Wow you guys truly are retarded....seriously you can't even address any of the valid points I made. But of course what else is to be expect of dumbass 14 year olds.

And your opinion about Live is your opinion. I know I'm not going to be one of those people who leaves matches early or uses racism to fuck with peoples mind. Thats beneath me.

Bottom line is you can't defend Nintendo's decision this time. And if you have to resort to falsely accusing me of longing for little kids then you truly are pathetic. I know who and what I am and its definitely nothing illegal or disgusting like that. Really the things that I read on this website are beyond insane.

You need to have a 12-digit Friend code for Wii online. You need to have a 16-digit credit card number and hand over double digits of dollars to play Live and form a Complete Online Identity™ that makes it stupidly easy for anyone to track you down.

I think it's a good idea to only allow voice chatting with people you've authorized, as opposed to random strangers.
Xbox Live is exactly why voice chatting with strangers generally sucks.

It should, however, be a standard feature that allows you to easily add strangers to your Friend's List.

So I don't think JonnyBoy is really wrong, at least on some points.
You really can't defend Friend Codes. You can make them suck less, but it's still a pain in the ass. It'd be much much MUCH easier to use, say...oh, I dunno...a USER NAME instead of a 12/16 digit code.
Beyond that, the human brain starts to generally crap out when you start asking people to remember more than 10 digits, if memory serves.

Oh and dissing people for the way they talk and/or spelling/grammar is bad form.

JonnyBoy, you can't use voice chat to talk to strangers before joining matches, that's your big gripe, right? But consider this: the Wii doesn't come with a microphone (not many people would use it and it would drive up cost), so most people wouldn't be able to chat with you anyway.

If your problem is different or you have other problems, explain them clearly so we can discuss it.

A Universal Friend Code is all that matters. The reason Friend Codes were so annoying was because of the "one code per game" deal with the DS. This is definitely good news.

@ samfish above:
Actually, according to psychologists, the average human brain can't remember any string of numbers longer than 7 digits, so, yes, a 12 digit code would be a pain in the ass to remember.

You think phone numbers (minus the area code) are coincidentally 7 digits long?

JonnyBoy2U: I kind of agree with you. I'd like to be able to talk to the people I'm playing with too...I think. But seeing how you and other people on the Internet use "grown folk's language" so frivolously, I'm starting to second guess that desire.

As for "[addressing] any of the valid points [you] made," the only thing you said between calling people names and diminishing the impact of curse words is that Nintendo should give us options. The problem with that is that, on smaller games, that has a tendency to divide the audience. Then, when you actually want to just get online and play a quick match or two, you can't find anyone because everyone is split off into their own little area. See Clubhouse Games.

Personally, I want to see Nintendo introduce, at the very least, the ability to add someone after playing a good match with them and to communicate with your friends via voice chat. Nintendo won't do it, though, and no amount of complaining will convince them. I hate to have that attitude, but I think it's true.

Comparing friend codes to telephone numbers is silly. Friend codes change with every game you have. You have the same telephone number no matter what. A fairer comparison would be having a different phone number for every conversation you have with your friend. Or something like that.

Though this Mii code stuff is interesting...but "How are we going to add friends?" is a good question.

@ BPM.
You see them as your "phone number, my grandma's phone number, and a few friends' phone numbers, INCLUDING area codes."

If you were told to remember all of those numbers put together as ONE number associated with one thing, I doubt you will be close to remembering it...

And besides, I said "average" human brain. I doubt anyone on here remembers exactly 7 maximum digits... Some will be able to remember 4... Some 10... some 50... The key is the word "average"...

@ Seroth
But if this whole "One friend code per Mii" is true, then your argument about having a friend code per game becomes insignificant... It becomes EXACTLY like a phone number in that case... You have a Wii, the home phone number, and all the Miis, each individual's cell phone number...

But my point in the whole phone number thing was that it is one of the products of psychologists' findings of the 7-digit-memory capacity of an average human brain... Just to compare it with a 12 digit friend code. Nothing more...

Usernames require registration. I'm sure you all know how much of a pain it is when someone nabs yours.

To be honest, anyone who treats this as more than a minor annoyance needs to have a word with the head shrinkers. It's really a non-issue. How about focusing on the fact that Nintendo went online seven months after launch, as opposed to 12 months it took Microsoft, that the service is free and easy to use for everyone except complete drooling morons who don't know how to write down twelve numbers (JonnyBoy2U?)?

Why are you assuming the worst for Brawl?

Do you honestly think Nintendo doesn't do their research or at least work hard to make the main game as well as the online component very fun?

How do you even know whether or not those options aren't in the game? - If you do show me proof linking to a credible source.

Do you really even like Nintendo? - If not stop posting things related to Wii. It doesn't help.

I could easily make a Mii that looks EXACTLY like a random person, take their name and pretty much become them.

Now another question. Say if there was ever an online shooter for the Wii that actually have 10-16 players, How would you be able to recognise your friend even if you have added them?

Because most likely you'll be seeing two names on screen.

I'm sure Nintendo will have a way to show that is my friend I have added with a little icon or something.

Well, I guess this can only be good news.

I won't pretend I'm the greatest fan of friend codes, but if it is true that you only have to enter them once to use them in every game then it's not too bad.

At least online play on the wii is free, I think that counteracts the annoyances of friend codes.

Dont see how anybody can say this is anything other than great news which puts to rest many's fears of code per game play. From what I've heard about strikers it offers a solid online experience which is made all the better by being completely free.

I actually bought Strikers yesterday but the dude I purchased my Wii from seems to have entered a PIN which prevents me from doing anything online. Think there's a number I can call to get it reset but am afraid they might want proof of purchase.

Any thoughts?

I don't get why people are bitching. If the friend codes are tied to your Mii and you can select which Mii you want to use, then where are you inputting Friend Codes? From my understanding just select the Mii you want to represent your gamefile (for stats and what not) and be done with it.

@14 your cell phone analogy is dead on. plus, since you are entering numbers (12 digits, 10 characters) instead of misspelled and usually long and offensive usernames (as many digits as possible, and at least 26 characters) with the remote, it will be easier and quicker to enter.

but then you can't call up billy and tell him "check out my cool user name, it says U_SUXX! so awesome.". on the other hand, you can tell him to check out your mii. not as hostile as you would like, but also not offensive (that is, unless it actually looks like you...)

@ Steve

I think they would share the same code otherwise it would be impossible to play online co-op(on 1 Wii) without one person having to create a new Mii which would make earning stats pointless for that player.

This will mean that you'd have to trust your friends not to go online with your Mii and wreck your stats but they're on your friends list for a reason, right?

I definately think N's making progress with their online implementation and the future looks promising. Hopefully they'll see the popularity of online gaming and really start pushing it over the next year or so.

Wow lots of misinformation. I guess none of you have played metroid prime hunters.

As long as the person added your code to his list before and after the game (i guess due to the ds's horse pwoer) you can talk to them via the wiis built in mic.

So the wii most likely is capable of letting you talk to your friends who added ur friend code via mic also.

Then add this new info of a friend code for each mii not game and for a free online system there should be no complaints.

keep in mind random ranked matches require no friend codes at all.
