The only question is, will the Hour of Victorydemo now on Xbox Live provide an hour of fun? Also, did Activision release new Call of Duty 3 content today specifically to distract you from this fellow first-person double-dub dos shooter? Wait, well we guess that's two questions. So, the only questions are the two we've already asked. Oh, and will Midwayplease develop Hour of Victory Airborne so we can fire up the Joystiq Acronizer 3000 and use up these Jay-Z jokes we bought a few years ago on clearance? So, three.
Come to think of it, will the less-than-stellar reception the demo is receiving so far keep you from downloading it? And, lest we forget the most important question: What did you think? So, just those five questions, no more. We promise.
Update: The Hour of Victory demo has now apparently been pulled from Xbox Live. We don't know if has anything to do with the game's negative reception as this thread suggests. We'll let you know if anything changes.
If this demo is any indication of the final product: I can firmly stand behind the fact that this will be one of the worst titles since the inception of the transistor. Absolutely embarrassing.
It's one of those games you realize is HORRIBLE, with under 5 seconds of play under your belt. How do these things get released?...
(yawn) I caught wind of this game a few months back when Midway was doing marketing research on this title. Thought it sucked then and things haven't changed. A wasted effort.
@2 I agree. When will this stop. Or at least can we have some different wars, such as the revolutionary war, or some greek war, or like, the korean war or something??
The game is HORRIBLE. The controls are not fluid and the graphics sub par. This goes to show no matter how good the engine is that is being used. IF you have any good programmers it will suck royally.
War games are just a developer's way of not paying for plot writers. I'm sure they have to spend money to get it historically accurate but its got to be way less than thinking up plot/weapons/characters/locations etc etc. from scratch.
Read what you source, man (the major-nelson thread). It was taken down before most people downloaded it, then it was put back up only to receive shit-tastic reviews.
really man stop the WWII games even activision is smart and call of duty 4 takes place in a war similar to the iraqi one but with COD3 attributes like play but modern weapons and levels even vietnam or korean war would be fine
I don't know if I've been spoilt by the Call of Duty series (which I love) but this just seemed terrible in comparison. It takes forever to get your aim of the enemy. The game just made me sea-sick it was like you were bobbing around in water the whole time - just not snappy enough.
Also what's with the constant screaming sample when you defend the HQ?
One saving grace was the enemy AI - the Germans take cover and after laying a few rounds at you sprint for different cover to keep you on your toes.
@15: Still, its a bit loaded to suggest the bad demo as a reason for the takedown without _any_ corroboration. Phrasing it like "We don't know for sure but," -doesn't help. Whatever, though. Your story.
There are so many things about this game that are complete ripoffs of Call of Duty, just packaged a little differently. Right stick to aim down sights instead of left trigger? Wow! You've ushered in a whole new era of WWII shooters! Wrong.
