Surprise ruined: Fallout 3 countdown is for teaser trailer

Remember all the joy you had speculating over Blizzard's countdown to Starcraft II? Were you heartbroken when Nintendo Power revealed what the Smash Bros. site would change before their clock went to zero?

Bethesda VP of Public Relations and Marketing Pete Hines dropped a spoiler in our mailbox this morning: a Fallout 3 teaser trailer will be released next week, coinciding with the end of the countdown. Given the capitalized text that says TEASER next to do the countdown, we think it's safe to assume that this is the focal point of next week's revelations.

"But why?" you may cry, "why Joystiq, why did you ruin the anticipation and not at least put spoiler alert in bold letters to give us a warning?" Because we're the party pooper, that's why. Now run along and enjoy the concept art they've released over the past few weeks. Having a Liam Neeson film on in the background helps, too.

Tired, worn out and overused people 3D models with "realistic" real world post apocalyptic graphics... Feh! What ever happened to the original Fallout art style I knew and loved?

if you look at the page it says "TEASER" right beside the count down...

PS: I dind't mean they had too keep the engine style, 3D first person can work fine, but they at least need to keep the cartoony retro charm instead of gritty and real

Loving the concept art coming out of this at the moment, more games should release concept art, some of it is just awesome

That's just concept art. Check back in a week.

It's not really even concept art. The artist, Craig Mullins, stated on NMA that he created the pictures for Bethesda after they commissioned him to do so over a year ago. He wasn't even familiar with Fallout... they just asked for post-apocalyptic artwork with whatever specifics (a beached tanker, shots of the capital, etc).

According to one of the Bethsoft developers, there are hundreds of pieces of "concept art" created by in-house artists that they are using to design the game with... these are just pretty PA pictures.

Oh, and... it's going to fucking suck. It's going to be Oblivion with Guns. The console kiddos are gonna love it.

I'd suggest you not buy a copy when it comes out then. Btw, when did you get to play a preview build? Or are you just making wild guesses like all the other fallout purists?

So if we're making wild guesses based on the games that Bethesda's made in the past, even though I'm not a purist, can I make one too? I'm going to guess it'll be a drag-racing title, or perhaps horse racing. I can see it now: Fallout 3 - Breeder's Cup.

as long as said teaser says what game type it is and some working game footage so I can add it to the ban list and I will be happy.

Sorry if I take offense to a company shitting all over a franchise I loved. 10 years is a long time to foster hate and Bethesda isn't stupid. They knew what they were getting in to.

Better Fallout to remain dead and other post-apocalyptic romps to take place than this; the reanimation and whoring out of her bloated, smelly corpse.

Maybe next time a company will fuck with something you were passionate and cared about.

I understand being a little uneasy and upset that such drastic changes may be taking place in a franchise you love. However, you can at least give it a chance. Rent it. If you hate it, take it back and stew and sulk all you want. But you never know, maybe you'll enjoy what Bethesda does with it. And in all reality, you have no clue yet WHAT they're going to do with it. So just cool the premature bashing for a while, OK?

I find it entertaining everyone assumes it will be Oblivion with guns. I don't recall Bethesda ever saying that is what Fallout 3 will be.

I think you're asking way too much of poor little Miles. You see, in his vacant head, Fallout has been shitted on and fucked by "some company" a full week before the world has even seen the "teaser". He is far wiser than us and knows F3 will be a disc-shaped piece of poo.

I don't think miles or anyone else is going to have to worry about renting this one. The overwhelming majority of people who will be reviewing this game professionally are going to know exactly what the hardcore Fallout fan wants, because they are too.

We'll see what happens. Seems like it's a bit early to get all hot under the collar about this one anyway. Don't expect to see Fallout 3 to come out for a long time yet.

LOL... I love the first two Fallout games, and I'm really looking forward to this third installment. Miles, you have NO IDEA whether Bethesda's shit all over it. Why not wait until more information is available - like even a teaser trailer - before passing such judgment?

What is comming out that could top Fallout? Nothing. Fallout will follow in Oblivion footsteps with great quality AND quantity!

You beth apologists are reacting as badly as Fallout fans, just as willing to assume it will be great without any concrete knowledge of the game as they are to assume it will suck as badly as Oblivion.

The funniest part about this whole thread is that I probably DO know more about Fallout 3 than most of you baby haters.

Go on and suck this one down though, as even the driving force behind Black Isle is apparently ready to shift to MMO-esque RPGs instead of the traditional western RPGs we know and love. You all should be ashamed for willingly accepting this tripe.
