well, he's supposed to be a relatively fugly guy. He has years of combat scarring and has been induced with genetic modifications since he was seven. That looks about right.

also, this is a spartan. It's not the Master Chief, per se.

I cannot imagine that they would spend the time rendering his face in real time if he wasn't going to remove the helmet at some point in the game. Personally I bet that this is is partly because revealing the character underneath the helmet would make things much easier for the HALO MOVIE!

That has been a sticking point for the film production, that the main character would always be masked (although V for vendetta pulled it off). If the chief's face is revealed in the game it would be much easier to sign a major hollywood actor to portray him in the film.

I would think the only real reason behind something like this would be if the visor had some form of transparency that becomes apparent at some point, like when you get lasered or blown up in some way.

If they can come up with a good way how to do it and a good reason to do it thats implicit to the story, they should.

Otherwise leave the stoic masked figure the way he is.

I must say... Bungie has loaded Halo with soo many little easter eggs and references that my head has been spinning just thinking about the genius coming out of that little group.

Ironically though, half of the Halo fans haven't even begun to understand all of the references within Halo's Storyline.

I can explain what I mean if you just ask. (there's alot of them)

Why they would construct a face underneath the spartan helmet I don't know...

There can only be 3 possible reasons.

1) Halo 3 is going to reveal the face of the Master Chief

2) Bungie simply intended this to be an Easter Egg for fans.

3) There could possibly be a generic player model for a face. So that when you're customizing armor in multiplayer there will be an option of having no helmet/visor.

Something tells me, that this face will be revealed. Why? would Bungie purposely go out of their way to create this face... and if it's just a character model used to place armor over, WHY would they place a Scar on his face?

All I know is... I've read all the books, played all the games, made all the connections, analyzed all the facts. This guy looks like the Master chief described in the book and exactly what I pictured in my head...

- White pale almost Albino-like skin (due to long periods with no sunlight within the armor)

- Piercing eyes (all the carotene that was injected to give him 1/10th a humans reflex time)

- A scar on his left eye (caused from early combat training as a teenager)

- Little or no hair (due to the lack of oxygen getting to his scalp from proximity of his helmet)

I'm excited...

Fontez, you astound me, you really do.

I really hope you still have a firm grip on what's real, and what's not. You had me a little worried with that post.

If I remeber correctly. At the end of Halo:CE. Masterchief was flying away from the destroyed Halo/Autumn. He asks Cortana if anyonelse survived and she said no. Then she says save the engines we'll need them later. Then Chief removes his helmet and you see some brown hair before the camera moves to a space shot and external of the fighter.

Plus in the ESPN tv spot the Chief puts his helmet on after being blown up, we never see the face, but the helmet was off.

They have alluded to the helmet coming off, maybe at some point the chief is knocked out and his helmet is removed within Halo 3, or maybe he does a victory dance when you defeat the covenant and drinks beer out of the helmet.

I always thought the character model for the Chief was just the armour, why would they model a dude and then dress him in armour, it would seem simpler in Halo and Halo 2 to have just modeled the armour. Maybe this is a new feature for MP but hopefully it is in Halo 3 at some point.

you know what CCC? it seems... that not only are you an amazing rapper by rhyming Halo with Gaylo... BUT you spend your time surfing X-box 360 and specifically (in this case) Halo 3 Forums waiting for the newest Info release just to analyze something you don't even enjoy nor do you understand...

AND THEN you take the initiative by going out of your way to read all of our comments JUST to add in your very own 2 cents and (might I add once again) excellent freestyling skills.

You know what you just read? the definition of the word LOSER !!

Please just go to school and stop playing WoW and jacking off while waiting for your pizza pops to finish in the microwave. And for god sakes CLEAN YOU ROOM !! lol

I swear people are getting dumber and dumber by the second !

Thank you thank you ! I'll be here all week !

This game is so well crafted. Everything Bungie does they do for a reason, so just have a little faith guys I believe this final game will blow away the competition! It isn't even fair to other games really.

It looks like that face is looking at the back of the helmet to me. And, I think Chief would lose the badass appeal if he took off the helmet, unless Bungie did some major facial modeling.

I'd be all right with him removing his helmet, but at the very end. It would be a fitting end to the series.

Who's to say if that's Spartan 117 aka John aka Master Chief?

Could just be a generic Spartan face model.

Place holder for my face, a la vision camera! The "face" is way too wide and the eyes are set way too far apart to be *gasp*, MC's face. Get a grip! All that trouble to add a face in multiplayer. Silly rabbit, camera tricks are for kids.

i would be kindof dissapointed if they showed his face. He is somewhat of an icon to the gaming world and i think it should stay a mystery what he looks like. Then again,if they did it right, it could be a good end to teh series. I just don't want to have my view of MC to change thats all.

They could also do somthing like MC got into a huge fight at the end of the game with a gigantic brute. The brute tackles him and cracks MC's visor just so that you can see M-cheif's eyes. they look like he is an alien of somesort because of the alterations to his body. You see his eyes glare in anger and he hits the brute in the face with his gun knocking him off of MC and onto the floor. MC puts some shots into his head and ends the fight with disgust. great cut-scene right there guys

woaw, you can see the face alot better!

I kinda liked the way they never showed you V's face in V for Vendetta. ALthough it would be nice to see the chief's face when he is about to die at the end. Don't even argue, you know it's gunna happen!

His face does seem to be exactly how the book describes him, but I have my doubts as to what exactly this means. people assume that this means he'll take his helmet off, but that doesn't make any sense. Why would bungie bother rendering a whole nother head under the helmet? if they did you would be able to do the same mongoose trick to see the rest of his face. The "face" is most likely just another panel under the visor. Unless master chief's visor gets removed or destroyed somehow, you'll never be able to see this section in normal gameplay. Even if bungie were going to reveal master chief's face, they would just use another model in a cinematic or whathavenot. As for the dress up doll thing, that wouldn't make sense for the same reason. It's an uneconomic use of polygons. If I had to guess what this means, well, it's just something bungie does. Like the nudity scandal from the pc version of halo 2, or the megg. It'll likely be gone by the retail version of the game.
