World Cyber Games tournament in New York

We overheard that one of the most entertaining parts of the event was the coach for team MoB competing in Gears of War. Their "coach," Godfath3r, was apparently intense and entertaining to watch; when they played, the whole place would gather around and watch the show as Godfath3r paced back and forth behind his players, shouting at his team to help out -- and at the other team to trash talk. Some highlights include:
- "You CANNOT Handle THIS!" - 'We are the Number One team in this place."
- "He is hurt finish him, kill him, kill him, kill him!!!!"
- "Get SOME!!," said at the end of the match and followed by, "Go shake their hands!"

The games of choice for these events are getting worse by the year. Dead or Alive? Need for Speed?... this is not competitive gaming.

Sheesh, Dead or Alive, Gears of War, and Need for Speed... this sounds like the Special Olympics of video gaming.
Where's the Starcraft, Counter-Strike, Warcraft 3 and other top-tier competitive games? You know, the games that actually involve skill and have many highly skilled players?

Where's the $20,000 prize for best Wario Ware Inc. player?
I'm normally not a wii-basher. (I really want one!).
But this is THE BARRIER between Wii and everything else. Skill-based competetive multiplayer games with millions of people honing their skills to play against each other online and in tournaments. This kind of tourney used to be just mostly pc games, but then we find out that when you hook the original XBOX into that ethernet port in your dormroom ... Voila systemlink ... 16 player multiplayer halo:ce
... and here we are now.

Looks boring! Yay!

Wait, so 68 players competed in 9 games? So an average of 8 players per game?
Some "open" tournament...

"Anybody got the video? Screaming video gamers are always amusing. Especially when they're being serious."
