Not to be nitpicky, as I enjoy the PSP as much as the next gamer on the go, but the resolution on iTunes videos is nearly triple what the UMD resolution is. 480x272 vs. 640x480? Sure it is great to have a widescreen, and the screen far surpasses a tiny iPod LCD for watching anything longer than a few minutes, but we're talking 130k pixels vs. 307k pixels.

To Flash!:
Actually, UMD movies are encoded in DVD resolution: 720x480. The problem? The PSP screen doesn't support that. Of course, if they're making a PSP with video-out...

To G Lampa:
It's not a real image. It's something we ran earlier, but it isn't indicative of a real product.

It would be really tiresome to read 60 reasons, back to back all in one sitting.

I dont understand the boring "nintendo vs playstation" war... I mean, I see everyone in a "defensive" situation as if the way others think would change what YOU think...
I own a DsLite because I think its simple and funny, more ideas over graphics and effects quality... but I know there are people that likes the oposite and thats perfect!
I dont see a reason to attack the other... "Vive y deja vivir" (?)

PD: My english sucks.... I know...

You can play music and movies on a DS with a simple flash cart or memory card converter. It's just way better on PSP for movies because of the better monitor.

Wow, smart way to turn the UMD situation into a positive one!

Now let's see some more creativity! I know you have it all planned!

This is the joke section of this list of reasons right? Are you serious, UMD movies are a reason to get the PSP? At $5 they are still not worth it because the PSP is the only thing you can play them on. How many times are you going to buy a movie? Buy the DVD then turn around and buy the same movie as a UMD that has less extras?

And then to top it off you have Video 9 in the same section. Save your money folks, don't waste it. Buy the DVD, rip it, and then convert it with Video 9.

Maybe some people don't like waiting a few hours to convert a DVD...

I think the UMD Price is great, I have some UMD's but I still by far have more movies, tvshows encoded for my PSP. Still the UMD is still better as the picture still ends up being clearer and has the movie and bonus features. Someone posted you can get a card for your DS but the resolution and size are so very crappy and the speakers and sound is inferior by far to the PSP as well. By the time you buy this card for your DS you will have spent more on the DS than the PSP with at least a gig of memory. The PSP MP3 menu works great and if it the crappiest you have ever seen as told by another poster then you obviously have not seen many interfaces or are easily confused.

CronicZ00 If you go by this logic then you on average spend 30-50 dollars for 1 gigbit "thats 125 megabytes" so if you wanted to say get up to a 1 GIGABYTE then you would have to spend more than it would cost to get a PSP.

If you wanted a DS lite with a flashcart (which you CAN'T just go out and buy anywhere in town as you can with the PSP and it's memory, and if you wanted a full GIGABYTE then for the same money you could get a PSP and 4-8 GIGABYTES. The shoe is on the other foot when you try to say the DS is so easy to just get a flashcart and watch a movie or mp3 on as when you buy this flashcart for the DS it doesnt just play the MP3's or the Movies as it does on the PSP. It is so laughable to compare the DS to the PSP in this catagory! Bottom line you will spend much more money on a the DS and flashcart hack then you would the PSP, and the picture and sound would be extremely poor on ths DS. The DS Lite was made for simple games and nothing more.

I have always maintained, ever since I heard about the original pricing plan for the UMD movies, that it would fail, and that if they had priced each UMD movie at around five bucks each, maybe it would do okay.

The way I see it, at $5 per movie, people who don't normally buy DVDs might consider the UMD (and having UMDs that cost the same as a DVD but without all the special features just doesn't make sense).

I guess they finally see the logic, about two years too late. It could have been so much better.

For people who normally buy DVDs, five bucks for a movie is still too much. Like Tracy says, there's very little incentive to buy them--just rip the DVD you bought and encode. If Sony really wanted to push PSP sales, they'd include UMD versions of their movies in the DVDs people buy.

To PSP-Rising

"The DS Lite was made for simple games and nothing more."

You mean made simply for games, right? Cause there are some pretty hardcore games on the DS, it's just that most developers don't have the skill to use the DS to it's fullest.
