Since we know that Time is not like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction, you'll no doubt appreciate this reminder that Prince of Persia Classic -- the re-imagining of the platforming classic -- is hitting Xbox Live Arcade this week as evidenced by this handy media alert. While Ubisoft's earlier confirmation didn't mention how many Billy Bucks the Prince would demand, Microsoft had no such compunction clearly stating the title will cost a not unsuspected 800 MS Points ($10). Oh, and the hardest achievement? Finishing the game without dying. If you've played Prince of Persia, you oughta know better than to even try. If you haven't, let me tell you a tale like none you have ever heard ...

i wouldn't waste my money on it because every time i play the old one i want to smash my keyboard into tiny bits out of pure frustration and rage. however, i really like what they've done with the updated graphics.

doesn't the original take an hour to beat? I remember playing this on an apple back in the 80's. =)

I would pay $10 for a revamped edition of this game. It's a classic, and with new graphics and audio, it's choice nostalgia, man.

I don't know if $10 is too high. Yeah sure it takes an hour to beat the game. What's not obvious is that it will take you dozens of hours of retrying to beat this game whose chronological ordering of events is only one hour long.
I must admit, the XBLA games are becoming so beautiful that when the games begin to weigh in at 256 MB+ combined with the 360's compression technologies, you are going to see some amazing, and by that, I mean AMAZING games on the classic remakes and indie fronts. LOL, you may start even seeing some PSP ports (UMD's should fit). I'm love'n live at the moment.

Part of what makes this game hard are the shit controls... which is not a good reason for it to be hard.

I've tried this game on DOSBox a few times, and its equally challenging offspring, "POP2".
The problem was always the imprecise little stutter-step the Prince would do at the end of every forward move. You'd stutter your princely butt right off a ledge into a cluster of spikes, yeouch.
If they can add the intuitive precision of the modern POP games this would be great, if not maybe a bit too easy & short. It certainly looks amazing.
I love 2D games enhanced with 3D goodness and smoothness. This is what Sonic should have always done.
