The Sims coming to the big screen, logic be damned!
You know what's really popular? Tax season. It seems like every year, tax fever sweeps across the nation and people just can't get enough of doing their taxes. But you know, they've never made a movie about taxes. Do you know why? Because it would be eyeball murder. Now, could somebody please pass the lesson along to 20th Century Fox? They've just picked up the movie rights to The Sims. Now, is this just a crass ploy to get up in the Matchbox 20 money that The Sims series pulls down? No, not according to Sims Studio head Rod Humble. He says it's all about the story. "The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," he said. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling." Gross, now we've got synergy all over our keyboard.
Oh, lest we forget the best part, a guy who helped write Scary Movie 3 is writing the screenplay. So, yeah, enjoy. We're going to go kiss Uwe Boll on the mouth.

maverick_saturn_626 @ May 25th 2007 10:01AM
Okay thats it, its the end of the world as we know it, they might as well buy the rights to Tetris too.
TETRIS THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHEN FALLING BLOCKS COME FROM THE SKY AND LAND ON EARTH DESTROYING HUMANITY AND LIFE AS WE KNOW IT, THE ONLY ALTENATIVE IS TO GET RID OF THE BLOCKS BY GETTING STRAIGHT LINES, CAN HUMANITY DO IT? WHO KNOWS!
COMING TO A CINEMA NEAR YOU!!!!!!!!
FALLING BLOCKS HAS NEVER BEEN SO DISASTEROUS!!!!!
Hey, there isn't a pacman movie! Why not make that too! Besides, movies are kinda crappy these days, so people won't mind watch crap like this :)
They should make the movie simlish, that would be humourous ^^ I feel sorry for the loosers that waste money watching this movie -_-
Crono @ May 25th 2007 10:07AM
Jonathan Tran, that would make this movie hysterical.
the ONLY way you could pull off The Sims, the Movie would be as a comedy with things like that, and highlighting some of the more absurd parts of the game.
And how sadistic are you people. Locking people in rooms to starve to death? That makes me sad.

Oh come on, like you never tried it 10 or 20 times?

the tetris movie idea already sounds better...

Expect to see many a fire springing from people attempting to make simple meals in this film. Incidentally, I tend to use my power in the Sims to burn other people's families, although the only part of the Sims I ever found vaguely interesting was building houses :/

"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it,"
Umm... has he ever even played the game? You don't have infinite power, you just live your life and biuld a house.

What? Justin has never heard of the Japanese movies "A Taxing Woman" and "A Taxing Woman Returns"?
No, seriously, a pair of movies about a tax agent and tax collection. They're critically acclaimed and everything.
After "Adaptation" turned out to be a movie that worked, I've just decided to not worry about weird-sounding concepts until they hit the screen. But this is not the high concept I would bet on...

he says its about absolute power and control... so is it about a guy PLAYING the sims? and if it is, i'll bet the film ends with the audience learning that hte guy playing the sims and controlling all these characters is actually being played by somone as well. It will be a twist enging the likes of which Hitchcock has never seen!
Seriously though, why? Why make a movie based on a video game with no story? It would be a hell of a lot cheaper if they just made a movie about controlling things, and not spend the money on an IP. I'm sure good old will wright wouldnt have sued them. he seems like a nice guy.

Its gonna be a chick-flick. Sims is a chick game, but considering that FOX got the rights, it will probably be sadistic cartoon porn, I am sorry to say.

I've known Brian Lynch (screenwriter of The Sims Movie) for a few years. He's one of the funniest guys I've ever met (and Scary Movie 3 had like 8 different writers, Justin...), plus he's awesome at storytelling. If this movie has to be put to screen, Brian is the one I'd want to be writing it. Dude has creativity in every pore of his being.
What the other people involved in the movie do will ultimately affect the outcome obviously, but I know Brian will turn in a damn good script.
