We were taken aback (in a good way) when news trickled in that the Xbox Live hit Geometry Wars was making its way to the Wii and DS. CVG and GameSpot were surprised, so they got in touch with Roger Carpenter, senior producer for Geometry Wars: Galaxies, to get the scoop on the announcement.
The first big question on our minds: how will dual analog controls translate to the stylus/Wiimote? Carpenter says not to worry. Early tests with the remote/nunchuk combination were very promising, and n00bs managed to rack up respectable scores with ease. We're assuming the analog stick will move the ship and a hearty Wii remote jerk will fire the weapon. And touch screen control should be a snap: move with the d-pad, fire by tapping the screen.
The next item of interest is the announced single-player campaign mode, something we would have never imagined for the coin-munching arcade style of Geometry Wars. Carpenter promises a more "varied and structured game" complete with galaxies, solar systems, and planets ripe for exploration. You'll need to plan battle tactics and scrounge up currency as well.
Along with the robust single-player mode, Galaxies will also offer online multiplayer modes for both games. Look for the titles to hit sometime this holiday season.

Anyone who pays $50 for a downgraded (graphics, controls, etc) $5 xbl game is a chump... sorta like paying $5 for a web browser in 2007.

Sigh... Where does it read that this game will be 50$? There's been rumors of a XBLA-like channel for the Wii, this game will probably be downloadable from there. I think the price will be 10$ because there's more content than in the 360 version.

I would think the remote would be used to move around while the nunchuck would be used for shooting.

I agree that paying $40-$50 for this on the Wii is a little extreme. But I doubt the graphics would be downgraded. It's not like they're photorealistic 3D renderings or something.

Wow, IVP... troll much?
There is no way you can honestly believe that the Wii can't handle the effects in this game. And if you do... well... you're an idiot, and you need to leave this planet.
The controls, on the other hand, could be either way. As we don't yet know how it controls, you come off as very ignorant by claiming they are downgraded.
As for the game itself... having owned it on 360 before that thing crapped out on me I didn't really get when the buzz was all about. It was fun, sure, but not FUN. Maybe with some added content I will feel like I have a purpose to destroying wave after wave of mindless shapes.
BTW I was never any good at it, so maybe that's my problem.

And yeah, the poster seems to have no knowledge of this game before getting assigned this post. Both of the control schemes he thought of would be completly idiotic. In GW you need a constant stream of bullest flying, so jerking or tapping would make the game unplayable. Im assuming you would just point and click like the tank game on Wii Play.

my only concern for the ds one is wouldn't your hand block your ability to see enemies?im sure it all works well in the beginning but once u get to 200k your gonna need to see everything.unless they're gonna show the action on top screen >.>
the wii one sounds awkward for a game that requires quick reflexes cant wait to see it in action.

Wii/DS would be terrible for the game. Neither one will be able to duplicate the wicked gravity bending and fireworks effects which make it so much fun to watch when the scores get up into the 250,000+ range.
Furthermore, I played a GW clone on the PC using a mouse to aim my shots...terrible, just terrible.
One of the posters mentioned he didn't really get the GW buzz. I reccomend getting up into the higher scores (say, half-million and greater). Once you get into that range there is no limit to the ammount of fun and dare I say it...adrenaline that you get from this game. A blast at 5 bucks.

My highest score is about 1.9 million. I don't know if the Wiimote or the stylus would work with this game.

Move with the analog, aim with the remote. Just like the tank game in Wii Play or the upcoming Alien Syndrome game. Smash TV style. And even though this game looks pretty, it plays like classic arcade madness. It would be fun in black and white. Czech out www.spheresofchaos.com to play a free game in the same style. It's like Asteroids on acid.

I just love the spin people are putting on this news! It's absolutely fantastic!
A downgraded version of Geometry Wars, yeah, sure. We all know that the XBLA version pushed the 360 hardware to the moon and back. I'm surprised the 360 was able to pull that game off without the awesome power of DX10! Pffft!
The controls WILL NOT WORK! I know this because I've sat down and actually played an advance demo of the games... in my own head. I don't see why anyone could have possibly thought that free-aiming with a pointer would be a good idea! Heavens no! I'm going to completely ignore the statement that reads how early tests with the titles yielded scores on par or even greater than its XBLA cousin. That kind of evidence would surely throw a wrench in my baseless argument.
A straight port of an XBLA title? It better not be more than $5 or I'm walking! I mean seriously! All that added value isn't worth squat! Straight conversions of Retro and Evolved, plus several multiplayer modes, plus an extensive single-player campaign, plus new weapons and enemies, plus game-sharing to the DS from another DS or a Wii if one person doesn't own the game? What's that? And all the online leaderboards from the XBLA version are here, plus more for all the new gameplay modes? Surely all that value can't be worth more than a few extra pennies!

I think it's pretty well established that the Wii/DS version won't be anything at all like the 360 version. I mean, Geometry Wars is planned for mobile phones, right?
The bottom line is that they're calling it "Geometry Wars" to cash in on the success of the 360 version. The version for the Wii sounds like an entirely different game. Plus, the 360 version was all about weaving, blasting action. The Wii version sounds like it's going to have a lot of stupid fluff added.
NOT the same game. Period.

8. with the user base of the DS compared to that of the PSP, why not a PSP version?
I can't imagine this being worthwhile on the DS at all.
Have you fucking read the weekly japenese sales charts? and you say they should make a PSP version baecause of " userbase size"? P.S.

Yeah, co-op, multi-player, extended campaigns, expanded game modes and such features that you would wet yourself over if applied to your favorite games becomes "stupid fluff" when it's applied to a wii/DS port. And I'm glad all the fun is being taken out of the game for the wii/DS, I mean after all, you would know way better than the actual developers of the games, right?
Seriously, while I'm glad people have loyalty towards their own consoles, this whole shitting all over the wii because your console's becoming increasingly less relevant in the market is just getting a bit sad. Maybe if you actually focused a little more on having fun gaming instead of whining about how other people's consoles suck, people might actually pick up the good vibe and become more interested in what you're playing.
Just a thought, kids.

Like you and all annoying self-justified Ninhuggers were ever interested on what OTHER gamers played.

I think whoever wanted GW to be ported had permanent head damage of some sorts. An intense game and you get to use 2 of the most physically dependent controls in the game world ever? The 360 controller's analogs are so trusty that you'd be blaming planning, not reflexes or the controller for deaths. I can't say so for the Wii, whose motion is gonna screw players if inaccurate.
And with all that many enemies, all that much confusion... wait, who are you controlling in MP again? BOOM! 1 life gone.
The clutter confusion is already unbearable in 720p, lets see how they scratch their heads in 720*480, and the DS screen!
Campaign, with every simillar puzzle game (normal arcade games have stories behind 'em though mostly lame, GW doesn't so it's more in line with a puzzle game in terms of structure) is gonna be forgettable.
Speaking of Nintendo consoles, this is gonna be dumbed down for kiddos so they can break a million without a sweat, no doubt.
Pretty much lots of fluff. GW as a fat woman =no-no.

Mikeo, I'd be surprised if right at this minute, there isn't a higher percentage of Xbox 360s being played by 12-year-olds than of Wiis being played by 22-year-olds. The Nintendo 'kiddie' argument is one of the worst reasons you can possibly come up with to criticise Nintendo. At least the other fanboys can come up with slightly more original stupid reasons like "omgz 500 Pokemon sequels" or "omg no Zelda voices omgomg".

I'm a big fan of the game, but I honestly don't see it working out well on either system (and I own both of them).
The dual analog stick controls worked perfect, and I just don't see it working well with either the wii or DS controls. Another downside I have are the small screen size of the DS - I have a 50" tv and find it hard to keep track of all the enemies on the 360, trying to do the same on a 2" screen (while controlling/firing from your ship) has got to be difficult. The graphics downgrade (from 1080i to 480i/480p on the wii) will also be a bit disappointing as the game (although basic) looks incredible in high def.
If the wii version is a cheap download, go for it. The DS version would have to be cartridge based though, which brings a higher price tag to the purchase.

@Mike
What you described is not a graphics downgrade but a resolution downgrade. I've played the XBLA game on a standard def television and, let me tell ya, I lost nuthin' in the translation.
From the stuff I read on this site, it's like there is no possible way, NONE whatsoever, for ANY game that appears in some shape or form on another console to EVER perform well on the Wii. I bet if the Wii started giving away free blowjobs then you people would complain about the shade of lipstick left on your dipsticks.

Why would a 360 owner be mad at this? I mean, they're getting shafted slightly by the awesome new features they didn't get, but that's it. You nerds are just as bad as the Sony fans who wrote that petition to Capcom for letting Devil May Cry 4 come out on the 360. What's the deal?

I don't own a 360. I've only played Geometry Wars. The point is that the Wii version is going to be a different game than the 360 version, so all this nonsense about remapping the gamepad controls to the Wii remote is pretty worthless.
Shitting on the Wii, indeed.

The main game is going to be different, but the XBLA game is going to be ported in full. Did you read that, or did you conveniently ignore that nugget of information for your baseless argument?

If this does become a downloadable game then it will probably use the Wii classic controller...that has 2 analogue sticks, so it'd control just as good as the 360 controller!
I've been hoping for ages that there'd be a wii version of GW cos i don't wanna buy a 360 that'd red ring of death me just for this game...most of the others don't interest me.
I'm sure the DS version would be great also. I just want Boom boom rocket now!
