They had another video over on the Bungie Forums yesterday if anyone is interested...apparently you could make out his face pretty well.

(I didn't look--I want to wait until I finish the fight)

Geo, You mean Duke?? lol

On Topic:

I SOO spotted this (his face) weeks ago! There was a still of the helmet and I can swear blind that I saw those same eyes behind the visor.

Wish I had the link. Could Joystiq possibly check through my previous Halo 3-related comments?

My bet is that he's some sort of genetically-modified Uuber-warrior. Why else would he be able to flip warthogs and such?

I'm actually really hoping that Master Chief turns out to be the hero from Marathon. I've seen rumors of people who are really into the Marathon mythos and say that there are enough parallels that it could work out. Thus Halo 1, 2 and 3 would essentially be Marathon IV, V, and VI, respectively.

Uh...yeah...that's exactly what he is. Guess you haven't read the novels explaning the spartan program.

As for the face:
1. It's nearly impossible to make out.
2. Why would Bungie render a face behind the mirrored visor? Wasted effort much?
3. Technically it's a Spartan's face and not necessarily Master Chief's face.
4. Why do we care so much?

We already know what John looks like from the books.

Even so, that face looks creepy as hell. For them to render the face under the helmet, they're either planning on taking off the helmet in the storyline, leaving the option to have no helmet (or a more transparent faceplate) when you Create-A-Spartan, or it's some kind of easter egg.

My bet is on the one of (or both of) the first two.

Master Chief is NOT IN MULTIPLAYER. Master Chief is who you play as during the campaign. When you play multiplayer you are not him.

If you really were to remove Master Chief's helmet, all you would find is a third fist.

I hope when you finish the game on any lower difficulty the screen fades to black just as Chief is removing his helmet and a message comes on that says "try finishing on a higher difficulty to see the alternate ending." When you finish Halo it on Legendary, Chief slowly removes his helmet, but just as you are about to see his face the screen fades to black and it goes to credits and a funky Halo remix and tells you to wait for Halo IV to finish seeing his face. Then Halo IV comes out and it is just a 15 second FMV that shows Chief taking off his helmet to reveal Pauly Shore, and that's it.

Yeah, that would be so awesome. Bungie should so hire me.

There's nothing special under that helmet, the helmet is what is special.

Did I really need almost 4 minutes to look at that face. Seriously, you get the point after about 25 seconds. The remaining 3 1/2 minutes I sat there waiting for something to happen; something that never does in fact happen. Take my advice and move along. There's nothing more to see here.

That would explain the smallness of the helmet included in the legendary edition: it's a replica of his actual head.

Actually he is something special..considering the reason they are called Spartans is because they were trained from like 5 years old, plus they were gentically altered later on...the suit just enhances those traits

Although it is very possible they just used Master Cheif's character for multiplayer making the face a possibility...

I wouldn't hold my breath.

BUT the fact the face to me looks like he took a plasma grenade to the face is interesting. Not to mention a Darth Vader/Anakin facial reference would be the only way to make Master Cheif even cooler.

I remember how I reacted to seeing Vader with his Helmet off. Master Cheif may do the same thing.

First, Master Chief's real name is John, he was the 117th SPARTAN II member (and 1 of 10-20 left)he IS a genetically modified Uber warrior, that having been said Halo takes place in the 26th century, whereas Marathon takes place in the 28th century (almost the 29th) therefore Halo could NOT be a sequel to marathon...it could be a prequel, however.

Cortana is in both series however it is very unlikely that they are one in the same because in the halo story Cortana is a "Smart" AI (meaning that she can learn, and adapt independently), a top-of-the-line AI with a life expectancy (yes they have life expectancies) of 7 years (approx). Assuming that Halo 3 takes place RIGHT after halo 2 ends, (2552) there is almost no chance that cortana can last 200+ years (unless they write it in for halo 3)

Based on the books, the Chief is supposed to be incredibly freaking pale underneath his suit, mostly because he's been in there for so long, so the pasty grey look makes a lot of sense. Also, if Bungee actually did put the face mesh underneath the visor, why would they up and change it for multiplayer? Just because you aren't actually playing as the Chief, they aren't going to make an entirely new model to represent a Spartan. Anyways, MC looks badass if that actually is his face. Dig the scarring next to this left eye.
