Its not communisms fault, its the fault of those in power. Communism in theory is a great idea, it has simply never been properly implemented. China's current is not true to communism.

This is BS, and China has done so much to repress games and the Intertubes in general. God help you if you want to start a blog there.

Without further reports, I wouldn't jump the gun and say the company is innocent and the government is evil.

This article is blatantly biased (as any article about the Chinese government tends to be).
I mean, use some common sense people! A national government taking a small corporation's funds for no reason? "Government wants a piece of the action?" Come on now.

With that said, I agree that the way they treat the employees is very wrong, but without further reports\proves, I would look at this matter in a more subjective manner.

If one is going to reference another article then present conjecture, the least one can do is link to TFA - it's at http://www.insertcredit.com/archives/001795.html

Do us all a favor and report facts not wild conjecture. If there are no facts to be had, point us to the source and let us form our own opinions rather than presenting a conjecture driven summary of the original article.

Getting the text of the original email would be great, tracking down Anndy Wang (original person emailing apparently) to confirm the story would be great, and even consider contacting Firstsing at one of the methods at http://www.firstsing.com/misc_Contact.htm and see what they have to say.

Does this look like CNN to you, bitch? jk.. kinda

This is a blog. It has no responsibility to report an unbiased article because they aren't reporters and getting your "news" from a site like this is like forming your political opinion off a South Park episode. So if you want to be a tardland, go for it. But at least realize what you're ranting on.

Jon, your post is very confusing. I'd like to point some parts out:

1 - China was communist to the tune of the USSR all the way up until the early 90s. China *was* hardline Soviet-style communist for a very long time. Capitalist China came about relatively recently.

2 - "Hello Darfur"? Now you're just spreading FUD. China has a lot of issues with corruption, but comparing it to ethnic cleansing and genocide is just going way off the deep end.

Keep in mind that this is likely the actions of a local municipal government acting with the support of rogue police, not an official national or even provincial government-sanctioned action. Unfortunately in many parts of China local government is extremely corrupt and there is little oversight from the provincial or national level.

First off, stop calling China Communist. (It's not and I will explain later.)

Communism is a great idea? Why don't we ask the Russians about that? China is not a communistic country. (It's a Totalitarian Social Goverment.) It can't be by the defintion of Communism. It is run by an equal party that listens to their people. It's not one powerful group controlling a population. You can Never have communism in the human world. One: It isn't a goverment idea! (The Russian misinterpeted Karl Marks book. So did the world.) Karl Marks idea was a social idea, of people helping other people, not all going out for themselves. He mentioned nothing about having a goverment control all things. (It would make one or a few have more power then everyone else, which is the oppisite of communism.) Second: Humans, no matter what, always have a desire of power.

Now that I'm done with that, here's my thoughts...

For China being a more Capitalist look toward business. This is pretty sad.

"Calling an entire country trash basing on one biased article."

Don't agree on the calling the country trash. Like you said, but Biased article? So I guess those leaked news of Churnobol in the 70's were biased reports too. You know about the plant having a meltdown. I trust news reports more then I trust a goverment in which forces media to change their reports to good things. Biased? That's funny to defend a goverment that is manipulating problems into a biase idea.

@Bill Nye

No it's not Communisms fault, its it's way of working in the world. The idea that a group of people having control on something is retarded. I just says here, were going to trust you to rule this peaceful, which never happens. That's why it's dumb to ever think about having a country turn communist.

@MG Midget

Ok? That makes since. Hmmm facts to support this claim. Let's see how can we get facts if the goverment stops the facts from coming out? So let me guess because we don't have the facts we can't say it was the chinese goverment? Wow, playing into the ideas on the goverment. They're glad to see you fell for it. Facts or no facts, if russia use to do it before china that just tells you they are doing it. I mean at least when Russia had their revolt to turn more democratic they let it happen and not kill people that were just expressing their opinion.

communism will never work; as a previous poster stated, the lack of humanity's greed in the communist equation is where it will always fail. who is willing to attend 4-6 years of college and receive a doctorate in this or that; only to be paid the same as a farmer, or retail clerk? aside from that, many of you must not have read the full iteration of h.res 153 (patriot act). if you access the library of congress, you will see that 100 hours of captivity is nothing compared to what the united states government is capable of if they fully abused the power given them. being detained for an indeterminate amount of time with no access to any form of legal counsel? sounds like the chinese government if being lenient in their detention of these employees...this time at least. no form of government works, as all are biased, corrupt theocracies.

lol, I love how the whole post has erupted into debate.

I think the underlying issue to this post isn't anything game-related or electronics-related... it's an insight into the mystery of what type of government China really has. Is it a future US or a future USSR? Currently, it's looking like a fusion of both.

btw, I'd like to add that I've been to China, and the autoritarian element is quite eerie... Like you can't go onto certain websites, like wikipedia, and you can't talk about Tibet or Taiwan except in private with other travellers. Also, the lonelyplanet guide isn't allowed, and if they catch you with it at the border, it gets confiscated! According to a policeman I asked about it, it contains 'lies' about Tibet and Taiwan.

From a westerner's perspective, it's sort of good... I dont' see how China can be a long-term competitor to the West if it pulls stuff like this off all the time.

Jon, that's communism.

If you remember, Russia was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. That didn't make it any less communist. They celebrated Leninism and Marxism...

Cuba, China and North Korea still believe in (and practice) Maoism, Stalinism, and Marxism. That makes them nothing short of communists. And now, even Venezula is trying jumping into the forray, as well.

Any country beginning with "Peoples Republic of...." is a socialist/communist nation.

"Any country beginning with "Peoples Republic of...." is a socialist/communist nation."

LOL, if only it were that simple, but generally those countries are 'communist'...
Like:

Lao People's Democratic Republic
People's Republic of China
Socialist Republic of Vietnam
Democratic People's Republic of Korea
Republic of Cuba

I think those are widely considered to be the 5 remaining 'communist' nations. When you go there, you see hammers and sickles everywhere (esp in Laos and Vietnam, didn't see many in China).

BUT... they have losened up a lot, and lenin would probably turn in his grave at what vietnam etc. calls 'communism'.

So basically, you guys' argument is pointless, because its not as simple as either of you are trying to portray it.

@potato, you mentioned that China followed Soviet 'style Communism', which is true (Mao developed a spin-off doctrine of Marxism based on Lenin's interpretation of Marxism). There hasn't been a country that adopted true Marxism, and frankly it would never work. In theory Marxism is great, but that's only in theory. Of all the countries that tried to adopt Marxism, I only see Cuba as the one who has most success but even they embrace capitalism.

And there is nothing wrong with linking China to Darfur.

I don't quite get what you are trying to say here, but I can tell you that I am by no way trying to "defend a government" here. I am just disappointed to see how people would look down to the entire nation and its people when a local government (not even national) does something drastic.

Let me enlighten some of you communist sympathizers. There is a good ol' quote that will give you an understanding why communist states turn capitalistic partially.

"A capitalist will sell you the rope to hang him with" -- Lenin

Instead in our day and age they are now manufacturing the ropes in which to hang us. Look around at all the Chinese manufacturing which is an attempt to drain our economy and short change the American middle-class. These vague attempts at capatilsm are put forth to fool idiotic, nationless, internationalistic, buisness men and women who could care less about America.

Read Sun Tzu's The Art of War, the Communist Manifesto, and look into the teachings of Mao to get an idea of what they are willing to do.

What they are doing in this case is not much different than what they did when Mao said to "Let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools of thought contend." in which he then cut those flowers down who opposed his views...

Think about it.

In their rush to jump into the tempting, and totally capitalist ecomony of china, whata lot of companies (foriegn and domestic) seem to forget is that while the economy is capitalist.. the government is a dictatorship.

So, if they decide they want your stuff, they will take it.. no matter what.

I've heard a few horror stories of foriegn investors in china who've been successful, a nd then suddenly found that all their profits and possesions had been taken away.

Heh, we made it 4 whole posts before somebody managed to chime in from The Land of Make-Believe. Seriously, it astounds me the people that defend communism and socialism in the face of overwhelming empirical evidence of abject failure. Sure, every major "successful" Communist government has killed millions of its own people, and the vast majority of its citizens lived in relative poverty, but hey, it works on paper! Wow.

And China isn't *strictly* Communist, since there exists some level of respect for private contracts, and government doesn't own *all* the means of production, just some of them. They're a partially open (capitalist), partially communist economy, and IIRC they have "democratic" elections (with one party on the ticket ;-) so effectively they're a perpetuated dictatorship.

Anyway, yeah, scary shit about how the government can basically do what they want, but we're slowly putting human rights pressure on them economically. I just wish it would work a bit faster.
