>A move like this would in no way be an admission that their game is inferior.

actually, it's a CLEAR backing down from a not-so-direct-challenge. T2 should just stick with it. The hype will ONLY take a game so far, after 2 weeks the sales number ONLY be about the quality of the game.

@49

Actually, you need only look as far as movie games to see that more than quality can carry a game for more more than two weeks.

But, again, why would you want your own hype machine (i.e. ADVERTISING) overshadowed by Halo 3's? It has nothing to do with game quality, nothing at all. It's about getting your new game in the public eye, and that's going to be more difficult to do while the Halo 3 hype machine is in full swing.

In the long run both games will likely sell tons, but why risk losing a few sales and wasting advertising dollars just because your pride refused to let you move a game back couple of weeks?

More like Halo 3 moved from November to September to stop GTA IV from biting into its sales. Does everyone forget that GTA owns October? Halo 2 didn't have to compete head to head with San Andreas because it didn't get released on the XBOX until 6 months later.

Not to mention that both of these games need a bigger audience to sell to (next-gen console audience is purty small) and will sell well for years to come and not just a couple of months. Not like 2 weeks is going to make that much of a difference.

I'm so sick of these financial companies providing predictions about gaming... I don't give a flying fk what they predict, and i'm damn sure rockstar games doesn't care either, they are pointless articles that try and fill joystiq's news... IT IS NOT GAMING NEWS

on the other hand i'm looking more forward to GTA4 than halo 3, but i'll be buying them both the day they are released

WOW most of you guys are dumb as sh*t...

Are you guys that much of a fanboy to not check some stats before you claim that T2 is doing this (even though they havent offically said anything)because they're are afraid of halo...

Well I did the numbers for you all

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (13 million)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (12 million)
---------------------------------------------
That Equals 25 million for just those two games alone....

Halo 2 (8 million)
Halo: Combat Evolved (5 million)
--------------------------------------------------
Thats 13 million so that means the halo series combine sold as much as 1 GTA game

So ask yourself this people....who really needs the delay to sell there game?I'll gie you a hint , it aint T2

And JonnyBoy2U you sound more like a fanboy then the person you called out....

I agree with Sheppy. I agree with this move completely. It doesn't matter that it's a different genre. It's smart business sence. Ex: Movies Studios do it all the time. If there is a hit movie coming out on the same day as theirs. They usually change the date, because they know majority of people don't go see 2 movies on the same opening weekend. It's considering your opening sales. Rockstar wants a close to max net sales for when GTA4 comes out. Not to be hampered by another big title. Besides, why do people want the game so early? This fall is chalk-full of Big Hit titles to pass the time when waiting another (OMG its so horrible) 2 WEEKS for GTA4! Just get over it. It's their Million or more dollar game, not yours. You only pay 60 bucks for it. Rockstar can do whatever they want, becuase you aren't taking a 1-5 million dollar risk. Just let Rockstar be.

@Urbanstorm

LOL, those stats are all fine and good but you forgot one tiny problem. When the First GTA was launched how many ps2 were there? Alot! Now let's look at this Generation. Around what 10 million 360 and about 3 millon ps3s in the marketplace? That's a extremely low number in fact. Around 13 million possible buys. That's almost the same amount as the First GTA sold. 100% of the market isn't going to buy GTA4. Good job on the stats, but bad at tying it into this generations problem. Limited user base. The 360 has a large user base and judging from the 5 million pre-orders for halo 3 on gamestop. That's a large percent of 360 owners. (sure some might be buying a 360 too.) Still it's a large percent. It's a smart business move. So don't use data that is from last-gen to base it off of this generation. That's like comparing the survival rate of being wounded in World War 2 to the Crusades. Pointless.

umm u DO realize that GTA sold more because it was on multiple consoles right?

halo i sstrictly in-house.

so a direct sales to sales comparison is rather moot. also as someone else mentioned, there were more ps2's than xbox's at that time, now its the other way around ( at least for now). so GTA wud be directly competing with HAlo 3 for all those 360 owners. its smart for both parties to stretch out the time between both games so they can both make the most money.

why have gamers choose between one or the other on the same day, when u can have that same consumer buy both 2 weeks apart.

seems like common sense to me.

Huh? Halo 3 will have no effect on ps3 sales? Come again? Think it through REALISTICLY. If a ps3 cost $600 plus a game of course a person that already has a 360 and wants a 360 will be effected. Now instead of having to come up with 700$ for ps3 plus a game. They will need another.

Whatever happens, I just hope Halo 3 (and Mario Galaxy) manage to put a bullet in the back of GTA's head and kill that franchise...GTA has to be the most over rated turd I've ever played.

If I never had to hear another moron prattle on about being a thug, I'd be a happy man.

...I suppose I could apply that last sentence to a lot of things, though..

I just think it's hilarious that people in these comments are taking the prediction of Pachter like his words mean anything.
