Sony keeps making it easier for me not to get a PSP. Just put LocoRoco and Daxter on PS2 and my 169.99 will be safe forever.

Then you must be a man of patience. Waited for 18 months and SF is finally out on PS2. I'm truly happy for you.

I didn't buy my own PSP, was a gift. So it doesn't bother me much. Especially since the PSP does have the 'exclusive' MGS: Portable Ops. But the system is fairing pretty badly, I rarely use it anymore other than for the mods.

Whatever though. PSP did alright, may it live on and remain a somewhat viable console.

@kingofwale

Yes. I am very patient. I waited for Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories and I saved a lot of money by doing so. Cash money is a very good motivator.

Syphon Filter was a phenomonal franchise on PS1 but completely died on PS2. i remember looking forward to seeing a GOOD Sypon Filter on PS2 and never got it.

now? to say its too late is an overstatement. they should be revamping all the assets and put it on PS3. damn install base...

Matthew, If you want to experience what makes this game great you need to play it on the platform it was designed to be played on, and that is the PSP. This PS2 variant is merely a sampler of the kind of stuff you are missing out on by not having a PSP.

You should realise that this game is coming out at the same time as the next PSP game, Logan's Shadow. I doubt that anyone would have got a PSP for Dark Mirror when they can get the next game
Anyway, this is an incredible game, and I recommend you get it, whether it be on PS2 or PSP

And Joystiq forgets to mention that the new PSP Syphon Filter game will be out at the same time too!

So while the PS2 gets the port of an old game, the PSP gets a new one.

Well, PS2 at least has a second ANALOG STICK so it should be improved by 1,000x

Wait, this is news? This was on their website over two months ago (when I was ranting about how PS2 isn't dead). I mean... check EBgames website right now and you'll discover that Warhawk not only has a more reasonable release date (previously, it was january 2008) but it's also been dropped by $20 to $39.99. Makes you wonder if they have a price nobody else has.

Meanwhile... I'm still having a blast with the beta. Seriously, most expansive beta I've ever done on a console.

"This PS2 variant is merely a sampler of the kind of stuff you are missing out on by not having a PSP."

So I am missing out if I play this game on the ps2 and not psp? How so? I just assumed better controls and the ability to play on a big TV inherently made the ps2 version better. Is there anything that gives the psp an advantage over the ps2 version?

hey... I think I blew you up a couple times the first night out...
Definitely good times, I'm looking forward to the full title. I need to get more time in on it; too much work, not enough play this last weekend.

"hey... I think I blew you up a couple times the first night out..."

I do recall a mccomber had some wicked lockons and my response being "somebody from Joystiq killed me." I've gotten better with the hawks but my strength still lies with the tanks and on foot. Amazing how powerful flaks are though. And more importantly, amazing how many people are utterly dependant on the hawks.

Scoring system is kinda weird though. Also, unless the number is 4, the lowend goal limits are far too high. Friday night, I logged in with three of my frinds (yes, you can do four player splitscreen online) and a blast was had by all. A definate must buy for myself as well.

That is a very bad presumption.

"That is a very bad presumption."

That doesn't really answer my question but rather confuses me more. Why is it a bad presumption? From my experience, gamers commonly prefer the console controller to the psp control layout.

I still think the ps2 version will be the more worthwhile than the psp original. After reading your comments, I am still curious if the psp version will have any significant advantages to make me think otherwise. I don't see any advantages the psp could have unless the ps2 simply got a bad port job. I don't own a psp and have little experience with the system so bare with me.

I think you need to first educate yourself on the PSP and its uniqueness, the system itself has a lot of functionality that is nonexistent on a PS2. Once you've done that, you should then educate yourself on the PSP version of this title as it took advantage of nearly all of the systems unique features. Dual analogues were neither required or needed as the game was not designed for them, and these gamers you say prefer two are both speaking subjectively and out of context.

Um, what uniqueness? It has wifi but other than that I'm not sure what you mean by "functionality that is nonexistent on a PS2". I haven't got to play my copy of Dark Mirror a lot, but I doubt second analog stick would be a step down from aiming with face buttons.

I'd be more concerned about how much they're going to pretty up the graphics.

That was a pretty BS answer, required. Care to give a better one then "Buy 'em both, but love the original"?

"It has wifi but other than that I'm not sure what you mean"

as I said, educate YOURSELF about the PSP

"Buy 'em both, but love the original"

I never suggested that or anything like that

No, you didn't say much of anything. Is he supposed to just intuit the knowledge, or would you care to actually tell him what he supposedly needs to know?

"...the system itself has a lot of functionality that is nonexistent on a PS2."

Besides wifi, what functionality? I don't think the lack of a 2nd analog stick qualifies as unique functionality.

"as I said, educate YOURSELF about the PSP"

That's the problem. It would seem nobody knows these "unique features" besides you. Enlighten me.

Dark Mirror was absolutely fantastic until the final boss battle, where it started bitching on me and simply refused to let me switch weapons for some time after I've electrocuted Singularity. And that, as anyone, who played the game knows, was one hell of a critial bug, because you HAD to use electricity on the boss to disable his armor for a short period of time, and THEN - shoot him.
I beat him after all, but it took twice the time it would under normal surcumstances. And thrice the swearing.
