Happy belated birthday to (Leisure Suit) Larry Laffer
Larry Laffer, better known as Leisure Suit Larry, turned 20 years old yesterday. Sadly, like many child stars, he didn't have a huge celebration. It merely passed with a statement by his father, Al Lowe, in his daily joke.Lowe writes, "Today is the 20th anniversary of Leisure Suit Larry. On June 4th, 1987, LSL1: Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards shipped ...to the lowest sales of any game in the history of Sierra! I assumed I had just wasted six months of my life and immediately started work on Police Quest I with Jim Walls and Greg Rowland. We worked long hours while, unknown to me, each month Larry's sales doubled. A year later, Larry was in the Top 10 and soon after that was number one. So lift a glass with me to my dear departed friend, Mr. Laffer! Together we had one hell of a decade of great times."
Although Mr. Laffer will be appearing in some upcoming mobile games, it'll be hard to recapture his glory days where he taught young boys around the country lessons about the opposite sex. Oh well, although Lowe thinks Larry is dead, we do hope that one day -- and soon -- a Leisure Suit Larry game will return the series to raunchy greatness.

The first one was pretty funny... haven't played any others. Not exactly one of the great gaming icons. Others would disagree though.

I know I'm not the only one who had more fun answering the trivia questions at the beginning of the game to "prove" your age than I did actually playing the game.

I played and beat one of the point/click Leisure Suit Larry's (*i don't remember which one*)when i
was in 6th or 7th grade.. i thought they were very amusing and the "are you 18" test at the beginning was always so easy....

One of the most memorable moments I have is trying to explain to my parents that it wasn't porn.

@Mr. Shen
I had a similar moment with Leather Goddesses of Phobos, which was similar to Larry, but better written and hard as hell.

This birthday would be the perfect opportunity to finally put the Larry games on Gametap. I think it is the only major Sierra adventure series missing from their lineup.

Larry is definitely not overrated. Anybody who doesn't agree is probably some sort of jerkface.
/that felt good

Larry seems underrated and obscure(as in not a lot of ppl know of him) in the land of video games to me and this is comming from a Larry Fan.
Happy birthday Laffer and hopefully you would find that perfect someone after all those years.

haha I remember playing this when I was 10. I miss those types of games that Larry was.
Same with Police/King/Space quest. Space quest was pretty funny too. I had the CD collections of all the games and someone stole them in high school. Gold Rush was awesome too. Typing while trying to move your guy around was great

I remember getting in trouble for playing the 1st one in my HS computer lab. Wow, I'm old.
