Game Music Central is now selling copies of "Best of the Best: A Tribute To Game Music", which is a collection of classic game song, covered by new artists. The composers might not be names that you know that well, with the exception of Video Games Live composer Tommy Tallarico, but they've composed the music for World of Warcraft, SOCOM II, EverQuest, God Of War I & II, Myst III & IV, Jade Empire, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hitman, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2, Shrek the Third and King Kong. Not too shabby of a musical resume.
It remains to be seen how useful the website itself will be, but it has the chance to become a great place to go when you find yourself wondering "What song was in that level with all the lava?" For now, visit the site and get a preview of the songs on the CD. Our money is on that cover of the Mario Bros. theme song for being the "most annoying song of 2007," but the year is only halfway over. Who knows what our ears might be treated to in the coming months.

I think it is hilarious that track 1 is not by Tommy Tallerico, it is an ocremix of one of his songs. Sure, Tallerico wrote the original, but he didn't even credit the remixer and he's making money off this bloody thing.

Wasn't Tallerico fairly heavily involved in the OCR community a few years back? I mean I've pretty much only lurked on the forums there for years, only making a couple posts, but didn't he get Baranowsky's permission to put that song on some kind of Earthworm Jim remix soundtrack that never got released? Obviously this isn't the same thing, but surely he would get his permission for this, too.

They don't seem to give any credit to the original composers, just to the cover artists. Weird. And I can't find the music from the lava level on this page.

As long as it's not retarded young adults singing about NES games in an attempt to try and act cool and oldschool, I'm always happy.
God, do I want those people to get hurt.
Stupid fucking scenesters.
...and hipsters too, who all think it's "hip" to like NES and Atari games, or whatever.
No, they don't like SNES. That's a little too evolved for their tiny stupid brains.
They can shut up and go play with their macs and ipods, or whatever.

You totally stole that image from the weekly geek. I'm telling!
Wait, I stole the image first. I just cropped it. Maybe I should tell on myself?!

Here is the image from my website, if anyone wants to see the full artwork =] It's by my friend Leo for my Game Music 4 All site. Notice the "GM4A" that was conveniently cropped off.

Anyway, I love joystiq, and love that they used our image. good times!
Weekly Geek took it too, but that's alright, since they were talking about my site.

Sorry GenoBoost! I didn't crop that out on purpose, I only had limited space and wanted to focus on Mario and the boombox more. I kept the initials in the bottom right corner. Thanks for posting the full image and link.

No problem Kevin Kelly, any even slight mention or reference to my site on Joystiq is an honor =]
I'm sure my friend Leo will really get a kick out of the post as well! =]
