Need for Speed: Pro Street announced
12
Remember the Need for Speed teaser that was released just over week ago? The one that told us to check NeedForSpeed.com on May 31? Guess what? It's May 31, and EA has officially announced ... a Need For Speed game (imagine that). The new game, subtitled Pro Street, focuses on players becoming the world's greatest street racer. The press release mentions fully customizable cars that you can fully tweak and tune for maximum performance. It also gives us a few tiny details about the damage system, noting that "every dent, every scratch and every crumpled body panel is a battle scar, proof of your commitment and competitive mettle." The game is also slated to have a "revolutionary online mode," though no concrete details are given. Need For Speed: Pro Street is scheduled to release this November. Watch the (slightly) extended trailer above and check out the screenshot gallery below.

It looks great, but I just bought Carbon last Christmas. What's the hook?

I enjoyed Most Wanted. It was campy but in a good natured sense. The plot was loose and silly, but still you could follow what was going on. The racing was decent as well; I much prefer that style to sim-types like Forza.
Carbon was absolute crap. The new drift racing was annoying, the campy style was gone, and I had no idea what the f*ck was going on in the game.
I'm certainly not impressed that another game is coming so soon; I suspect that simply means it's a crappy rehash that's not going to be worth the money.

I agree with Viridium. It's time need for speed goes back to it's roots! Let's see some good old fashioned daytime races with SPORTS CARS with some real tracks. I especially miss the long point-to-points from the original game. They also need to make the game a little bit more realistic (meaning hitting a car head-on going 150 MPH should cause you to lose more than 30 MPH of speed).

It's all very well and nice being able to fully tweak the performance, but the game has such rubber-band physics that a good hour worth of tweaking would go unnoticed.
The revolutionary online mode will be something similar to Test Drive Unlimited, only run on EA's unreliable servers. Yawn.
Viridium;
Drifting was included in Need for Speed Underground 2, and differed from Carbon, in that it actually worked. Exactly what kind of physics were they using in Carbon?
So yeah, another NFS game which will get an average review score.

...and I mean rubber-band as in you could cause an opponent to crash, gain a decent lead, only for them to pull of miraculous speeds and be behind you within 10 seconds, even with yourself going top speed down a straight with nitro going.

Hey, it's EA, they do yearly versions of all their games adding a few little minor touches. Well, who can blame 'em, they always become platinum sellers every single year. I'm pretty sure this is gonna be the standard NFS Underground with some additions.

What the hell? Ah yes, the Madden curse has carried over to NFS. Is it too much to ask for a Hot Pursuit 3?

Rubberband is th eworst part of this game.
Another thing I don't like is that the bosses cars are built like tanks.
Yiou can ram into them and try to take them out but they wont' budge.

Since i've played Forza 2, im pretty sure i'll never play another racing game until forza 3. Once you experience real physics, theres just no going back to the usual fake garbage.

Logan; it's a matter of personal preference. I've tried Forza 2, didn't like it. I'm not a racing sim kind of guy. Even PGR 3 isn't really my bag.
As I said, I quite enjoyed Most Wanted, and I also like the arcade style racing of the Burnout series.

@9: I agree (apart from the PGR3 bit), I much prefer the arcadey racers to the driving sims.
After playing the Forza2 demo a few times the first thing I said to my mate was "It's no Project Gotham is it?" And I haven't played the demo since.
Anywayyyyy, I never tried Carbon but a few of my friends attested to it's shitness. I really enjoyed Most Wanted with the police roadblocks and chases. Undergound2 was good aswell.
And are those metal 'stitches' on the car in the first pic??

well for me needforspeed most wanted and carbon were pretty good games, I think the only problems were the custom cars you couldnt custumize yourself. And in carbon whats the point in tricking out your car that people will only see from the rear for a few secs.
i hope they fix these thing in this one, and that they dont lose the speed and add a lot of DRIFT.
