A new set of screenshots from
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass have just trickled onto the web. This game looks more gorgeous every time we see it. The first eight images in the gallery below are new and show stills from cut-scenes, a couple of battle shots, sailing, and the interior of what looks like a shop. Set for release next month in Japan and what will feel like years later elsewhere (holiday 2007), we can't wait to get our hands on this title. Maybe it's time to crack open a book and
learn enough Japanese to pick our way through the game?

I keep seeing more reasons to buy a DS... too bad I'm going to have to buy a lot of Wii games in the next 6 months instead.

God I hope they avoided the "sailing isn't fun. just annoying" pitfall. Because I'd hate to have such a good looking game ruined again.
Hirsbrunner @ May 31st 2007 10:52AM
This game has been pushed back so many times, I almost forgot about it. It's looking really good, too.
I just hope there's an option to use the buttons/d-pad in addition to the new touchscreen controls.
Vidikron @ May 31st 2007 10:55AM
Looks pretty good... but, damn, I hate that Wind Waker Link. It's just one step up from the Link those CD-i games.

I hope there's an option to use d-pad/buttons for control of Link in addition to the new touchscreen controls.

Dammit!

I too hope that they incorporate mulitple control schemes. Like in Animal Crossing or Super Mario 64 DS. Because there are times when it feels better to use the control pad and other things feel much better with touch control.
Otherwise though, it looks beautiful, I was a big Wind Waker fan, despite the sailing. Wewt, I can't wait though, Japanese import, here I come.

Vidikron mah boi

I REALLY hope they do something to make the sailing less tedious. Sitting and staring at the TV for 10 minutes while you sailed was one thing, doing the same with your DS would be even worse.
I'll buy it whatever they do with it, though. I know this to be true.

huh... seems like they're going with putting small black outlines around stuff.. thats pretty cool looking, actually.
WW link was one that had uhh... personality, so he's one of my favorites :) But damn I am excited for this game... pirate link!
Walking Contradiction @ May 31st 2007 12:42PM
Is this for the Wii too?
Only3Penguins @ May 31st 2007 1:02PM
No, Walking Contradiction. DS exclusive.

It's funny that the same people who shat on Wind Waker Link are absolutely in love with the look of this game.

@sheppy:
I think, judging from pics and videos, sailing will be better. You trace out your travel path before sailing, then fire the steamboat's cannon at stuff while you travel.
@Hirsbrunner:
I wouldn't count on traditional controls. Judging from what I've seen so far, this game was built with the Touch Screen in mind. Elements such as marking the map, tracing the path for the boat and the boomerang, etc... Don't seem very plausible with traditional controls.
scarfy @ May 31st 2007 3:33PM
WEEEEEE!!!!!! I can't wait to play this! I didn't mind the sailing on Wind Waker. I hope this is even more fun!

Fanboy moment! :
It's Zelda, therefore it's good. =3

I love the fact that they are bringing back the Wind Waker look. So many people complained about it that I thought they wouldn't. The Wind Waker was the best looking Zelda game ever... somewhat tedious gameplay though.

Dammit, I'm finally going to have to crack and get a DS. I meant to for over a year, but if they release a Zelda game on it... well, that will settle that, as it were.
aaaltomare @ Jun 6th 2007 2:49AM
i'm almost glad this is going to be release in december... it gives me time to finish wii twilight princess (because unlike some 6-hour finishers, i'm taking my sweet sweet time).
