America's Army exclusive to Xbox 360
America's Army: True Soldier will only be invading US-based Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. In an interview with IGN, creative director Randy Greenback of Red Storm Entertainment explained the decision came down to familiarity and market share."First and foremost our experience level on the 360 is much higher, having gone through the development of GRAW and GRAW2 multiplayer," he said. "The second factor is that the installed base is much larger, which translates to a greater opportunity for a wider audience to experience the game."
True Soldier will use the GRAW2 engine but will remain in the first-person view. The game allows for 16-player online co-op over eight missions as well as a Competitive Training mode, where you can choose from 1 of 3 target ranges for a 16-player match to see who can hit the most targets. "CT is also a great place for Clans to hang out and get some practice in before a big match," he said.

Is this game like the Army commercials where you drop food from a plane? What's with the guns? I thought the Army just fed people. :P
hvnlysoldr @ Jun 12th 2007 1:38PM
Eat lead. I mean depleted Uranium shells.
OrganicShadow @ Jun 12th 2007 1:45PM
So where does he say it's only going to 360? I just see him saying they have good experience with 360.
C'mon, this is America's Army. They're going to put it on every platform under the sun eventually if it means 5 more people signing up for suicide....I mean "serving" in Iraq.....I mean Iran...I mean Korea....
Hirsbrunner @ Jun 12th 2007 1:45PM
A war game on the Xbox 360!?!
MaX PL and the 360 r4pe Tr4iN @ Jun 12th 2007 1:48PM
16 player co-op is pretty sick. But ive hated army games since cod2.
Doc @ Jun 12th 2007 1:48PM
using the GRAW 2 engine....so that means it's going to lag like crazy and have a bunch of exploits or glitches in the game then..great another peice of trash
Anam @ Jun 12th 2007 1:49PM
But if they only put in on the 360, it won't sell well in Japan... oh, wait.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 12th 2007 1:50PM
Another FPS for the 360? Wow... thats... mmm... innovation??
Phranctoast @ Jun 12th 2007 2:03PM
The AA games were great on the PC. Once there were good dedicated servers set up that is. Im sure it will be fun on the the 360 as well.
Matthew Walsh @ Jun 12th 2007 2:04PM
Bonus points for team killing? J/K!! Though I think it might sell well in just the one country...
Jake @ Jun 12th 2007 2:06PM
Fernando, get a life dude. What do you expect an Army game to be a cooking sim with waggle controls? I'm pretty sure you're the one that calls every non-Wii game complete uninventive crap. Of course it is going to be a shooter, dumbass. As for innovation, I'd expect it to be a lot like their last game there Sherlock. It will be sorta okay but kinda suck. One positive is that it will likely sell very cheap. The PC one was free, wasn't it?
Sorry to be so harsh on fernie, it is just that he is so incredibly lame with every post people have to remind him/her what a tool they are once in a while.
Phranctoast @ Jun 12th 2007 2:19PM
wow jake. I didnt realize people still paid any attention to Fernandos posts anymore. I see the name and dont even bother to read. Hes just mad that 9 out of the next 10 games he will be purchasing for the wii has mario in the title or somehow in the game.
WebPimp @ Jun 12th 2007 2:23PM
Wasn't(isn't) AA just a recruiting tool?
Kompressor @ Jun 12th 2007 2:30PM
Im always curious to see what the sony trolls can come up with when yet another 360 exclusive is announced
"another war game on the 360? "another fps?"
you would think the trolls would take whatever game they could get their hands on for the ps3 seeing as there are 4 games available
fludblud @ Jun 12th 2007 2:33PM
America's Army for the American console.
sounds like a good enough reason, increases propaganda value
Tommy Thompson @ Jun 12th 2007 2:35PM
This game balances out Prince of Persia which is obviously a recruiting device for Al-qaeda.
Frankenstein Black @ Jun 12th 2007 2:38PM
Is this game really based on how the suits are running the army these days? No dragon Skin Armor (better tech), No up Armored Hummers (side quests to find your own scrap metal), No Strykers (better tech), Families scraping coin together to send what should be provided. Oh, and getting back home (if your lucky) after losing a leg to a moldy cockroach infested hospital room. I think not. These things are needed if they want to make this more “realistic”! Oh, and your toon (and any progress) should be wiped the minute it’s killed. That’s it, done! The game locks you out, can’t be played again, and recorded the console’s ID. Why? Because the reality of life and war is that you DON’T GET A SECOND CHANCE AFTER DEATH!
Phranctoast @ Jun 12th 2007 2:39PM
14@kompressor.
the only troll i see here is you.
ADR @ Jun 12th 2007 3:28PM
Question?
Is the game going to be free, because AA has always been free. I don't think there is any reason to pay for a game which the development costs have already been paid for out of taxes.
AA has always strived to be the most realistic combat game. I wouldn't say a console is the best for that.
mccomber @ Jun 12th 2007 3:03PM
"you would think the trolls would take whatever game they could get their hands on for the ps3 seeing as there are 4 games available"
We're up to 4 now? Last I'd heard from the Commentator News Team here on Joystiq, we only had 2...
Crono @ Jun 12th 2007 3:48PM
You anti army people need to get a life.
Or move to san francisco, where they hate the armed forces just as much as you do.
Nobody forced anybody into the army, and nobody who signed up in the last 5 years can claim they didn't know they were going to war in Iraq. Its their choice if the want to "throw their lives away" or as I prefer to say, make the ultimate sacrifice for God and Country.
None of you have half the conviction or courage as the average army recruit. Now shut the hell up, and get back to talking about how crappy a game this is.
Adam @ Jun 12th 2007 3:50PM
@OrganicShadow
Please keep your war views to yourself, joining the army has risks just like every other job.
Anyways, will this game be free? Its always been free on the PC right.
Jonah Falcon @ Jun 12th 2007 3:53PM
Hey, if you want to make Croatia's Army or France's Army or Royal Navy or Belgium's Army or Switzerland's Army, feel free.
Kenny Chesney @ Jun 12th 2007 3:57PM
I agree with Adam. Every job has its risk. I know so many young men that were taking down by snipers while flipping hamburgers at the local McDonald's.
Hirsbrunner @ Jun 12th 2007 3:58PM
@Kompressor
Look honey, if you're gonna quote me, at least use what I wrote.
And second, I don't own a PS3, pork chop. Not until a price drop anyway.
Rob Accomando @ Jun 12th 2007 4:02PM
Free on the pc, $60 on the Xbox360? Pass
Lord_Magus @ Jun 12th 2007 4:12PM
Another 'realistic' war game for the 360, this time imaginatively titled "America's Army"...? Geez, I used to think war games were cool too, but then I turned 12.
PS: crono, you are an idiot.
Crono @ Jun 12th 2007 4:20PM
Am I? Explain it to me.
*grabs popcorn*
JonnyBoy2U @ Jun 12th 2007 4:53PM
Yeah crono you are. Just because most of us aren't stupid enough to sign up for the US Army which is involved in a dumb and idiotic war in Iraq doesn't mean we lack the courage or conviction. IF there was a real reason to fight and IF my country truly needed me to pick up a sword and a gun I wouldn't hesistate a second to do so.
But no we're fighting for oil under the guise of a "war on terror" that our dumbass president has flamed since Day One in the White House.
As for this game I don't think I'll be getting it. But I'm sure it will do fine. And Fernando you really need to get a life. You sony trolls just can't seem to get it. People love to shoot shit. So geuss what? Microsoft is providing it for them. I'd be more worried about the piece of shit 3 and its lack of decent games both now and in the future. Because besides FF theres no other game that I can see making everyone else go out and buy a 600 dollar machine that just happens to play videogames.
ChuckSteak0331 @ Jun 12th 2007 5:04PM
Yeah Crono, you are a tool. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps as a Machinegunner (Iraq invasion tour), and I still think your an idiot. I agree with the others.
AppleiPhone @ Jun 12th 2007 5:06PM
I'm pretty sure that the Apple iPhone will solve the problem in the middle east.
At least that is what the guy at the Cingular store keeps telling me.
Crono @ Jun 12th 2007 5:12PM
"But no we're fighting for oil under the guise of a "war on terror" that our dumbass president has flamed since Day One in the White House."
And how much of that oil have we seen?
Anybody who believes that we went into Iraq for Oil is the real idiot with no reasoning skills. I never said it wasn't smart to stay out of the army right now, I just said it takes real courage and conviction to sign up knowing, KNOWING, you were going to iraq and had a real possibility of dying there. You can be disillusioned all you like, but the fact is the US presence in iraq is the only thing keeping it stable.
The war has been botched, there are very few left who will argue that, but the goal of a peaceful democratic Iraq are still there. And the only reason we are staying there is because if we left, the nation would fall into even further chaos, civil war, and possibly genocide.
I don't like that we're stuck in Iraq either, but we really are stuck, with the only ethical way out being victory. To pull out our troops would condemn all our supporters, create a free training zone for international terrorists, and almost assuredly cause all out civil war.
If you were the president, would you leave, knowing that your actions, though saving the lives of hundreds of american soldiers in the short term, would cost the lives of hundreds of thousands more Iraqi's, with the probablity of genocide? If you say yes, then you're a bastard. Like I said before, I'm not to happy with how the president has conducted this war. I'm actually pretty pissed. But, like it or not, we have no alternative.
AppleiPhone @ Jun 12th 2007 5:17PM
You guys need to chill out. The iPhone is coming.
It was sent to earth to die for your sins and text messages.
Superfood @ Jun 12th 2007 5:20PM
I feel a profound pity for those who succeed at America's Army. Those who manage to score very well in the game receive tons of recruitment information.
Now 360 owners are going to have to pay in order to receive recruitment propaganda.
And Crono, substitute "conviction and courage" with "profound ignorance and sociopathic tendancies" and I'm right with you there, buddy.
Crono @ Jun 12th 2007 5:25PM
So you're saying it takes "profound ignorance and sociopathic tendancy's" to join the military?
I guess we're way past supporting our troops. Thats almost as bad as John Kerry saying that if you don't do well in school you'll end up stuck in Iraq.
That there's real patriotism.
AppleiPhone @ Jun 12th 2007 5:32PM
For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten iPhone so that whoever believes in it might not perish but have everlasting life.
Crono @ Jun 12th 2007 5:35PM
Oh, one more thing Johnny boy. The president didn't start the war on terror. We were the ones attacked, 9 months after Bush entered office.
So no, he wasn't "flaming the war on terror from day one".
Triforceowner @ Jun 12th 2007 5:42PM
There's a poem that goes something like this: "And when he gets to Heaven, To Saint Peter he will tell: 'Another soldier reporting Sir, I’ve served my time in hell.'" I don't care what war you served in, but if you died for someone's freedom, or if you died for what you believed was right, you are truly the greatest of human beings.
Jonathan Tran @ Jun 12th 2007 5:45PM
wewt
the term "xbots" now has even deeper meaning as xbox becomes the first propganda-friendly console!
Delive @ Jun 12th 2007 6:08PM
This just in. "We will not release this on the PS3 because there is no way an army game will compete with SOCOM. On the 360, the main competition is HALO and this is different, so we stand a chance to get the 5 people who don't like HALO to buy this."
aylera @ Jun 12th 2007 6:23PM
If this game comes out at anything but $10, I'll laugh.
Seriously, it's free. You do not have to pay for it. The army is giving it away.
Rubang B @ Jun 12th 2007 7:04PM
My favorite posts ever are the ones where people claim that they're fighting for my freedom, as if Iraq has ever been a threat to the U.S. or had anything to do with Al-Qaeda. If we pulled out right now, or somehow magically "won" right now, my freedom would be unaffected either way.
P.S. LOL, another shooter on the HaloBox 360.
shivr @ Jun 12th 2007 8:26PM
I was going to add a sarcastic comment about the genre diversity of games on the 360, but I see that base has been well covered.
And what is this, youtube? Whats with all the iraq war comments? :p
hmm @ Jun 12th 2007 9:27PM
