ESRB: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 rated E for Xbox 360

While not quite as exciting as the news that Lara's latest adventure is coming to the Xbox 360 (in some capacity), the ESRB also let another cat out of its poorly guarded bag today. Well, it's more like a pair of cats. Actually, it's a hedgehog and a two-tailed fox but they're both coming out of that bag with the revelation that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is destined for not only the Wii's Virtual Console service -- no big surprise there -- but the Xbox 360 as well. We're speculating that the title's co-op gameplay and split-screen races were enough to convince the fat cats at Microsoft that Sonic 2 deserved a plot inside Xbox Live Arcade's walled garden.

[Update 6/10/07: Good thing we snagged that screen grab of the ESRB's listing because, whaddya know, the Xbox 360 is no longer listed as an upcoming platform. Thanks for the note, SSUK!]

Would of liked STH insteaed of STH2 however I will pick this up anyways as it sure beats the new 3D versions.

No, I think that proves you have good taste in platformers. ;)

I wonder if it hits XBLA if it will get the same graphic and audio enhancements several other classics have gotten. I'd buy it again if it had new graphics and remixed music. Otherwise, no thanks, I'll just play the Collection on my PS2.

Sonic & Knuckles pwns all (especially Sonic3 & Knuckles lock-on)

although this game certainly laid the groundwork for it, but as for purchases, you can get them all for GC OR Xbox for about $15 used, so i wouldn't

I know what your saying however if it has enhanced graphics plus the added bonus of achievements and live then this will be a must for all Sonic fans.

My hands still have the memory of that Atari joystick, my bithday is Jan 1st and I remember getting it for xmas and birthday combined.. great days where has all the time gone.

This was the first game I owned and its soundtrack still tugs my heartstrings. I might get it on VC, but will be pissed if Xbox360 gets some nice souped up version.

Maybe in this Sonic game the load times will be down to 3 minutes tops.

as I said, I beat/clocked it. On the Atari it would get to level 99 or whatever and would go back to level 1 again so yes me and my brother would play it all the time back in the golden days, anyways the 360 is like the Atari for me again as I get to play my brother and whoop him all over again on live.

@ #1 - No. Not at all.

I'll be picking up the 360 version because there will most likely be online multiplayer and (maybe) minor graphical upgrades.

I already have this on two compilations- Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP and Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the OG Xbox- so I'm not interested. I want Daytona USA, Daytona USA 2, Sega Rally 1 and 2, and Virtua Racing on XBLA, then I'll be interested. Make it happen, Sega.

Yeah, just buy the Sonic Mega Collection Plus for Xbox OG for a few freakin bucks off the internet. It has almost all the good Sonic games, all the 2d ones, anyway.

Cool, but now I don't see the point of ever buying the VC version. Is Sega going to be doing this with all their Genesis titles? Also, I doubt they'll redo the sound/gfx.

Sweet, if its coming to the 360 maybe Sonic 3 and Knuckles will follow suit. Also if they change anything I think they should leave the graphics alone and just put in Wood Zone and Hidden Palace Zone. For those of you who don't know there were 5-6 levels that were cut from the final version. The two that were ever close to being complete were Hidden Palace Zone which was very diffrent from the S3&K one and Wood Zone.

First game I owned ever with Achievements? They've got me.

I really can't choose a favorite of those first 3 or 4 Sonic games... I've gone through phases of each. Currently the original is my favorite which is also coming to XBLA... man XBLA been doing pretty good lately, I hope it continues to pick up steam.

I doubt it'll have achievements; it'll just be an emulation, not a rewrite of the code or anything.

This has got to be be the best of the sonic Genesis games (with Sonic3 right behind it). To this day, I still can't beat the damn last boss.

The best is the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Some of the levels in the Sonic 3 portion of the game piss me off (Carnival Night), but it's mostly pretty good. The bosses are creative, the levels are colorful, and the music is upbeat and fun. Since the two of them were originally intended to be one game anyway, I hope that Sega releases them as one on VC and XBLA, because if they sell them separately then some of the story is lost and it just isn't the same.

Sonic 2 comes in a close second place as my favorite, but it's just too short, and Sonic didn't move as quickly as in 3&Knuckles.
