New Grand Theft Auto IV screens, illustrations
Rockstar just sent over four new screens of Grand Theft Auto IV, which we've added to our gallery for the game. Included in this latest batch is this picture of Niko rollin' in a (stolen?) late 80s Chrysler, this African guy's underwear, Chinatown, and this incredible shot of what we imagine is "BOABO" (Beneath the Offramp of the Algonquin Bridge Overpass. But that's not all, they've included some logo treatments (no big surprises here) and illustrations (check out these shady dudes) to keep you hooked.

edog lost @ May 25th 2007 12:09PM
Man.. I can't wait till this game comes out. I am going to bury myself in snow and freeze myself till October.
vidGuy @ May 25th 2007 11:30AM
What's with the artwork of the cops? "It's a form of cell-shading, OMG, this is SUCH a kid's game!"
Seriously, though, I'll probably pick this up for the 360 shortly after release, it's looking good.
sam @ May 25th 2007 11:31AM
Graphically looks cool, but c'mon why can't I customize my own character. This dude looks like a Chechnyan terrorist! Why would I want to play a game with that guy? Bleech.
cc123 @ May 25th 2007 11:31AM
I'm so glad they based it on NYC. I can't wait to play in my own city.
I wonder how realistic they got it.

Its not based in NYC, its a fictional city inspired by NYC. So you're not goin got see that one restaurant with the really good noodles that you like to go to.
Paulish @ May 25th 2007 11:35AM
Looking good so far. Glad I got my copy on reserve.
n_revolution9 @ May 25th 2007 11:40AM
Can't wait till it comes for teh Wii!!!!!
cc123 @ May 25th 2007 11:40AM
@Crono
I thought they were going to model the fictional city on NYC buildings. I thought that was why some NY politicians were getting pissed off cause they were making it too close and just changing names.

@Sam
Rumor is you won't have to play as that guy, because he dies early in the game and his cousin or something takes over as the lead character. But I see your point... then again, I don't really care if the lead character "looks like a terrorist"...
megaStryke @ May 25th 2007 11:43AM
GTA would be so much better if there were zombies and robots.
J.O.N.T @ Jun 4th 2007 2:04PM
That looks good.
JeffyP00 @ May 25th 2007 11:52AM
Huh? Is it cell shaded or not? Pick one for christ's sake!
NintendoFanbot @ May 25th 2007 11:52AM
To be honest I'd love it if a following GTA would actually reflect it's cel-shaded art. :)
But GTA IV looks like Rockstar's working hard, looking forward to it.
Jinx @ May 25th 2007 11:53AM
what would make it even better is zombie robots...heh
J.O.N.T @ May 25th 2007 11:55AM
Will pick this up
Hirsbrunner @ May 25th 2007 12:05PM
Has it been confirmed what time period GTA IV will take place?
I bought GTA Vice City just for the 80's soundtrack. Great music. San Andreas...not so much.

Don't stay asleep too long because you might end up in future ravaged by three warring factions of atheists, fighting over who has the most appropriate name!

"I wonder how realistic they got it."
It looks like it's about as realistic as GTA3 was. Some things are right, others are not, still more is not even intended to be realistic. The whole thing looks extremely compressed in terms of distance, and there are not nearly as many buildings in any of these shots as in the real NYC. Several areas have been combined - Chinatown is not really where it is in the shot above (that would have to be Chambers St. for that view, which is not in Chinatown), "BOABO" is actually DUMBO - there are no residential buildings directly under the Brooklyn Bridge, but there are under the Manhattan Bridge. My guess is the Manhattan Bridge doesn't actually exist in the game, nor will most of NYC's other two dozen or so bridges.
I just hope nobody gets disappointed by the fact that this is not a simulation of NYC. Alternatively, I hope nobody who doesn't know any better thinks this is a real representation of the city. Like GTA3, it has certain obvious landmarks, but some areas are combined, the distance between landmarks seems much shorter than real life, and just the overall density of the city is much less than reality.
RetepNamenots @ May 25th 2007 1:08PM
To be honest, I don't think it actually looks that good :(
vidGuy @ May 25th 2007 1:13PM
Retep, it doesn't look up to snuff with some other high-end visuals, but when has a GTA game pushed the boundaries in graphics? IV is showing a drastic improvement over San Andreas in the visuals. The cars and people still have that GTA-blocky look, but the city is looking great, IMO.
Paul Gale @ May 25th 2007 1:34PM
I've got to say, Grand Theft Auto IV looking this good is making me lean more towards the Special Edition Box with duffle bag, etc., for a few extra bucks. Nice new screenshots; thaks Rockstar.
Grant @ May 25th 2007 1:51PM
wow, that looks delicious.
can't wait for this one.
Quando @ May 25th 2007 3:26PM
They got the sunset right and everything. But no twin towers. In fact all downtown/wall street area seems to be absent. Twin towers would have added more contraversy.
Sendai @ May 25th 2007 10:53PM
@jeff
You um...actually expect Grant Theft Auto to be realistic?
Benjy @ May 25th 2007 5:16PM
I'm a Ninty boy through and through. But the game looks (both graphically and playability wise) amazing.
3cubedminus3squared @ May 25th 2007 6:46PM
This is a must for my 360.
But yeah I don't like th elooks of this guy either.
If they have a turban as an option for hats, I'll buy him one and steal only taxis. ;)
Ghost @ May 25th 2007 10:08PM
Hopefully it wont have the same, over exposed sunsets and shitty filters from SA.
Where colors and light will look correct and not like they are from some stupid cartoon.
