Rumor Reporter's Bruce Kelly, who previously outed Warhawk as a downloadable PSN title (though it's arriving on Blu-ray disc as well), asserts that his informants hold details that "contradict" those provided last week, but conveniently notes, "we still don't have enough to confirm anything as fact." These potential non-facts are offered as counter-points to those previously aired: The new PSP will still have an LCD screen (one letter different from the previously mentioned LED screen), it will not have any "big speed increases", will feature a slot-loading UMD drive and will "likely" feature only 4GB of on-board storage.
Though it sounds more like a me-too take on the continuing rumors as opposed to a contradicting one, we still like to envision this as an epic battle between two musketeers using elongated balloons as swords. There's a lot of squeaking and squealing going on, but the most grievous injury can only be suffered by one's credibility. If the improved PSP is indeed on the way, we're sure to be given some sharper implements once Min-E3 is in full swing.

"No big speed increases" doesn't mean NO speed increases at all. It just means that the speed increases won't be huge.
Also, we still need to know what the official deal on internal storage is going to be, and weather or not we can still use memory stick. I don't have a problem using the memory sticks, and since I already bought them I would like to be able to keep using them.
Now that I look the article over again though, it seems like Rumorang is trying to use OLD PSP redesign rumors, and claim that they are correct and these "new" rumors are wrong. The first PSP redesign rumors stated 4gb not 8gb, a slot loading UMD drive, and nothing about speed increases. The new rumors, compared to these, seem more believable than the "old" rumors, which Rumorang is trying to spin as semi-official.

You are stupid. How are you going to say a rumor is wrong? Idiot.

The metaphor in the last paragraph about the balloon-wielding, dueling musketeers was half-past hilarious.
Your well-written, thoughtful, and consistently witty posts are half of what I look forward to whenever I visit this site.
Thank you, and please continue writing.

Nope, Sony doesn't copy everything Nintendo does :P

1) It'd be REALLY stupid at this point to drop the UMD drive in a PSP. What are people gonna do with the UMD games and movies they already own? Not buy a new PSP, that's what. And why would Sony want to ignore the possible double-dipping from existing PSP owners (many DS owners did when the superior DS Lite was released, so I'm sure many PSP owners would splurge for a new PSP if it proved to be better than the original).
2) HDDs are bad for small portables, mm'kay? Ask most people who have an HDD-based iPod about how quickly they died from moving too much. Yeah. HDDs aren't prone to shake-induced damage. Flash memory is better for the purpose (even though it does mean less storage for more money)
@Grog:
This is just a redesign of the existing PSP. Not a new system entirely.

You are so right. That is why UMD has been such a huge success and everything the DS offers has been such a huge failure.

How is the UMD format being "pushed" on us? The same way that every single proprietary format Nintendo uses is too? Kinda like that?
Even though Memory Stick is a Sony product, it's still made by other manufacturers, is a somewhat common storage medium, and is cheap and easy to find in large capacities. Sony is ACTUALLY being more open with the PSP and PS3 than they ever have with PS1/PS2.
-USB instead of proprietary Sony cable like cell phones
-Wide range of audio/video output types
-3(4 to be technical) different external storage types on front of PS3
-Bluetooth controllers
-Memory stick storage for PSP
-Wifi instead of some Sony-made wireless protocol
-Gigabit instead of some Sony-made proprietary cable
-Any 2.5" SATA150 hard drive will work in the PS3 without voiding warranty
-Do I need to go over their list of compatible audio formats for PSP and PS3?
Sure, the video support is a bit lacking at the moment, but MPG/MPEG/MP4 isn't a bad start. It's a lot better than MP4 by itself, and with TVersity and Nero MediaHome it's a moot point now.

Wouldn't they just shoot each other with their, y'know, muskets?
