I hate Japanese numbers.

PS3 has NO good game, the sales went up by 10% from last week

PS2 has 2 decent games, the sales only went up by 3%

PSP has 1 A game, the sales goes down.

That's nothing special to Japan or video game sales... it's standard statistical variation. On the whole, nothing has changed.

I see it every week... but I still can't understand it! It's amazing!

Do people know you can RECHARGE the DS or do they just throw it out and buy a new one every few weeks when the battery dies?

more than 125 million people live in japan. add to that the various tourists (not just from europe but from other asian countries close to japan) and you have a lot of people who do not yet have a DS.

DS must be brought for various members of a same family, because multiplay games (like the minigames of new super mario, bomberman) is a great fun.

Joshua, yes, he's called Rockman in Japan. But you think Inafking doesn't know that the English market (as well as many other markets) know him as Megaman?

The weekly variations in the DS numbers are greater than the actual PS3 numbers. This is getting crazier each week (or awesomer).

BPM (#10), yes, of course he knows that, but even so, he wouldn't say, "Well, see, he's this man, right? He's a man who's... who's mega. A mega man. He's a really, really, awesome man."

Instead, he'd offer up an explanation about his name change outside of Japan, and then proceed to explain how he came up with the name "Rock Man".

The European box art for Mega Man 2 is BETTER than the U.S. box art for Mega Man 1.

@Rubang B:
Better at being worse? At least MM2 US started making him looking Megaman-ish. Ya know, completely blue?

But the PAL box for the first Megaman... THAT was LOADS better than the US MM1 box:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/mega-man-/cover-art/gameCoverId,67365/
Aside from the fact he didn't look like a 10-year-old anime boy, everything looked right on this box. He was blue/cyan (not blue/yellow, or blue/silver) and he wasn't holding a gun, he had his Mega Buster.

The PAL MM2 is a huge downgrade compared to the PAL MM1 box.

@Joshua:
Anyone who cares about the change from Rockman to Megaman, or the origin of "Rockman" already knows.
Before he was a super fighting robot, he was a house-keeping robot named Rock (and his sister unit was named Roll). Then he was remodeled to fight Dr. Wily, thus Rockman.
It was changed for most regions outside of Japan (a few other Asian nations use "Rockman" instead) since... well... Rockman is a really lame name. He doesn't have earth-based or music-based powers. And just because his original name was "Rock" doesn't make "Rockman" a good name. It'd be just like Mr. Wayne's alterego being called "Bruceman," or Mr. Kent's alterego being called "Clarkman." Just doesn't work.

The box art for the time was ok, cool even.

"5 mintues until Walking Contradiction (aka Jack of No Trades) comes and talk shit about Nintendo."

It hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it will. I think it was Walking Contradiction who said that he didn't care about Japanese hardware sales, that they were irrelevant to his country... and maybe he really doesn't, and maybe he really thinks they aren't...

BPM (#19), I understand how some people could think the name "Rock Man" would be "lame" (although I feel it's better than "Mega Man"), but if they changed his name, then why not change everyone else's name? They had a thing going on with Rock and Roll. Later they added Blues and Forte to this theme. Even Rush could be considered music related if you consider the band.

@Rubang B:
Hahaha, whoops. I misunderstood you when I posted that, thinking you were comparing the two MM2 boxes. Sorry about that, pal.
Well, just about any boxart is better than the US MM1 box. Even the Atari 400/800 box where they gave Pac-Man A WHOLE FREAKIN' BODY.

@Joshua:
It wasn't necessary to change Rock and Roll. "Rockman" to "Megaman" was, since that was what'd be marketed.
And, personally? I think "Megaman" is a far superior name. It sounds appropriate for a heroic robot.

Blues was changed to Protoman. Really can't explain that one, unless they decided Blues would be his "normal" name, and Protoman would be his "super" name.

Forte became Bass. Most likely due to Nintendo's censorship standards of the time. Gospel couldn't be used as his wolf-like support unit's name. So they changed Forte and Gospel to Bass and Treble, respectively. Personally, I find these two names to work a lot better than the Japanese ones.
Though, this got things kinda messed within the alternate universe of MegaMan Battle Network. MMBN2 introduced the NetMafia known as Gospel, and this was kept for the English release. Likely due to the fact noone wanted to change all the Gospel logos to Treble logos. :P
But, this also had an effect on the highly butched anime dub, MegaMan NT Warrior. Guess to VIZ Media, "Gospel" is still an unacceptable name, so they renamed the organization and the character to Grave. [shrugs]

Ah, PS3. Don't worry. Someday you'll reach over 10k. I know you can do it! Just keep practicing, like this image here:

http://digitalbattle.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/ken.jpg

Ooops, wrong one.

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/617/617951/microsofts-xbox-360-vs-sonys-playstation-3-20050520041725628.jpg

Darn, can't find it but its a joke image of a ps3 trying to do a high jump and the bar says '10k' and the jumper in the video(whose covered by a ps3 image) really falls quite hard.

It's great seeing more green than red for starters. And once again, it's impressive to see the DS Lite outsell all else below it, and for that matter, Wii outselling all else below it too.

Nice Mega Man bit too. :)
