- Milon's Secret Castle (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Though it's not much of a secret castle if the title gives it away, it certainly is one that adheres to video game tradition. Expect to rescue a princess and several valuable items -- musical instruments in this case -- within its recesses.
- ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Video game tradition is given the boot here, with amusingly mismatched aliens, Toejam & Earl, saving their planet by ridding it of a human scourge.
- Dead Moon (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): Alright, now we're back to protecting the Earth from alien invasion. It's why we have side-scrolling shooters like this one.
- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Everyone's favorite pointy-eared protagonist returns to Hyrule in the Virtual Console's 100th release. Aid Link in his battle against the forces of evil, Zelda's newfound narcoleptic tendencies and an endless wave of best Zelda ever / worst Zelda ever controversy.
Three titles join Zelda II's Virtual Console celebration

After approximately 325 different and generally inappropriate permutations, we finally concluded that the above and dreadfully straightforward headline would be best suited to conveying the arrival of today's four new old Virtual Console games. "Zelda Moons Midori on Funkotron" was certainly a viable option, but it simply inspired the wrong sort of mental image. We actually want you to envision these four games arriving on the Wii's Virtual Console service at 9AM PST today:

I'm pretty certain that the TG-16 and Dreamcast were designed with the sole purpose of doling out shmups in concentrated doses less the universe implode from sheer shmup-lessness.

"Spelling Correction"
Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure.
Boogerman doesn’t really HAVE superpowers, but he has many, many abilities. He can fart, burp, spit loogies and flick Boogers at his enemies. He claims that “You don’t need superpowers when you’ve got a busy body.”
"Snot a fight you can win! You’d better give up!"
"It’s a good thing I won! I have to go to the bathroom!"
lol great times

Good call, megaStryke. I was wondering why the VC was getting a new shmup for TG-16 every week.

That's a good thing, though, because it feeds my bizarre shmup addiction.
Since Zelda II is one of the games I've been waiting for since I bought my Wii, I'll surely be buyingthis tonight.
Although if we're talking about booger-related games...where is Earthworm Jim 2?

I say it's not the worst Zelda, or the best. The putrid CDi games lay claim to that dishonor. I totally have to get more points and buy that game.

Toe Jam and Earl was an awesome game.. well before it's time in many ways.
I think i read that Sega were planning on having these guys as their answer to Mario.. until Sonic came along as stole their limelight.
But i might have imagined that..

I played the hell out of zelda II. Solid download. I've been resisting the VC for awhile but its getting good. Although, I think they've been milking this shit too long. Hopefully the bump to four sticks and keeps going up.

You know what..while Zelda II was an alright game, despite being such a departure from all other Zelda games and I'm excited, ToeJam and Earl is what is really exciting to me, when I was younger I never really quite understood what I was doing.
Maybe now with some age I can go back and actually see what the hell I was doing when I was younger.

I saw Zelda 2 box-less at my Gamestation today for £15.99 and reminded myself on what a good deal the VC is.
Zelda 2 was no means a bad game, IMO it's one of the lesser Zelda games but compared to everything else - I'd take Zelda 2. It's like saying the DB9 is the worst Aston Martin, or the (paltry) 30gb iPod is the worst video iPod.

Ah, Milon's Secret Castle...
I must have been about 12 years old, and told my mom I wanted Castlevania... Well, at least she got a game with "Castle" in the title... heh.
In the end though, I had a lot of fun playing that game. Yeah, it was near-impossible, and I never beat it, but mostly because it took so long to get to the end, and there was no save or password system.
Ah, those were good times.

I once got to the fourth story in Milon's Secret Castle, and people still don't believe me. The game's probably the second-hardest NES game I played.
The first is still the original Ninja Gaiden.
