Hey Team Bungie - It'd be nice to not have to press that button all the time. I say make open chat a multiplayer option. PS - Thanks for making viedo games fun again. - Zak

Truthfully the addition of this feature(toggling on or off team chat so you don't have to use the d-pad) is something that will push me to buy or not buy this game. It is a major annoyance to have found you have been talking a while but the team chat has cut out.

I am completely on the fence about this game after giving up on Halo 2's multiplayer, with the mass and frequent in-game quitting, team chat button and no toggle for crouch. Halo 3 fixes one of these issues with the toggle crouch option and I don't understand why we can't have an option for the voice chat as well.

With games like Shadowrun and Gears where teamwork is important I can't stand a game where I can't efficiently communicate with my team members.

It sounds harsh but I won't buy Halo 3 if there is no open chat, I loved Halo 1 and was meh about Halo 2 and it won't bother me a bit if I don't spend 60 bucks on a game with such annoyances. Shadowrun will tide me over til Unreal 3.

So please bungie, for your own good and if you want my money add open chat in, or atleast make it optional like crouch.

+1 to open chat. I actually picked up - and play - Shadowrun instead of Halo 2 at this time only because of open chat.

I hate the chat system in Halo 3, I don't use my headset too often so I'd have liked to see a n SMS type system too. Either way...go open chat...go!

Great game Bungie, but open chat should be default. I feel vulnerable when I let go of the left stick just to chat.

I ended up finding myself using my right thumb to push the d-pad so i could still move. It wasn't too big a stretch. The problem with muting annoying teammates is when they actually say something valuable I wouldn't hear it.

I really don't mind the push to talk system. It took a lil while to get used to, but I don't mind it. I was doing the same thing before with halo 2, muting and unmuting the headset. I had to flick it on then flick it back off with my right thumb. This was 1 push so I didn't mind it.

Crap, no wonder my teammates couldn't hear me lol. I forgot about this and was just talking away during the round. Push-to-talk is so out-dated when there is an easy to reach mute switch on your headset

many people forget to press the d-pad in the beta, and when you have a nice setup, and you're sitting 10 feet away from your center channel, you can't hear your teammate's proximity voice over the sound of the gunfire and explosions. Then you gotta press the D-pad and say "Mike! Use the D-Pad.. PLEASE!!! I can't hear... oh what was that you were saying? Watch out for the trip-mine? Thanks, but you were 2 seconds too late.. I couldn't hear you over the explosion... However, now that I'm dead, I can hear you just fine.. Please use your D-pad... Thanks!"

Open Voice chat to everyone on your team. Yes

If you want to trash talk then press the d-pad button.

This would help no end also remove the stupid noise it makes, frankly its just 'crap'.

Thanks all who play the final game.

Absolutely NO to OPEN Chat

Push TO Talk works so much better - With Prox voice you have the option of just talking to the guy in the warthog with you with no button press, but if you need to let your whole team know something you open up a channel. Takes a second to get used to, and the screech noise they used in the beta was bloody awful but overall its MUCH better than open chat

Come on people, its not like you have to hold the button down - Seriously, I do NOT want to hear you talking to your cat in the middle of my flag run

Its ridiculous that there is only a push-to-talk in Haloe 3, especially being a 360 title.

Add it or I don't buy!

Yes, open chat as we see in other games on the 360 open chat is working out really well and it makes for better teamwork if we don't have to keep pushing a button to tell them things.

All too common scenario: you see a large group of enemies in a corner so you push to talk to let your team know where you are. That last enemy you didn't see comes up behind you while you aren't moving and sticks you. :(

I will do anything for open chat for Halo 3. You know what? I will pay an extra ten fucking dollars for it. That's how much I hate the d=pad. You like money, right Microsoft? You like the green stuff? I will pay ten dollars for an open mic system! Why is it so hard for people to understand that the push to talk is as out of date as N64 and the PlaystationOne?

The chat system in Halo 2 was perfect, in Halo 3 it was just as good. The ability to communicate to a team member and just say "take cover" or something like that without the rest of your team hearing you and wondering who you are talking to is great. I don't think it should change, its a revolutionary chat system and allows you to talk to exactly who you need to. Stop crying about "omg I have to move my hand ALL the way down there and press the D-pad!!!" I use my right thumb and it doesn't effect my gameplay, I don't mind it one bit. IT NEEDS TO STAY. No one minded the way the Halo 2 system worked, why are you all crying about it now?

Right on - ditch the D-Pad. Open chat works in all 360 games - I like it in Gears and Call of Duty 3. The only thing i would like to see is private party chat - currently private chat is limited to two people - I would like to see at least 5 people being able to chat privately - this would eradicate the annoyance factor for others when you and a few mates are catching up.
