Nah uh! Is that what a beta means? Seriously people reserve your judgement for the final product. After that bitch your hearts out if it is bad.

@Einhanderkiller - You've got to be kidding me.

Anyway, good to have this confirmed (again). Completely agree with the last sentence but I can't really complain about the access to game content when I can play the beta.
I'll be hurting for my Halo fix when that ends.

*This is not too many Halo stories*

This is your opportunity, sheppy. Skip this topic and read something else. No need to comment, no need to lambast Joystiq for printing Halo 3 news, just move on and enjoy peaceful thoughts.

So, the graphics will get better. Sweet. Although, the game is already immensely fun as is...

The graphics arnt looking as good as they were hyped up to be. There are games coming out this fall that already look better than HAlO 3. If they do say there polishing its not going to do much, what you see here is pretty much what you get. With all these "big" levels there not going to have to many levels overall. Considering its on a 360 wich only supports DVD. 9gb thats not alot. In future games; Bungie will be much better off putting there big games on other systems, Hint the 50gb storage of blu-ray.

I'm tired as hell of hearing that the current graphics are "fine as they are now". But, I do have to admit that if they pack alot of (RE: more) features into an already stellar gameplay experience, the final graphics will in fact be icing on the cake - as long as they are better than the beta.

There are just some things that in this day and age of Unreal Engine type graphics are needed in every next-gen game, like killer lighting and shading.

The two things graphically that bother me the most in the game are

1) The AA. The most jagged edges I've seen on any 360 game or demo to date. They are not everywhere, but when they pop up they're brutal and almost wii like. I'm sure that will be gone by the release of the game as it looks like there is zero AA and all 360 games are suppose to have at least 2x AA I believe.

2) My other gripe is the textures do not look sharp enough. They have soft look to them, almost like looking through a greasy film. And this is on a hidef tv btw. It's not horrible just not up to par with your average 360 game.

Other than that it's Halo and looks like it. If these two issues get fixed the game should be good enough in the graphical department. If they go above fixing the AA and cleaning up the textures than it is icing on the cake and a very welcome surprise. I'm curious to see how the final tweaks look.

I don't get why the graphics are a big deal.

1.) It's a Beta.
2.) It's Halo. Do you focus on the graphical quality when in a fire fight? No. This isn't Gears where you go "WHHOOOOOOOOOOOA! Did you see that blood squirt?"

Excellent, top-of-the-line graphics are a novelty that make slightly-above-average games score so high and so popular. Example: Gears of War.

@2

How many OPEN betas of anything have upgraded graphics substantially? Only WoW comes to mind, and that really was minor graphical changes. What are they going to add? It would be so much work at this point in the development to upgrade the graphics. I bet they saw the response and just felt pressured to add in some glitter effects like new blur filters to make it look "ub3r".

Polish. Tom (head man at Bungie.net) said that the main purpose of the beta was giving users maps that looked and felt complete and having tons of people playing them so they could gather data. (lots of it) It your playing a game that has white walls (no textures) lighting missing and very bland boring textures it's not going to play right. Why? Because people look at that and don't want to play it. they sit and complain. I'd guess about 1/4 of the demo is tools used for datamining. We haven't seen half of what they have to offer.

Joystiq is right though....HD video of single player should shut everyone up.

B) Can anyone name me 1 Xbox Live multiplayer game that looks as good as the single player. Just one...

People had seen the final Halo 3 graphics until Bungie was called out for them basically looking like Halo2 on Xbox. Realizing their mistakes, it's time for a criitcal revamp before launch.

At least they are trying to remedy it, but at such a late date, how much better are they likely to get? probably not much.

1 a) It's the BETA
b) Why do people say "its too late to change it now"? Does that make any sense? Maybe they didn't start just now. Meybe they've been working on the graphics the whole time, and the Beta graphics were probably outdated by a week when it launched. God, its the same logic that makes people say "Aww there's only 10 characters in SSBB!?", they're not showing you everything right now.

2) the graphics look fine to me anyway. They're not ub3r 1337, but they're pretty good right now. Besides, gameplay matters alot more, and with the graphics in the beta, I don't care if they stay the same, 'cause the gameplay is awesomely fun.

At first when I read this article I thought this guy was full of S*, but then I remembered Day Of Defeat: source. When the beta for that came out a couple years back the graphics were Horrible, just reworked models from the original, and everyone complained about it. So valve created all new models and even redesigned the levels in just six months for the release. So I figure if valve could build all new models and textures from scratch in six months. Microsoft can make Halo 3 look 'next-gen' in four.

The graphics of HALO 3 Beta would have been the same graphics in the final product, if no one wouldn't have said anything... Whey release a BETA, when the graphics engine isn't complete.. whose to say that its going to run the same way when the game is complete, kinda makes the BETA test worthless.

Halo 3 has its work cut out for it... after seeing the newest Mass Effect Screenshots, the promise of UT3 to outdo GOW, and the newest gameplay footage of Bioshock, there are a lot of contenders out there that look to steal the graphics bar from Halo3. Halo1 set the bar at launch, & when Halo2 came out it set the bar once again. Will Halo3 reset the bar graphically. NO I don't think so. It will set the bar in LIVE functionality... finally. Halo2 still holds that title.

People need to stop bitching about the graphics. Graphics should not make or break a game, they should only add to the experience. I say the graphical capability of the current gen systems is great, and all the people out there that bitch and moan about the graphics being too sucky need to realize that there are limits to what can be done with the current technology. And besides, most of you ARE going to buy a game that's fun to play regardless of whether or not the graphics are super top-notch.

when was halo about graphics?

halo 2 actually got lower scores in the visuals dept that any other category yet its still critically acclaimed.

the beta looks fine. and the millions of halo fans will buy it regardless.

the only people complaining about graphics are the peopel who didnt plan on buying halo in the first place. or peopele who dont even own an xbox 360.

this isnt gears of war..or crysis, those games were touted as graphical showpieces.

halo has never been touted as a graphical showpiece but as a solid console FPS game play experience.

and the beta really proves that.

Sure when Halo 3 launches it's graphics won't be as good as some other games, but I guarantee you Halo 3 will sell better and get played more, because it is a funner game. When I first play a game I look at the graphics for a bit, and then that is pretty much it. It's like gears of war. When I got it, I was like "Wow these graphics are great!" And then after a bit, I realised that the game still wasn't all that great to play, and the good graphics don't seem to matter that much anymore.

It's a beta build to test GAME PLAY! To stop a slue of graphics related bugs, all the bells and whistles are turned off. It's very clear most of you screaming tards have NEVER seen a real beta build before. You have to wait until the finish product comes out before you pass judgement...

Well unless you're a PC gamer like me. Then the bastards dump a beta as "finished" product on the shelves and make us test it.

Not to pour salt on an open wound but the definition of beta is: All elements and functions are in and assumed to be working.

Obviously to keep on schedule sometimes people let things slide but not the entire look of a game, thats usually set in stone by beta.

THe game looks ok, nothing special, I'll reserve judgement till I get to play the single player campaign.

That first movie they released they said that was done with the Halo 3 engine and is what we would expect from a Halo game here on out. So deliver already.

"Graphics are important otherwise we would have stuck with XBox 1."

Exactly. What's the point of spending $400 on a system if all they're just going to tweak the gameplay and add a new storyline, which they could have done on the original Xbox.

Also, although not every game needs to look as good as Gears of War, Halo 3 does need to look good, since it's supposed to be the flagship game for the 360. Imagine if Super Mario World didn't look much better than Super Mario Bros.? People would have questioned why they bought an SNES.

My personal problem with the Halo 3 graphics is not the technical details. It's the overly generic look. Regardless of whether the textures are crisp or what the resolution is, it's the same freakin' generic-guy-in-suit that's been around since Doom. Come on Bungie, give us some art design!

(Please note that I do not have an XBOX 360. This opinion is based upon videos and screenshots that I've seen online.)

graphics ≠ fun

Anyway, Halo3 is gonna be great regardless of whether or not they improve the graphics. I'm too busy pwning noobs to notice the graphics anyway. =P
I can only hope that when Metroid goes online it will be as fun.
