That, is actually pretty cool. Instead of managing every player, you get to specialize a certain player that you play online. That's a nice step forward for sports gaming.

I really like this idea from the sound of it. However, wasn't another company trying to do a similar idea with American football, but EA stopped them by purchasing the NFL license?

Just seems ironic.

LOL EA putting content on the marketplace for free, HA HA i haven't laughed so hard all week. thanks.

But that one player idea doesn't sound too bad, if its done right, kinda like Football meets RPG, with training etc (maybe even diet etc too).

@Adam

Better question: does anyone want to be a goalkeeper in real life?

2010? I know the years are flying by, but not THAT fast... Seems like they could introduce that this fall if they wanted.

But I'm not a developer, so what do I really know... I DO know that many next-gen combat games can handle it, and those seem like they might require more than a soccer game. The thing is, anything less than full teams might be annoying - if you've ever played 4-on-4 FIFA it's mayhem trying to tell who you are when everyone is switching players following the ball.

I can't get over that timeframe... If someone told me 'virtual goggles in 2010' it would be understandable. But adding multiplayer aspects to FIFA? Gamers don't want to hear about something coming out in late 2009... I bet there will be a new console from Nintendo by then.

Man that would seriously rock. I hope Konami does it for Pro Evo/Winning Eleven though...I don't really like Fifa.

man, Just imagine you're the goalie in that game. wait 90 minutes and touch the ball twice.

And you wonder why Football (or we call soccer here) can't sell in North America?

I think there will be the only game where players on the same teams fighting for the control of the ball.

@ill tropper -

2010 is the next World Cup. That is where the title comes from.

CHRIST this is about time for any sports game! Who the hell would have EVER thought EA would be the one to helm this awesome idea?

@horngreen

I know. Between this and the fact that somehow EA has managed to put out some of the better Wii games, it's like the company is completely turning upside down. How the hell did EA become respectable?

OK, now here's a REAL challenge:

Get the 11 best FIFA players in any country, hand them Pro Evolution, and watch FIFA disappear into irrelevancy.

And this is coming from someone that reviewed FIFA '07 well. It's good, but it's no Pro Evo.

Being Goalie deosn't mean you can't get involved in the game. The goalie can leave his goal at will (although this is suicidal in many countries) and even go forward and score goals.

The goalie has a good perspective on whats going on, can call the shots and even be captain.

Being goaly aint that strenuous. All in all, it aint that bad a position.

On topic:

Looking forward to this game.

LostToys: Ah, yes... Sorry, I only saw the "FIFA," not the "world cup" part. Yeah, I'm actually a fan... I went to Germany last summer for World Cup and saw the Brazil-Ghana match live.

Still, why not add this to regular ol' FIFA ASAP?

that would be reeeealy boring for the 95% of the time you don't have the ball, and mildly interesting for the remaining few seconds. also i reckon it would encourage selfish play, since otherwise you wouldn't see the ball for the next 5 minutes. meh.

If 11 people are playing, how will the camera work? Will it be a zoomed out view so that you can see the whole field, or will each player see a different view?
