Don't be surprised if heated debates over Smash Bros. Brawl character supremacy take on a terrifying new dimension now that it's been confirmed on the official blog that all Wii-compatible remotes will work with the game. "Sure, Kirby can beat Meta Knight if everybody's using GameCube controllers," the clerk at your local EB Games might say, "but you don't even understand Kirby until you've turned the Wiimote on its side, that's his spinach."
If you're puzzling over what does what exactly, keep wondering -- director Masahiro Sakurai is staying mum. He does admit though that he prefers the GameCube controller because he "like[s] the feel of that powerful rumble." ... Wow, we didn't mean to end the post all creepy, sorry, we'll change the subject. So, how are you planning on playing?
[Thanks to everybody who sent this in.]

This opens up the possibility of multiplayer greater than 4P. Nice! (think Bomberman '93; it can be done, it has been done)

My guess is that people with the GC controller will start to dominate people using the Wiimote/Nunchuk.
It would be very interesting if it turned out the other way though.
Wiimote on side = very uncomfortable (specially for a fighting game)

"I could see the Wiimote+nunchuck control scheme working pretty well. i think my thumb would get too sore from the wiimote side control,"
Wimp! We called that 'Button Thumb' back in the day!
Kids these days! And your fancy-shmancy analog sticks and girly thumbs!

Yeah could you imagine 8 player (4 GC, 4 Remote/CC)!? If only the screen could encompass that many players, it gets bad enough with four people move around at the same time.

@Don Connery #46
Actually Don you're wrong. If YOU really played Smash (or at least read the manual) YOU would know that you do not need a jump button to play Smash (and never did). Pressing up on the control pad/stick works just as well (and in my opinion better). It's one less thing your right hand has to do. You should try it actually, you may actually like it better than using the jump buttons.
Funny thing is in the orginal Smash for a long time I didn't know you could jump using the C buttons. So I'm not calling you stupid or anything just wrong.

Almack64 (#54), I think your opinion is wrong -- Jumping with the X or Y button is exponentially better than jumping with the Control Stick. This is an OBJECTIVE fact.

The d-pad isn't that great on the Wiimote, so I'll stick to using the Gamecube controller. Besides, I don't want to waste anymore batteries.

@ Joshua
Explain to me how it is an "OBJECTIVE fact" that x/y jumping is better and not a sunjective opinion. To be honest I really want to know. I mean does the controller register it quicker or something? Or are you trying to say that it's easier?
If its the former (or some similar argument) then you're right and you can shut me up with some proof. However if it is that later (or some similar argument) then that's just more subjectivity.

@58: Yeah, jumping with X or Y really is superior, I must agree. You simply can not wavedash properly with the analog stick as your jump. In fact, they need to REMOVE the jump function from the analog stick so that up-tilt can be more readily used instead of requiring a great deal of finesse. That's the only control flaw in Melee - using jump with up-analog. It basically stripped a move away from all but the more dedicated players.
And oh yeah, GCN controller for me, no doubt. Show me the online functionality and I'm sold. Now if I can just ebay a club nintendo Mario controller for less than my firstborn...

X/Y jumping is definitely a hell of a lot better than using the stick.

@29 - Let em use the c-stick, but most everyone I've played with considers it cheap. You can still do direction + A w/o charging. I don't consider it a loss if I lose to someone who uses it.

Anyone who says they'll be using the GC controller exclusivly, I say to you please be open minded.
Even if its only once, I'd say everyone should at least try the other controls, you may be surprised.

Actually, you could get online functionality in SSBM, (just search Google) my friend said it worked pretty well.

I know I'll end up playing with GC eventually, but I'll try the WNC for convienience.
@ SoulBlade.
The c-stick is in no way a n00b tactic. There's nothing nooby about it and it's just a john that inexperienced players use. the c-stick makes aerials so much easier and more flexible and allows human-finger-lag free smashes. You can also use it for things like FF-ing Uairs, retreating Fairs and advancing Bairs. And it also allows you to DI and move frely at the same time.

Yeah Im all for getting rid of up on the analog stick making you jump. Wouldnt mind having the c-stick disabled either, no that doesnt mean I'm "inexperienced", just that I learned how to play right since the N64 version :p

Remember, you have to smash up to jump, which I believe is a lot harder than simply pressing X or Y.
And I'm not sure you can take advantage of Peach's floating ability if you use the control stick. She floats if you hold X or Y, and presumably also if you hold the control stick up, but guess under which circumstances it's easier to move left or right...
Note: I am speaking of SSBM; it is possible that Peach might not be back for SSBB, and that even if she is back, she might not have the floating ability.
