Mortal Kombat's Wiimote-enabled fatalities
While we're not sold on using the Wiimote for traditional fighting games -- and neither is Midway, you can play the newly released Mortal Kombat: Armageddon with the classic controller or GameCube controller -- the mere thought of Wiimote-enabled fatalities has us all bloodthirsty giddy with curiosity. We perused the list of moves conveniently hosted in PDF format at JOEyGADGET, and selected our three favorites, ranked in order of offensiveness to your grandparents:
Rip off Both Arms
Remote & Nunchuck: Both poke, Remote toward and Nunchuck away
Head Crush Finisher
Remote & Nunchuck: away then toward each other (clap)
Spine Rip Finisher
Remote: Poke, twist clockwise
Between this and Manhunt 2's Wiimote-enabled depravity, the Wii is becoming the console of choice for not only the octogenarian cruise ship crowd, but the graphic simulated violence crowd as well.

Holy Crap!!! That would be fun.
kingofwale @ Jun 1st 2007 4:20PM
this is how you DON'T describe a 3-D movement in a 2-D form.
>Remote & Nunchuck: Both poke, Remote toward and Nunchuck away
toward what? away from what? you mean pulling to the side of your arms? Wouldn't that just slap the cord?
>Remote: Poke, twist clockwise
clockwise along the x-axis or y-axis?
They seriously need to show an animation of those moves instead of writing it out.
Cody @ Jun 1st 2007 4:23PM
They have videos of the animations I believe.
And i'd imagine they have a key or something that goes along with this list with the game, as the directions are mostly written in shorthand, otherwise it would be a much longer list.
Slvrgun @ Jun 1st 2007 4:37PM
Every time I say something about the number of less than average games for the Wii, someone always brings up this game (supposedly its one of the better games to take advantage of the Wiimote. Revolutionary? I say no)which really makes me wonder about the entire Wii platform.
XGamerX @ Jun 1st 2007 4:39PM
i wonder just how responsive the controls are for this game. It could either be really fun or really annoying.
3cubedminus3squared @ Jun 1st 2007 4:51PM
That sounds neat. Is there a button you hold while doing these or something?
I still wouldn't buy it.
I would buy MK2 or 3 for the VC though.
jay @ Jun 1st 2007 5:01PM
Slvrgun- I've never believed the system itself to be revolutionary, it's more to do with the public and social impact of the machine.
I'm looking forward to this. Could be fun, could be average. Either way if it's crap then it'll be yet another rubbish 3D Mortal Kombat and I'll be prejudiced against future MK titles. Now give me Smash Bros...
Slvrgun @ Jun 1st 2007 5:20PM
Well for a system code named revolution you certaintly expect revolution, and I'm not talking about a revolutionary way to bank on sisters, moms, grandmas, and cruise ship residents.
Ken @ Jun 1st 2007 5:20PM
Still won't buy it, but that's certainly better than:
Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, X
For fatalities.
God I hated those.
dvnt @ Jun 1st 2007 5:33PM
I've played it. It's surprisingly easy to do though it's true it doesn't always register. I don't think any Wii game has got it perfect yet. I was playing with the g/f and it's fun to actually do the fatality motions on the person you're playing with and see it played out on screen! Muahaha!
Dale @ Jun 1st 2007 5:50PM
What's not revolutionary about making video games appealing to a much, much wider group of people?
Still, I don't see that the Wii is the only example of that: my wife and I introduced my mother in law to Guitar Hero this weekend and she's hooked.
syco @ Jun 1st 2007 5:54PM
If someone brought up Mortal Kombat as an example of a good Wii (or anything) game you should already know they are full of crap. Mortal Kombat was, is, and always will be a terrible game.
jay @ Jun 1st 2007 5:57PM
Oh sorry, I thought I was talking to somebody who could hold a conversation.
Rubang B @ Jun 1st 2007 7:57PM
Hold Block, then Up Up!
Gavin @ Jun 1st 2007 8:09PM
It isn't revolutionary. In fact, the system is the empitome of a mediocre product hyped by it's overzealous fan base.
Here's the thing about Nintendo fans. Right now there is a huge online contingency of them because there is a segment of college aged emo losers who grew up playing Pokemon and never got a life. Now they are in their late teens and early twenties, still don't have a life and hang out with a handful of people just like them. All they do is play games, listen to crappy music, and watch shitty movies, then they talk about it on the internet like they are the most knowledgeable person in the universe. The haunt blogs, myspace, video games sites, digg, and all the regular places. These are the same people who thing that an Apple computer or MP3 player is the only thing to own. They are the curse of the internet.
They have hyped this thing up to make it seem like a god box, but it isn't
It's an outdated console with an interesting gimmick peripheral as it's main source of input and that's it. It has mostly crappy games, shitty online components, and everything about it is overpriced for what you get. Pay $250 for a Gamecube 1.5 then pay $50 for a two year old PS2 game and $8 for ROM that's about two decades old. Yeah, real revolution there.
Rubang B @ Jun 1st 2007 8:15PM
Gavin wouldn't know a revolution if it cost $600, had no games, crawled up his nose and took a dump. The revolution left him in the dust.
Gausser @ Jun 1st 2007 8:58PM
@Gavin
Someone's bitter.
Slvrgun @ Jun 1st 2007 9:01PM

Gavin that was an excellent description. Now while I don't wholeheartly agree with Sony's decision as far as the PS3, it does have a tremendous amount of potential, much more expandability and capability than the Wii which is basically 6 year old hardware with a $250 price tag, with only a few decent games, and expensive controllers and overpriced games. But hey, mediocrity is the uninformed simple minded casuals best friend. Those same people who think Ipods and MP3 players are two different types of devices (even though Ipod ironically are MP3 players and are not the best PMP devices, contrary to popular belief. Anyway even though the 360 isn't selling quite as fast as the Wii we all know the it has the better games, a wider selection of games, a great interface, the best online experience, better media features than the Wii (which has next to none), and vastly better hardware, accessories, and potential.
megaStryke @ Jun 1st 2007 11:11PM
"The simple-minded."
"Unwitting lemmings."
"Lambs to the slaughter."
"The ignorant masses."
And many more choice quips!
Some of you people act like this is some kind of political uprising. Relax, Che Guevara!
Cuja @ Jun 2nd 2007 1:06AM
Wii suck! Wii suck! Wii suck! Wii suck! Outdated and put right back on the market to sell again and again.
Rubang B @ Jun 2nd 2007 3:13AM
Why are we bashing the Wii? I thought we were here to discuss the interesting new control scheme for the new Mortal Kombat. It should be noted that this control scheme is completely optional, and you can also use a Classic Controller or a Wavebird. So if your problem is with the control scheme, you have traditional options, and if your problem is with the Wii, then you're in the wrong thread and you're a troll. I thought the whole "revolution" behind the Wii was the new control scheme, so whether you agree with it or not, this game is proof that it exists. ZOMG look a new way to play!
Gavin @ Jun 2nd 2007 3:18AM

Yeah, a different way to play the same old games doesn't make the games new. Unless you are a drooling mindless fanboy who totes the party line. The games aren't new and if you pretend they are, you are just fooling yourself. You are buying Gamecube games with tacked on controls for premium prices. It's called screwing the consumer.
Geo @ Jun 2nd 2007 9:16AM
Its funny, everybody always talks about the NDF, yet here we are discussing a game for it, and retards have to start bashing the system. Its pretty amazing, really.
Fuck all yall, I'm having a blast with it, and none of the hater talking points are going to change that.
deaftly @ Jun 2nd 2007 12:12PM
i have to agree with the majority, the wii just sucks
izzy @ Jun 2nd 2007 4:21PM
@Gavin
U said Wii has a shitty online component, at least it's wireless out of the box(unlike 360), for fucks sake the DS( which i can get for 60 pounds used) has wireless. 360's wireless adaptor costs 60 quid on it's own. Wii may not have the graphics power, but at least we don't get raped into buying peripherals which should be the standard for a console dat costs $400/280 pounds. Now shut da hell up
ISH
feArleSs @ Jun 4th 2007 8:17PM
Wii haters are just plain retards who cant accept their console is gonna get pwned its coming and you fanboys know it! which im not really looking forward to because it will only mean more b|tching and crying from fanboys. Old school pwns you! so does the Grandma and Grandpa gamers! ROLF!
