Yesterday the geek-turned-hero who was
shot tackling two robbers in a railway station was released from the hospital. Adam Mapleson was on his way home from work less than two weeks ago when he saw two men struggling with a security guard. When he stepped in to help, he was shot in the chest. Doctors listed him as "serious but stable" when we last reported on the situation, and some gaming forums compiled
Get Well Soon cards in response. Now that Adam is all patched up and back in the wild, he can sit down for some well-deserved gaming time.

Good for him. God damn guys deserves a medal, taking one in the chest.

This guy played one too many sessions of 50 Cent's Bullet Proof
all jokes aside, hope his recovery goes well and that he doesn't have to tackle any more baddies

Is geek-turned-hero a fair statement? Funny how some gamers tend to label themselves/other gamers now; who needs an enemy when we're all too ready to insult ourselves.

2 weeks for a gunshot to the chest, pretty quick recovery... even though i'm sure he won't be tackling any more armed robbers for a while.
this guy really deserves some sort of award.

Hmmm, i didn't hear about this story 2 weeks ago. Kinda makes you wonder if video games made him do it? Time after time of playing a good guy who continually helps people out of sticky situations.
Where's Jack when you need him? Oh that's right, he would never "blame" video games when it involves someone doing a good deed.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Adam.

Major props for the Pure Pwnage hoodie. That guy rules.

I wish him a speedy recovery as well. Some people are wonderful while a good many only care about themselves.

His intentions were good, but his actions almost got him killed and could have endangered the lives of others. Sure, his intentions were admirable, but honestly, the last thing anyone should do at a robbery is to confront the robber and I'm sure he now knows why.

I saw exactly the same article in this month's "Specticle and Glasses Wearer" magazine. Their headline was "Specticle wearer gets shot while attempting to stop a robbery".
I'm glad the guy is OK though and outta hospital.
Gamer's do good deeds everyday and they go unreported. Doctors, nurses, cops, firecrew - all do good everyday and I bet some of them are gamers too. Don't see any gaming site doing a story about them. Imagine the headlines "CS Fan OWNZZZ Malignant Tumour"
madgerald @ Jun 5th 2007 11:47AM
I did of course mean spectacles!!

Considering its Rayleigh train station in England, you wouldn't expect the robbers to have a gun. Its not like you can walk into a shop and buy one here. So he wasn't being reckless, he's a brave bloke, hope he recovers well.

@ r-deezy.
I don't think you can use the 'I wonder if games made him do it' - argument. If this was influenced by his gaming, then you might say that you also can get violent from playing video games. And we dont want that, do we :)
Still, I can't imagine what I would do in the situation. Honestly, I would most probably run and call for help. But that is just me :).
He helped another person, and that is good. For that, he deserves a nod in the right direction. As human from human. But I don't think anyone should start showering him with medals, or even try to involve video games in this.
This is just my opinion though.

ErbilT,
If you don't stand up to a robber with a gun, then anyone with a gun could intend to rob you without having too much fuss. You need to stand up against wrong doing even when the odds are against you.
PS!CHO @ Jun 5th 2007 3:00PM
So much for video games promoting violence, its starting to promote heroes! All stupidity aside, this guy deserves a medal, and a big one, a big shiny medal with lots of pointy edges and a long blue ribbon coming out the bottom, because sadly this kind of heroism doesn't happen everyday. Recover fast man, your games are waiting for you!
LordMinogue @ Jun 5th 2007 3:21PM
We need more vigilantes like this guy! Society needs to work together to control crime - not letting criminals have their way is the first step.

Out two weeks after being shot in the chest? His doctor must have had the Healing Touch. Thank god no GUILT was found.
