Starting on July 13th the History Channel will be allowing online gamers to recreate historical dogfights in different aerial theaters around the globe. Kuma Games is producing at least 11 downloadable "gameisodes" (that coined phrase makes us shudder) that you can download during new episodes of the upcoming season of Dogfights.
According to Kuma Games CEO Keith Halper, "There will be a variety of planes to fly, starting with WWII planes like Zeros and Hellcats. We receive the script for each show from the History Channel, and we evaluate it to make an accurate but fun gaming experience that's true to the show."
The network certainly loves gamers, having previously used footage from Brothers in Arms during a show of the same name. We're fine with the tie-in games for tv shows, in fact it could really liven up things like According to Jim. Is that still on the air? Also, just imagine a How William Shatner Changed The World "gameisode."
We're now declaring a moratorium on the word "gameisode."

Yeah "gameisodes" is pretty bad
I also like the whole "accurate but fun" quote. As if accurate is intrinsically unfun.
Players will be electing to play just as japanese pilots, just to avoid the 3 hour "accurate" debriefing after each mission

I never get the point of these things. I watched that TV series that had footage of Rome: Total War because I was really excited about the game and I wanted a preview of what the battles would be like. It doesn't really make it any more interesting that I can see 3d planes... the 3d part in games is just a compromise that is forced onto us for it to be possible to actually control things. If we had the technology, many games (except to be stylistically different, like cartoons or 'shrek'-type things) would just look like video imagery.

I'm not just bragging, but it's interesting trivia, I know the guy who does the animations for the show Dogfights. He's pretty cool, and has an exclusivity on the animations. He pretty much does all the work at home, then puts it on the flash drive, drives over to the production center and drops it off, then goes home. Pretty cool guy.

@Aberu
That is really cool, that guy does a great job! I especially enjoyed the "Death of the Japanesse Navy" episode, great effects!
