WTF is this piece of garbage writing? God that was awful.

"..don't forget about the gamers."
"wait now, the who????
"Dude, "The Who" is one of those 70's bands ..."

Leave the clever quips and sarcasm to Ludwig.

"crappy sequels, games based on stupid movies, monopolizing sports licenses so they can jack up game prices, ripping people off for overpriced downloads. Stuff like that ..."

The ESA is not responsible for any of that crap. They should not waste their time policing the publishers.

They should do what they were designed to do. Protect the industry in the media. They should get the ESRB a better reputation. They should be the PR for the pro-gamer studies. They should be there defending free speech whenever a game law gets passed (which they been pretty good at doing).

And I do agree that they should confront JT more. We shouldn't see him have any more solo interviews on CNN. There should always be someone from the ESA to call him on everything he's wrong about.

If they were to waste their time worrying about the quality of games, the ESA would fail on two levels. There will never be an end to bad games. And they wouldn't have enough time or resources to get things done that no other organization is positioned to do.

@Probot - you're right, the ESA has no say regarding what publishers do or don't do, make or don't make. But the ESA prez has a bully pulpit. Lowenstein talked about these content issues at just about every E3 keynote I ever attended.

ESA prez is a tough job. You work for several dozen big bucks companies who don't answer to you but look to you to sort of guide the industry. Lowenstein did, to a point, but the thing eventually got away from him. Gallagher? We'll see...

For the literary critics who objected to the style of today's piece, what can I say? I could have written a "5 things the new ESA Prez should know" or some such, but that idea bored me beyond tears, so I decided to have a bit of fun with it. Well, I thought it was fun anyway...

Dennis,

It was fun and I think it was well written. It takes a lot of effort for a good writer to intentionally write really poorly, because you're continuously trying to cram in every stereotype in just the right way at just the right time.

I enjoyed reading it, and I thought it was fun too. Keep it up and let us know if you ever need another writer, I'm sure a number of us (myself included, although that's not the reason for the complements) would be interested.

Thanks.

This isn't real is it? I thought it was just some kind of prank until I read this:

Dennis McCauley is the Political Editor for the Entertainment Consumers Association (www.theeca.com), tracks the political side of video games at GamePolitics.com and writes about games for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Opinions expressed in The Political Game are his own. Reach him at

Jesus Christ, some of the commenters here are so f'ing stupid now. Whatever happened to the many-starred commenters of yore? There's no more ebopirs (did I remember that correctly?) to live up to anymore, so everyone's as dumb as they want to be.

Loved the article, Dennis. Very funny and made its point very clearly.

I guess noobs that talk in net speak all day get offended by it when they read articles??
WTF?!?!?!

this is a skit with the article written in net speak because the points he covers are kinda boring and standard and doing it in net speak spices things up.

Dennis great article keep hammering away at all of them :X
