantees Nintendo's market dominance this generation.
redneckvampire @ May 24th 2007 10:28AM
You know, when I bought a Wii on day one I was really concerned I might be making a mistake in buying a product that was a gimmick or a flash-in-the-pan. Then it started selling like mad and my fears decreased. I am still waiting for some new, good games, but in the meantime I get to check Joystiq and see the wonderful, unexpected side effect of the Wii. It makes trolls spontaneously combust. How cool is that.
Fracker @ May 24th 2007 10:28AM
Sucks to be a PS3 early adopter.
A controller with totally new functions is not some slight hardware tweak. Sony has made a serious error and they've realized the need to correct it.
I can't imagine anyone buying the system until at least this Christmas. It'll be cheaper, too.
Just_a_guy @ May 24th 2007 10:31AM
well... just adding my two cents: graphics do matter, but for me, I won't get the extra graphics because 1) I currently am forced to use a TV from the early 90's to play my videogames, and because 2) In colege, once I get there, I won't be able to afford an HD tv anyway.
That's why I ain't buying the other systems.... (I also love mario, Link, and Samus)
bm @ May 24th 2007 10:31AM
Sony's convo again:
Alright, we need to push this new format.
Oh, I know!
We'll put out a bluray player, right? And then pretend we've made a games console. Have IBM put some mid-range PC graphics chip in it.
Right. We can just re-use our old version of the SNES controller ...again!
Yeah, yeah, and justify the retarded pricepoint by convincing them it'll look about twenty times better than anything else. And that bluray players normally cost $15000 or some shit. We'll, like, say they have to work hard for it or something. That it's for the elite and it'll make you look rich if you buy one.
Uhh, but we can't even top Microsoft's console in the graphics department...let alone the PC.
Hey, it worked with the "emotion engine", remember? Joe public isn't very smart, they'll fall for it again. And we'll push a few mundane NES era features as revolutionary ("real-time weapon change" sounds good if you say it enthusiastically enough!)
You're right. The first five million will buy it, even if it has no games!
[later]
Fuck! Nintendo have done the motion thing. Just when we lost rumble against immersion, too. We'll look lame!
Let's come out and call their stuff a gimmick.
Alright.
But everybody's loving it! Quick, solder in some accelerometers in ours.
Ah, good idea! And now we can pretend like there was no more room for rumble or some crap.
But sir, they have rumble.
Well, just... don't say anything about that.
[later]
Ok. They've got customizable avatars. Everybody is eating it up. We need something.
Right, we'll do the same. Except, uhh (waves hands), make it more cool for the young'uns. Teenage looking avatars that they can make just as emo as in real life. With houses so they can pretend to be rich. Like on MTV?
And the main difference between ours and theirs will be that we'll have mircotransactions.
Brilliant!
And btw, we settled with Immersion, we'll have rumble again, woo! Everybody will know that we lied earlier, but... woo! We've also sacked Ken.
Great, things are looking better, now maybe we can start inching away from the gutter into close third place. I hope. Nobody's buying out shit yet. :(
Nowhere to go but up!
