We've been wondering where Resistance: Fall of Man developer Insomniac was in this whole Church of England vs. Sony kerfuffle. Turns out they are keeping their head down and letting Sony Europe handle it. GI.biz received a statement from Sony America's spokesmeister Dave Karraker and he said, "SCEE is handling all the communications from there on the matter and is dealing directly with the authorities in Manchester ... We are viewing this as a conversation between the Church and SCEE and don't plan on making any further announcements regarding it."
Insomniac is making themselves quite a bit of controversy six months after the game's release (well, three for England). Not bad for a company that made its name on cutesy violent epics like Spyro and Ratchet and Clank. How will this all end? Who knows, but the drama moving a couple PS3 units can do nothing but help Sony at this point, especially if the NPD numbers come in as badly as predicted. Go on controversy, help sell consoles!

This will do nothing to move PS3's. Who gives a crap if they used a church in a game, it's not going to make anyone drop $600.00.
But God save Insomniac, they are all going to hell!
(hopefully they will take their crappy Sony butt-kissing company with them). Weeeeee =)

Allow me to interfect fanboy rhetoric. This is merely a marketing scheme by SONY attempting to pull up their pitiful sales on the PS3.

@3: Hrr... You didn't read the bloody article, did you? England has only had the game THREE MONTHS, not six... But even then, it's 3 months... Suppose the church isn't the fastest thing... or people just aren't buying the damn thing (And no, 1 million consoles shipped to stores is useless unless people are buying them.)

Apparently the church only found out about this after seeing clips on youtube on 8th June

I quit believing in Catholisism and left the religion after playing Resistance. That shooting in the church scene totally made me not believe in Christ anymore. I got about 30 other people to quit, too. Makes sense.

@ 1:
Of course people who know all about the PS3 aren't going to buy it because of this; but it's simply a fact that free attention is good except in the very worst of circumstances.
Random Brit Guy, who was only vaguely aware that there was a "new PlayStation" out there, hears this story and decides to see what game all the fuss is about. So he goes to the store and looks, and thinks it looks pretty awesome. Then he notices that he has to buy the "new PlayStation" if he wants to play it. Then he sees the cost and probably doesn't. But if a million Random Brit Guys do that, then a lot of them are going to have the money to burn.
(Almost) any publicity is good publicity.

ssuk, it doesn't matter how long England has had it, as the Church of England is an international faith (sometimes called episcopalian in the states).
