"40. So you'd rather have a lobby than dive right in? This setup is faster and easier."

Rubang, no no no. Logging on, waiting in a lobby for two seconds before finding someone to challenge and then play is a lot faster then

reading your friend a 16 digit friend code
listening to their 16 digit friend code
saving it for later. then when you feel like playing...
calling your friend
telling them to turn on their ds and accept your challenge
...and bam! you're ready!

Or, you could go on a messageboard and post a topic asking if anyone wants to play you in Pokemon. You then must post your friend code, and wait for them to reply with yours. Add them into your ds, and meet up in Pokemon.

Yeah. You're right. Having the friend code system is a LOT easier then a lobby.

Dude, it's ok to hate something Nintendo does. You don't have to defend everything. I love the Wii. But their online system is awful. Admitt it or ignore it, but don't tell people who see it's flaws that we're wrong and that it's actually better.

Because it's not.

Or you could just enter a match with a random opponent in seconds.

I hate Friend Codes and I hate that Nintendo actually believes this is the right way to go. Its stupid and its annoying. I want a fucking lobby. I want to be able to play against random strangers and do it whenever I want to ASAP. Its beyond frustrating at this point. You'd think Nintendo would have learned from Microsoft since the 360 has been out for over a year now and clearly its the best out there. It may not be perfect but Nintendo SHOULD HAVE used it as a starting base and worked to tweak it.

IDIOTS. I really don't blame people if they refuse to buy this game. I know I'm not getting Pokemon and I might not get this game. In fact the only Online game I'll be tempted to get is Battlion Wars 2 and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. And God help Nintendo if those two require Friend Codes in ANY way. Trust and believe that I will call Nintendo and cuss those pussies out. Its time we made our voices HEARD. Yes Nintendo is my favorite company and I'm sure its the same for many of yall as well but we CANNOT stand aside and let this shit continue. We NEED a solid and easy Online System that both Nintendo and 3rd Party Companies can utilize in an efficient manner from now on.

End Rant...wow that felt good to get out. Please let me now what you think.

With my experience with Xbox Live, I can say that this is a great move...nothing shits me more than when I'm forced to play on an overseas server that has enormous pings.
Doesn't help that Australian broadband is a bit behind in the times, but still.

You yanks need to start looking at things from OTHER people's perspectives now-and-again...

Um, I actually wouldn't mind not being able to play with others on different continents or countries. Trying to play Ghost Recon with a bunch of people speaking French or Chinese on the old Xbox was pretty aggravating. Lag was sometimes a problem, but it would make voice chat was useless.

I think you guys may be missing the point here. Many, MANY Wii gamers use the built in WiFi card as opposed to connecting via USB port to the internet. Using a wireless connection can sometimes be drastically slow and lag a game up. When playing BF 2142 on my PC, my game gives me the "Problem with Connection" message every 20 seconds when connected wirelessly. It got so old, I disconnect my modem from the router and hardwire the PC every time I go online with BF 2142.

The least Nintendo could do to improve there so-called "screwed up" online venture is to restrict multiplayer within a continent. Like another user said, "better safe than sorry". With all those Wii's running on a wireless connection, lag could quite possibly be a giant issue when running head to head with an opponent overseas.

One last thing I noticed while reading the actual scan. Would connecting your Wii via USB adapter still restrict a user within Europe? It seemed to state "Note: If, IF, you use the Nintendo WIFI connection, you will be restricted to playing only European players". The "IF" gets me. It seems like you wouldn't be restricted if using a direct connection to the Wii. Anybody else think about this? Tell me what you think, it just seems like the little note is stated oddly.

@50, "It's just like playing with really smart AI." No it's not. No AI can compare to real people. AI is smart and follows a pattern, and no matter how smart it is you can discover the patterns. Real people are crazy and dumb and change their strategies constantly, making it madness. Nothing compares to human opponents.

@51, this is still faster and easier. You hit "random" and you're in a match. You do NOT need the friend codes. I'm not saying it's better. I'm saying it's faster and easier. A monkey can turn on the Wii, put this game in, and hit "random match" and start playing. Nintendo is making this easy for n00bz. It's a pretty good idea considering there are only 6 million unique XBox Live accounts out of 34 million systems (24 million XBoxes and 10 million 360s).

Besides, no online system is better than Battle.net.

@53, "I want to be able to play against random strangers and do it whenever I want to ASAP."

Uhh, you can.

Why the hell would you want to play a console game online with someone you don't know? That doesn't even make sense...

@ Rich

the name of the service is Nintendo WiFi Connection, no matter how you actually connect to it, although why they didn't put an ethernet port in the Wii is beyond me (I fully expect the first major Wii revision to support that somehow)

Thank you for clearing up my confusion. I was pretty sure it was the way you explain it is, but that "if" part was really nagging at me. Oddly phrased to me, that's all. :)

43. "Sure would if I could get past all the error messages it gives me."

*nyuk nyuk nyuk*

Nintendo fans are waaaay too forgiving. If MS or Sony were doing this half assed job with online people would be planning a class action lawsuits against them.

Posted at 6:50PM on May 25th 2007 by cc123"

Because they had to mortgage their house to buy the damn ms and sony systems. Low budget systems are exactly that. settle down boy
