I always thought it would be cool to work at a place like Valve where it could be a LAN party at certain times of the day.

""the only employees who might have trouble in this type of environment are the ones that can't regulate themselves." And those people are probably playing Minesweeper all day anyway." or reading Joystiq :)

Awesome! That's OUR breakroom in the photo! If anyone's wondering, the driving game is Cruisin' World, the pinball machine is Lord of the Rings, the blue arcade cab is a new Pac-man cab, and the on tucked away in the corner is a neo-geo with: Samurai Showdown 2, Bubble Bobble, Metal Slug... and World Heroes? can't remember what the 4th game is.

But honestly, the game room is the least of the perks around Edmunds, one of the coolest companies I've ever worked for.

I've been trying to sell my office on the idea for a hammock room (i.e. a room full of hammocks) for the better part of seven years. Apparently, they consider things like "space" and "productivity" to be important. What about my nap time?

If I were to build an office for a video game company from the ground up, it would be equipped with the following:

1) Beds. If you're going to have people spend the night there working, have the decency to provide them a place to crash so they don't have to drive home.

2) Showers. So when they do inevitably crash, they don't look like crap in the morning, and they don't reek. (Also useful for QA folk.)

3) A weight room. I'd want there to be at least a couple treadmills and some freeweights, so the people wouldn't have to worry about not having any time to get to the gym, and would be able to keep themselves in a modicum of shape. Also ties in well with the shower.

4) The finest break room known to man. It'd have a keycard lock, so when you went in, it'd be able to track your break. But I would stock that with all the newest games and consoles.

"And those people are probably playing Minesweeper all day anyway."

I saw that the retail release of Defcon touts a 'one button hide feature' for playing at work. So now we have options.
