Microsoft's group product manager David Hufford recently spoke with GI about his company's new approach toward the family segment of the market. More importantly, though, were his thoughts on a proper price point for capturing that section of the market. Hufford believes "the sweet spot of the market is really 199 bucks."Nintendo has done a good job with the Wii's price point, he adds, explaining "When Mom walks into the store and sees she can get a console with a game for USD 250, she sees it as a USD 300 value. They've done a good job." And he's right, as Nintendo's constant domination in the U.S. month after month after month (after month) is proof of that.
And, we hate to bring up the past, but do you still think Nintendo's newest console should've debuted with a $199 USD price tag?
