The most impressive Mario cake ... EVER
Su-Yin from The Journal of a Girl who Loves To Cook has crafted the most breathtaking Mario cake we've ever seen. The inspiration came when a friend spotted the Super Mario wedding cake and said "Su Yin could do better than that!". So ... she did. As with any serious art project, the design began with a sketch and took several days to complete. The results, as you can see, are beyond stunning. Check out the gallery below and marvel at Su-Yin's ability to blend food, art, and geekery into one delicious dessert.

Cake knife to the head and fork in the eyes... or leave outdoors and let some sugar ants destroy mario.
hmmm...
Artimus @ May 29th 2007 4:57PM
I'd like it better if it looked more like the official Mario.
The giant wedding cake with the little bride and groom Peach and Mario was far more impressive.

I agree the wedding cake worked much better.

I don't care!!! MORE GAME NEWS LESS FLUFF!

What exactly is Mario coming out of? The sky? I agree with the commenters above - Well done, but the third party Mario and dull colors make the wedding cake a bit more impressive.
Imadogg99 @ May 29th 2007 5:30PM
Well it looks like some claymation version of Mario.
Haha I wanna eat a Goomba
Diskoboy @ May 29th 2007 5:43PM
Hey people - there are other video game characters you can make cakes out of, other than Mario.
How 'bout a Dig Dug or Mr. Do cake?
Chris Kuhlman @ May 29th 2007 5:45PM
Liked the wedding cake much better
lolo @ May 29th 2007 5:51PM
this cake is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the wedding one! its waaay more realistic and impressive, YAY! great job
yanamal @ May 29th 2007 6:08PM
look at the sketch, he looks much more "official" there. I imagine that with CAKE(and icing) as the constructions material, making a round head and smaller cap is much less... impossible than Mario's actual head shape.
I like the level that goes around the edge of the cake.
Thierry @ May 29th 2007 6:25PM
The attention to details is very good, I like how a sketch of the cake was made before actually implementing it.
BPM @ May 29th 2007 6:38PM
I HUNGER
EclipseCDN @ May 29th 2007 7:26PM
I'm sick of seeing mario. make a cake of something else.

I hope you're joking.
Most. Awesome. Thing. Ever.
I WANT CAKE!
Megaqwerty @ May 29th 2007 8:47PM
Claymation indeed: the thing looks like something right out of Moral Orel...

Has the entire readership of Joystiq suddenly been replaced by a bunch of nitpicky nitwits? This is ridiculous.
Nick James @ May 29th 2007 10:02PM
And for the record, this cake is badass.

I was thinking this same thing. They can't just think this cake is cool and appreciate the work the artist put into it. They have to pick it apart like starving hyenas.
Slaziman @ May 29th 2007 11:14PM
I hate reports on game cakes, they make me soooo hungry

Su-Yin, my hat's off to you. That's one incredible Mario cake; I'm really impressed. Nintendo must always be happy when stuff like this pops up. Great job; keep it up.
cichlid60 @ May 30th 2007 1:13AM
I too agree. I feel the wedding cake does indeed work better, but the fact that she attempted a freestanding Mario is a lot more risky, ambitious, and probably a lot more difficult. The left arm bothers me a bit, and in the sketch it looks as though the thumb is on the wrong side of the hand, and the spelling of "goomba" I believe is incorrect. Makes you wonder if shes is even fan, if not it is even more impressive.

All original. No plastic pieces. Freakin' awesome.
